Alaina's Secret

Today was the day I was going to tell my parents a secret that I have kept from them since last summer. My name is Alaina I'm 16 years old & I am currently a sophomore in Maplewood high school which is located in Minnesota. I've been here my whole life but once I graduate from high school I'm thinking about pursuing an acting career in California it's something I've always dreamed of doing since a kid; Acting! Anyway let's go back to the part when I was admitting a secret to my parents. In Alaina's home, her parents & she are sitting in the living room Alaina's parents looking anxious about what Alaina might be telling them & Alaina with sweating palms with her face being the color of a ripe tomato. Nervously Alaina says to her worried parents " There's something I need to tell you guys please don't hate me after this" Alaina's mother responds "Honey we could never hate you no matter what you tell us at this moment we will always love you right honey?" (Alaina's mother turns to her husband which is Alaina's Father) He responds "Yes never be afraid to tell us anything". Alaina stands up & says "I was pregnant last summer & I was afraid to come to you guys with this god awful news because I felt like you guys wouldn't look at me as your innocent daughter anymore" Alaina's Parents' mouths drop continuing listening to Alaina's story. "I aborted it," Alaina says but then starts to breakdown and cry. "Baby? You were pregnant? By whom?" Alaina's mother said anxious "By a boy I was dating in school he's name is Callum he's from Longbeach, California his family moved to Minnesota last year in January," Alaina says as the tears continue to fall down her face. Alaina's Father gets up from the couch & smacks her across the face Alaina falls to the floor. Alaina's Mother grabs him & picks Alaina off the floor "Gerald! How could you do this to our daughter!" Alaina's mother Rain shouts at Gerald. "Because she was doing things she had no business doing at the age she is!" Gerald then grabs his coat & slams the front door after he exits their home. Alaina runs upstairs to her room burying her face into the pillows as she cries the pillow becomes drenched.

Alaina's mother knocks on her bedroom door " Alaina please open the door I want to talk to you please" Alaina shouts at her bedroom door "You are ashamed of me just like dad!" " I am not ashamed of you I still want to talk about what you just told your father & me" Her mother shouts back. Alaina dreadfully gets up from her bed & opens the door for her mother.

Next Alaina & her mother are sitting on the edge of Alaina's bed discussing the secret that Alaina had kept from her parents. "Why did you abort it? I could've helped you take care of it" Raina says to Alaina. "Mom I was scared & plus Callum told me to he said that there's no way that he & I could raise a baby at just 16 years old! He said we're practically kids ourselves!" " his right you guys are kids but when you do adult things you have to handle the situation like an adult & getting rid of the kid was not the mature thing to do I had you at 17 & I never thought of aborting you," Alaina's mother says while wiping her tears away. "Your Father is just angry right now him & I didn't even know that you were dating let alone having sex!" Alaina nods her head & says "I know the whole thing was wrong of me which is why I kept it a secret but it was killing me every single day not telling you guys that I was pregnant I couldn't take the guilt any longer so I had to confess!" Alaina's mother hugs her & whispers in her ear "No more keeping secrets okay? For now, on you tell us everything & when I mean everything I mean EVERYTHING!" Alaina nods her head yes as her mother kisses her forehead. (Alaina Narrating)

The Next morning I had felt relieved I had finally told my parents a dark secret that I have never thought I would be able to tell. As I was heading out the door for school I saw my mother in the kitchen drinking her morning tea which was Ginger & honey. I had kissed her goodbye & began to walk to school. My father must've still been upset because he's usually downstairs in the kitchen with my mother having breakfast but he was a no show I hope to see him after school so I can have a heartfelt conversation with him about yesterday he has every right to be upset about what I've done but I at least want to know if I'm still his number 1 girl!

As I enter the 8th period which is American History I see Callum we latch eyes but no communication at all. I wanted to let him know that I finally told my parents about the pregnancy, Callum & I are no longer dating we broke it off about 3 weeks ago well he broke it off he felt it was the right thing to do when it came between us. I didn't necessarily agree but he didn't seem interested in what I had to say so I left it at that. When the 8th period was over I waited outside of the class for Callum to exit when he finally exited the classroom I approached him & said: " Hey Callum how have you been?" Callum with an uninterested expression on his face answered " uh hi I've been fine" " you cut your hair it was way longer 3 weeks ago" Callum interrupts her & says " Look what do you want I'm ready to go home I'm tired" Alaina becoming teary-eyed says " I told my parents about the pregnancy they weren't too happy about it. I mean I wouldn't expect them to be but I just thought I should tell you because I was always so jittery about it when you & I were together you know?". " I'm glad you told them they deserved to know the truth" Callum then walks away from Alaina leaving her all alone by the Classroom.

Alaina whispers to herself "yea I miss you too see you tomorrow".

I never thought that Callum would speak to me that way I know that he & I are no longer together but it's only been 3 weeks since we've broken up I thought he would have a little sympathy but I guess not.

