Changing lives

Written in response to: "Write a story about transformation."

General

For every person life has a different meaning but for Elle life had a dazed meaning as she was not living. Happiness and peace, the feelings that Elle yearned for everyday until she finally broke free.

Elle MacPhee a was flamboyant fifteen year old girl with a mother who worked as a real estate agent and a father who worked in the police force. By looking at her bubbly personality one would think that her life was all roses and sunshine but underneath all that pretence was a broken girl. A girl that wished that the school bell signalling the end of the day never rang, a girl who wished she could go home with her friends, a girl that longed for a normal family and a girl that was constantly in fear.

As far as she can remember Elle’s parents were never a normal couple in fact their marriage was one that could be described as toxic. In general something that is toxic does not only affect the people whom it concern however it spreads and involve the innocent and unfortunately those innocent people had to be Elle and her sibling.

Every time a conversation between her parents always ended into a violent fight but one particular incident haunted her for months, that was when her father aimed his gun at her mother ready to shoot her. For split second her heart stopped and in the chaos she could hear the piercing sound of the gunshot penetrating her vivid imagination so fiercely that it caused her to maneuver herself in front of her mother and prevent a tragedy. With a great difficulty she slowly began to forget the incident as she and her sibling went to go live with her grandmother. Circumstances such as school forced her to go live her parents on her own without the emotional support of her sibling. Her life turned into a living nightmare.

Elle always slept with her one eye open, ready to stop a fight that might erupt between her parents. She secretly kept the backdoor’s burglar door slightly open just so that she could escape when need arose. Due to the constant fear she lived in, sleep evaded her like a fly when it’s about to be eliminated by humans. Through all the hardships she had to face only one thing kept her from giving up....her strive for success. Elle wanted to break out of her family limitations. She wanted to conquer the world and most importantly she did not want to be just another statistic, a girl who slept around and eventually fell pregnant due to her longing to be loved and accepted. She made sure to still perform with excellence at school.

When some people said that proclaiming your goals and positivity into the universe makes them come true, they really were not lying as Elle was one of the people who experienced it. Through all her struggles and hassles with her parents the best decision they could ever make for her was sending her to the high school of their choice and not Elle’s. When she started attending school she met her mentor, Elmarette. Every time she was in a predicament due to the situation at home this lovely teacher would always give her a reason not to give up. Elle was successfully handling her situation well and was happy and at peace despite her life’s reality however unfortunately her peace and happiness was short lived. When Elle turned eighteen an event took place which was unexpected. One stormy day after school she discovered the news that changed her live forever, she discovered the bittersweet truth. Elle’s parents made an agreement with their closest friends to marry her off to their son being none other than Head boy Don.

Donavan Martinez was the head boy at Elle’s school. Snobbish, spiteful, filthy rich, vile and evil were the only vocabulary, according to Elle, to describe him. However the one thing they both had in common was their longing for peace and happiness.

The moment Elle found out and realised that her life was about to take an unexpected turn she felt her whole world crash. The small ray of hope she had instantly vanished and the only thing she could think of was how she could take charge of her life again while trying to appease her parents as she couldn’t defy them. Elle’s parents were originally from Asia where arranged marriages were common.

When the day of her wedding approached which was fortunately after she graduated high school she felt a whirlwind of emotions. Sadness due to the fact that she is marrying at a young age, relief as she would finally escape her terrifying situation at home, disgust as she was marrying the person she disliked the most, determination as she still adamant on being successful despite the responsibilities and some sense of accomplishment as she would fulfil her sisterly duties and give her sister a better live.

After marriage she discovered that indeed life is a cycle of transformation. Her bad boy husband was after all not as bad as he wanted to portray. Elle made a shocking revelation about him which brought them closer. All the stories she used to hear at school regarding him were all just fabricated for his image. She discovered the true him, a person who is considerate, loving, kind and humble.

She once made promise to herself to never forfeit her education under any circumstances, which she kept. Elle perused her dreams and became a lawyer. After all the trials and tribulations her parents finally decided that it was best to live separately and her father moved to another country.

One thing live has taught her and is still teaching her is to never despair as there is a silver lining behind every dark cloud. Everything comes to an end and in the end Elle found her happiness and was at peace.

She felt joyful, hopeful and alive. Alive...the same feeling that prompt her to add another name to her identity. Elle Lively Martinez the girl’s whose life transformed into beauty.
