Gay Romance

Her POV-

It’s my besfriend’s wedding day. The thing is, she’s marrying my crush. And she knew. She knew I liked him, and yet, she proposed. When do girls ever propose? Well, he never liked me anyways, so what does it matter? I’m still really hurt she would do that to me, but maybe it just was never meant to be. At least she invited me. Though I don't know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. So yes, I’m sitting here getting ready with the bride-to-be right by my side. She wanted me with her while she gets ready.

Why?

I dont know.

She emerges from her little dressing room in her dress, and…Wow, it’s beautiful. Today is the first time I’m seeing it, since she only took her mother to go dress shopping with her.

“How’s it look, Emily? Do you like it?”

I snap out of my thoughts and respond, “It looks amazing, Jessica. It really suits you.”

But she looks at me and scowls, “Are you okay Emily? You look…miserable.”

“Don’t worry about me Jess, it’s your big day and I’m really happy for you.”

She shrugs it off and continues to admire how she looks in her dress.

Suddenly, all of her other friends rush in chattering and stressing.

“Jessica!” One of them exclaims.

“One of the pictures you took with Jake got leaked!”

Jake? Who the hell is that?

Another one comments, “It’s a picture of you two kissing!”

Kissing? Another man, while she’s about to get freaking married? I can’t believe this.

“Wait, hold on a second. Who is Jake?”

Her other friends stare at her.

“You never told her, Jess?!!” One whispers.

And the worst part, Jessica shakes her head no.

“Jessica, what did you not tell me?”

She purses her lips together. “OKay fine! Stop pressuring me! I’m cheating on Alex!”

I gasp and stare at her in shock. How could she ever cheat on someone like Alex? He’s literally everything a girl could ever possibly want! But I’m more hurt and shocked that she didn’t tell me.

“First of all, why? Why didn’t you tell me?”

She turns red, angry. “Because I didn’t trust you not to snitch! You’re always the goodie-two-shoes. So no, I didn’t tell you.”

I pause.

She didn’t trust me?

“And second,” she continues, “I’m cheating on him because he’s just too serious. I only want the fun stuff. But unfortunatly for me, I didn’t realize that until I proposed. And I didn’t want to feel bad and break up with him, so I’m cheating on him.”

I’m at a loss for words. Literally anything and everything I have to say right now would send her yelling and hollering at me.

“Well,” I start, “I hope you’re happy. And I hope you live the life that you’ve always wanted. Unfortunately, something has come up, and I have to leave. Goodbye, Jessica.”

With that, I walk out. But as I’m walking out, I almost run into someone. I mumble a quiet sorry, but then freeze when I realize who it is.

Alex.

He’s holding his phone with a pale expression. He knows. And he saw the picture.

“Emily, did you know about this?”

He extends his hand and shows me the picture.

“No, Alex. I didn’t find out until right now, I was actually on my way to tell you but…looks like you found out yourself.”

He nods his head slowly.

“I just…why would she do this to me? All I have ever been to her is nice, caring, and respectful. I thought about our future, I bought her whatever she wanted, I did everything for her.”

Oh yeah, and did I mention, he’s rich.

“Listen Alex, I’m really sorry and you deserve so much better. Go find yourself a better girl, this one is hopeless. She’s only in it for fun. But when she realized you were serious about it, she decided to go find herself another man. Again, I’m really sorry, and I hope you find yourself a better woman.”

I start to walk away, but he grabs my wrist.

“A better woman? I think you would be that better one.”

I pause.

“What? Me? Why? I-I, you don’t even know me.”

“But I do, Emily. I noticed the way you hid your pain when Jessica announced our engagement. I noticed how you hide all of your pain with a smile, and never argue. I know that if this wedding really did happen, you would be smiling and laughing and taking your loss, all for Jessica. Because you just care like that, you’re kind like that, and that’s what makes you special. To me, and to Jessica, even if she didn’t tell you.”

His words break something in me, I never thought I’d hear those words from him. Ever.

“You-you really mean that, Alex?”

“Yes, I do. And I-I know that the last time you had anything close to a partner, he cheated and abused you. But I don’t want that for you. I want you to be happy and in a healthy relationship. I-I´ll even buy you whatever you want.

I shake my head, “Alex, I don't want your money. I don’t need it.”

He frowns, "Then what do you want?”

I shrug my shoulders because… I don’t know.

“Honestly, just a happy relationship. That’s all I need.”

But something felt…off. Like, something about him. He seemed okay with it. Why, though?

“Let me love you then, Emily. I can give you a happy relationship.”

See, I would accept, but again, something feels off. My brow furrows in confusion.

He’s really willing to give it all up and move on? Already?

That’s when I notice it.

A bracelet.

With another man’s name on it.

“Oh. My. God. Alex, be completely honest with me, are you…gay?”

That catches him off guard, but he simply sags his shoulders and nods.

“I’m afraid you found out. I just wanted a girlfriend, so people wouldn’t tease or laugh at me. But even the girls don’t love me.”

So, my intuition over the past five years was right. He was gay.