While walking home from school Alaina looks down at her phone sees a text from her dad saying " when you arrive home from school I would like to have a conversation with you". Alaina replies "ok" then puts her phone back in her back pocket. When Alaina arrives home her father is sitting in the living room in a cozy chair near the fireplace Alaina approaches him & says " Hey dad you said you wanted to talk?" Alaina's father looks up & says " yea sit down" Alaina sits on the couch which is about 2 feet away from her where her father is sitting she then places her backpack next to her. Her father began to say "Listen Alaina I apologize for getting physical with you yesterday it was just a natural reaction I couldn't believe that you were pregnant! Let alone dating are you even still dating this guy?" Alaina responds " No we broke up 3 weeks ago it just wasn't working out anymore" Alaina's father Gerald shakes his head & says " see I was a young boy once & most of the boys my age would talk about how they would just screw around with the girls at our school they didnt really love those girls they just loved screwing them!" Alaina interrupts her father & says " Were you in love with mom when you were young? " I was in love with your mother yes I was nothing like those idiots that I had went to high school with I actually cared about girls feelings but.... what I am trying to say to you is I don't think Callum actually loved you he only wanted your innocence & once he took it he left like most young boys do". Alaina began to cry & says " Oh daddy I thought he loved me I think it was because of the pregnancy...I think the pregnancy scared him off I guess the thought of being a father was horrifying to him". Alaina's father gets up from his chair & sits on the same couch as Alaina & begins to hug her " I'm not angry at you maybe upset but although I expected more from you you will always be my daughter & I will always love you, Alaina Screw Callum! He is not the only young boy out there in the world you will find someone or I should say the right one will find you, you are a kid you shouldn't be heartbroken you should be more concerned about your future that's what matters, & another thing if Callum wasn't ready to take care of his responsibilities then he is not the guy for you" Alaina looks up at her father & smiles "Thank you, daddy".

I'm glad that my father & I are talking again like old times I must admit I didn't like the feeling of my dad not liking him. He was right it was time for me to let go of the weight of guilt that I have been holding on my heart since last summer! I made a huge mistake that I can't fix I just need to live my life & understand that this will not be my only mistake in life! I will make plenty of mistakes while living I just need to learn from them & move on with life.

My parents wanted to know who Callum was so they called up to my school & asked my principal to have a parent meeting with Callums parents. When they told me what they were doing about Callum I was devastated! I wanted to move on & forget about Callum but although my parents knew my secret they still wanted to know the kid who got their daughter pregnant. So Monday morning I was in the principal's office with my parents waiting for Callum & his parents to arrive when all of a sudden principal Palmer received a call from Callum's parents telling him that they will no longer be attending the parent meeting that my parents had arranged. My parents were angry they didn't understand why Callum & his parents declined the meeting. My parents then waved goodbye & told me to have a good rest of the day at school. During the 8th period, I saw Callum & I approached him while he was sitting at his desk " why did your parents decline the parent meeting? " Callum with a confused look on his face answered " What are you talking about?" " you didn't know about the meeting? Alaina said while whispering. " what meeting look class is about to end in 5 mins we'll talk after" Callum then puts his earbuds in his ear while Alaina exit the class waiting for him to exit. Callum exit the classroom & approaches her " So what the fuck were you talking about?" Alaina responds " My parents wanted to have a meeting with your parents with principal palmer about us two" Callum looks confused then says" what for? You & were just doing what all teenagers do experience sex it's just that we weren't careful enough" " I know" Alaina says softly. " Look it doesn't matter anymore the baby is gone so what is your parent freaking out about? They should just put you on the pill & move on you're growing you're not their little girl anymore" Callum says while laughing. " you think this is funny....wow I can't believe I never saw how much of an asshole you are" Alaina says while walking away but as she walks away Callum shouts at her " I bet you didn't tell your parents the Real truth you probably just blamed it all on me huh?" Alaina walks back to Callum & says " what are you talking about?" Callum laughs & says " That I wanted the baby & you didn't! You didn't even tell me that you were getting an abortion you just put it upon yourself to make that decision for me" Alaina says while laughing " you would've been an unfit father anyways look at you.....you can't even have a conversation without joking" Callum with a serious look on his face " Oh shut up you don't know what kind of father I would've been because you didn't even give me a chance to try you just killed our baby! How did you even go without your parent's consent!"

" I signed my parent's names," Alaina says deviously. As Callum is about to walk away he says " you are so cruel! I want nothing to do with you. This is our last conversation nothing more to talk about" He walks away while putting his earbuds in. Callum looks down on his phone & pressed the record button so it can stop recording " Her parents deserve to hear the real truth" Callum whispers that to himself as he walks down the hall.

Alaina's Parents Are in the kitchen making dinner when all of a sudden Alaina enters home her parents greet her Alaina sits down at the kitchen table while watching her parents cook supper. " Oh, a Voicemail, " Alaina's mother Rain says as she presses the voicemail button on the house phone in the living room. " I bet you didn't even tell your parents the real truth you probably just blamed it all on me," the voicemail says. Alaina & her father hears the voicemail from the kitchen " Who is that honey? Alaina's father asks Raine "I don't know" she then begins to turn up the volume on the phone " I wanted the baby you didn't! How did you even get your parent's consent...." I signed their names you would've been an unfit father anyway I'm glad I got rid of it & yes I lied to my parents so what! That has nothing to do with you!" Alaina's parents both look at Alaina from the living room & Alaina sits at the kitchen table with tears rolling down her face...
