I post all of the stories I write to a website named commaful if you would like to read more of my work, please don't hesitate to look me up. My username is @grammarnazi.
Every day, Damon brought joy or disappointment to many a human. He would float around waiting for someone to pull a prank, and he got to decide whether or not it would be successful. He got to sit about and watch as the whole prank unfolded into an epic fail or turn into a memory to last decades.
Damon liked his job, especially on April first.
April first was his time to shine. He got to show his true colors and hide in the shadows as he watches many pranks landing.
It was April fools day. Damon was still asleep when he got summoned to a small house. It was still dark outside as Damon watched a little boy put his brother's hand in a bucket of warm water. "Amateurs. Fail." Damon waves his hand, and with a spark, he was back in his bed. The little boy's prank had failed, and Damon could finally get some rest.
When Damon finally closes his eyes and drifts off to sleep, he gets supposed once more. He jumps awake, looking around to see if a prank was taking place anywhere. Damon looks around and sees the same little boy. Damon stands there wondering what he is doing. The fairy squints his eyes and, Damon decides to get in closer to see what was going on. His wings flutter as he makes his way down to the little boy, trying not to get spotted. Damon sees the boy messing with a rotating chair. About that time, Damon had realized what the little boy was doing. He was duct-taping an air horn to the bottom of the seat. Damon chuckles waving, his hand once more. "That is good, kid I'll give you that one." With a burst of blue glitter, Damon was gone once more. Damon lays there to think about the little boy. "He was trying too hard to pull off a successful prank. Maybe I could help him."
In the morning, Damon was woken up multiple times by amateur prankers.
One had faked cutting his sister's hair, FAIL.
Another filled Oreos with Mayonaise. I like the effort, but the smell would not have fooled anyone.
One even tried to fake a seizure. I am all about dark humor, but that was too much for even me.
One fails after another. I wish that people would learn how to be funny.
Damon was treating himself to breakfast as he gets pulled from his cereal back to the house he had started the day in. As he looks around, he locates the little boy, wondering what he was doing this time. Damon scanned the scene. The boy's mother was on the phone breakfast is cooking on the stove. Damon looks towards the table, seeing his brother sitting there, with an empty plate, a finished plate beside it.
Damon smiles as he sees the boy pouring something into the pan.
He flutters and begins his journey to the boy. Damen lands on the corner of the pan, looking at the bottle the boy was putting in. Chile flakes. Damon waves his hand with a puff of blue glitter. The prank would be a success. As Damon prepares to watch how this prank pans out, he sees the little boy look right at him.
He froze, staring back at him. The boy's eyes widened. His tiny hand reaches over and snatches the fairy off the edge of the pan. "Mom, I am going to go to my room." The mom shrugs him off, and he makes his way upstairs to his room. As Damon wiggles around in the boy's hand. "Put me down! You're going to regret this!" Damon yelled.
Once the boy was in his room, he closed and locked the door before putting Damon down on his nightstand. "Who are you?" The boy asked.
Damon looked at him before sitting down, his short legs dangling off of the nightstand.
"As in... my name?" Damon questioned. Looking at the boy, he nods his head.
"My name is Damon Sinjin Heywood." He answered.
"What are you doing here?" The child asked.
"That's a bit of a funny story." Damon deflected
"Oh yeah? Then why don't you tell me?" The boy sighed, sitting on the edge of his bed waiting, for an answer.
"I was about to," Damon said, his voice defensive.
"I work for IFF, International Fairy foundation."
The boy chuckles slightly. "Fairy? You're a fairy?" The boy can barely control his laughter.
"Yes, and I am the Director of all high jinks, horseplay, and trickery."
The boy looks at him with a puzzled look.
"Pranks, young man. I say whether or not your pranks go right or wrong."The boy nods his head. "Wow, Damon, that is a lot."
"What's your name?" Damon asked, looking at the boy, his legs swinging back and forth.
"Alister." He replied.
"And how old are you, Alister?"
"I'm 15." Alister stands up, picking up Damon. He walks over to his desk, sitting Damon down as he takes a seat in his chair.
"So this is what you do? You go around granting people's prank wishes or destroying them?"
Damon nods his head, slightly smiling as he sits back down.
"Well, when you put it like that... Yes." They both chuckle
"You're pretty okay, kid." Damon smiles.
"Do you wanna be friends?" Alister asks.
"I would be honored to be your friend. I can come to visit you every day."
They both smile at each other.
"I might disappear sometimes, that's only because I am being called for prank assistance."
Alister nods.
"Now, let's go see what happened to your brother when you put those chile flakes in his food."They both laugh. "Race ya," Damon said, standing up flapping his wings as he makes his way to the kitchen, Alister following close behind.
As Damon soared through the air, he examined his surroundings. He had a feeling in his heart. It felt almost as if the air in his lungs was the same as the air outside. He looked back to see if Alister was still behind. He couldn't quite pinpoint the feeling. He couldn't put a name to it.
Damon lands on the table, seeing Alister's brother coughing. Both Damon and Alister began to laugh, seeing how perfect the prank went. Damon closed his eyes as Alister picked him up. He could finally put a name to his emotion.
Damon was happy.
