The Lady of the Night

Written in response to: "Write about someone who can only find inspiration (or be productive) at night."

Fantasy Fiction

The Lady of the Night

I am the lady of the night

There are times I am nice

There are times I am not

There are even times I may give you a fright

But I am here to say

I'm more inspirational than my husband day

I have no influence on anyone's opinion

However I do believe that I will win you over

There’s just no intrigue in the hours of daylight

Days are all so monotonously mundane

People working hard, attending their appointments

Possibly fitting in school runs

Or doing some kind of chore

Be that at home or outdoors

Alarms disturbing sleep patterns

Dictating how you all live

Full of rules and regulations

A repeating daily basis

With not much of a change

Routinely running clockwork

Creating dismal dullness everywhere

Sure you have vacations and holidays away

But in a blink they're gone and its just another day

The weather is unpredictable

Hot sun scorching earth,

A blizzard or a grey and stormy day

No, I disagree with the light half of a 24 hour cycle

I’m the lady of the night

Nighttime is full of imagination

Holding so many mysterious secrets

Adventures with the silhouettes

Things lurking out of sight

Scary things or nice surprises

An adult encounters more surprises

A child will experience more monsters

Not because I'm mean to them

I bring fairies, unicorns and other kind mythical beings

Both the good and bad like jumping out to startle

In there effective ways

The children see reality because they still believe

Adults generally no longer do

They've ruled them out as make believe or nonsense

If they do happen to see any of my mythical beings

They believe they're seeing things or dreaming

My dreamworld is a godsend to help you through the days

A multiverse of possibilities waltzing within your mind

For in a world of dreams there are no rules

Having such infinite vision

Though some may cause horror and ordeal

It’s a fact nightmares are only that

Coming from fears within your brains

Who try to sort them as your bodies rest

But nocturnal illusions are not the only thing

The dark half of the cycle has to bring

I'm the Lady of the night

I bring you many celebrations and annual festivals

Valentines with people honouring their Love

Easter in the fresh spring nights

Chocolate eggs brought by a magical bunny

Gifted to celebrate the rebirth and fertility of mother natures land

The fun and laughter of Halloween

Fancy dress themed parties

Children out at twilight knocking on doors

Simultaneously chanting ‘Trick or Treat’

Collecting sweets till dusk

Returning home to count, share and enjoy

Smells of jacket potatoes, hotdogs and bonfire toffee

While fireworks Illuminate the dark

Smoke signals the burning of a guy

Flames, flickering sending out waves of warmth

Creating lit up toasty smiles on enlightened faces

Elevated skyward in awe of the elegance above

In the frozen frosty season

I bring along Christmas lights

Glowing up those winter evenings Flashing away revealing elegantly decorated houses

The whole month of December Carollers and advent countdown to Christmas Eve

Children sweetly sleeping tucked up in bed early

Praying they've been good enough for Santa

Lots of wonderful gifts left underneath the tree

Ready for them to open the next morning

People merrily singing ‘Auld lang syne’

Making resolutions they rarely ever stick too

People out partying, dancing, drinking, attending their favourite gigs

A quiet drink or an after work social team building experience

Celebrating milestones, birthdays and anniversaries

I'm the Lady of the night

I mostly bring the beauty of natures darkness

With my misty charcoal silvery grey clouds known to me as my eyes

I see you all you do on earth below

The allure of the sky's star based multitudes are my sparkling, glistening, delicate gems

Glinting in the blackest blanket of the sky my hair

The moon aglow with gleaming moonshine known to me as my mouth

Smiling down upon you all

Lighting up a pathway of crystalline enchantment

Undisturbed serene and peaceful surroundings

A calmness glides along within your very reach

The cooler breathable air

After a sweltering summers day

A breezy insulating hug

Wrapping itself all around you

As you sit out in the summery eve

Remnants of a bbq, sitting cooling off

A clinking of glasses at nightfall

Rumblings of chatter and laughter

Shadows of the bats flying overhead

An owl hooting in a nearby tree

Unseen but clearly heard

Crickets singing in their chirpy chorus

A rustling within the leaves

A tiny nose poking through a spiky rolled up ball

Venturing to check out the perimeter

The embers of a campfire after campers retreated to their tents

A terrifying screech echo's through the air

Like the screaming of a girl in danger

That becomes a fox's mating call in the distance

A lowly howling wolf or a rhythmic tapping of a woodpecker out in the woods

The shear visual power of a thunder storm

I create from all my anger

Lightning dancing, influencing the night sky

Brightly, beautifully across the darkest backdrop

The cold wind howling all around your home

Whistling tunes as it passes by

You tucked up warm and cosy inside listening to it's song

Couples cuddled up in loving embraces

Maybe even making love into the early hours

Sleeping soundly in the safety of each others arms

Pets cuddling up to owners Showing them their love

An upset child, who woke up with a scream

Comforted by a fathers strong arms

Or in a mothers loving embrace

Both cooing 'it was only a bad dream'

I am the Lady of the night

I protect the universe

A vast array of planets

Winking to be viewed through Astronomical binoculars or special telescopes

The unseen wormholes

Catching astronauts unawares

A shooting star zooming to earth like a fiery arrow

The earth itself spinning through that universe

While gravity holds everything in place

Across my many galaxies

It’s now time for all to sleep soundly

Sweet dreams and goodnight everyone from

The lady of the night.

Wonderful creative thoughts about the night! I enjoyed the unique poetry structure, the concepts, and the originality of this!
