Walking over to his locker, Jisung dragged his feet wearily. He just had Algebra and he couldn’t stay awake through the lesson. He opened his locker and shove his books in, taking the books for his next lesson. ‘Ugh great, History.’ He thought. Jisung let out a sigh and closed his locker as he went on his way to History.
“Kang Jisung,” The teacher called out. He was in History class and they were taking attendance. “Here,” He mumbled sounding uninterested. Suddenly, the loud pitter latter of feet was heard and the door burst open. Jisung turned his head towards the door to see a taller black haired boy. Jisung felt his heart stop, the world around him moving in slow motion. “Sorry I’m late! I got lost,” The boy said while bowing. The teacher smiled and told him to introduce himself. “I’m Shin Dongpyo. I’m new here obviously.” Dongpyo joked. Giggles were heard from across the room, followed by an overly flirty voice saying, “So, you’re hot and funny?”. Dongpyo chuckled softly and he smiled, his eyes turning into crescents. Jisung was enamored by this handsome stranger, he was funny and he was friendly. Everything Jisung wanted to be. His heart was beating in a messy pattern, his eyes were latched on to the boy upfront. He could’ve sworn he saw Dongpyo winking at him before he took a seat at the front desk. This History lesson ended up being very, very, interesting.
The bell rang and everyone was rushing out of the classroom. Jisung gathered up his things as he was spacing out as per usual. He heard the usual conversation between hormonal teenage girls behind him while they were in line for lunch. Usually Jisung ignored their rants about their best friend ditching them and the newest nail polish color but this time, something caught his attention. “Damn, that new kid is hot.” Said one of them. “I know, Shin Dongpyo right?” Her friend replied. Even at the mention of his name, Jisung’s heart stopped beating once more. He remembered how he winked at him at History earlier. His lips instantly curled up into a smile and his cheeks were turning red. While he was in the middle of his wonderful daydream, Jisung clumsily bumped into someone and dropped his tray. “I’m sorry!” The boy exclaimed. ‘That voice...’ Jisung thought. He looked up and to his surprise, it was the boy he was dreaming about. Dongpyo smiled at him and said, “I’m Dongpyo. I think I saw you back in History.” The blondes face was burning up and he couldn’t say anything. “O-Oh yeah, I’m Jisung.” He stuttered out. Dongpyo nodded, “See you around then, Jisung.” With that, the taller boy left poor awkward Jisung alone.
He quickly took another tray of food and rushed to where his friend, Doyoung, was sitting and almost collapsed onto the cafeteria bench. “Hey, what happened?” The brunette asked, standing up in case anything happened. “Nothing.” Jisung replied almost breathless. He was still staring at Dongpyo with puppy eyes, Doyoung even tried to snap him out of it but failed. Suddenly, Jisung heard a loud twang followed by a sharp sting on his cheek. He hissed and glared at his friend. “Welcome back, Kang Jisung. The year is now 2067 and an octopus rules us.” He joked, retrieving the rubber band that he had hit Jisung with. The blonde rolled his eyes and chuckled, “Very funny.” Doyoung started talking about what his little sister had drawn and things that Jisung didn’t really listen to. Doyoung noticed, “My grandpa is having kidney problems and he might need a donor, care to volunteer?” “Sure, I don’t mind.” Jisung replied, his eyes and his mind elsewhere. “This is ridiculous!” Doyoung huffed as he looked behind him to where his friend was looking. He smirked widely after spotting a tall boy who was sitting right next to the soccer team. “I see what’s going on.” Doyoung said with a grin on his face. He continued eating his lunch, letting his friend daydream in peace.
The next lesson was PE. Oh good lord not PE. Jisung had a very bad history with the lesson and his strong hatred against it grew stronger every day. After warming up, Coach Kim announced that it was time for dodgeball. Everyone in the room squealed and yelled excitedly, everyone except for Jisung. The coach had picked the captains of the teams and they were already sorting out their members. At the end, Jisung was the last one left. The team captains were arguing about who would have to have him on his team and clearly, it wasn’t because he was a good player. “I’ll take him.” One of the captains. Jisung lifted his head and met Dongpyo’s starry and soft brown eyes. Jisung stood up almost immediately and smiled awkwardly. “Well, we meet again.” Dongpyo said with a smirk. The blonde blushed at the boy’s words. Suddenly, a ball flew between them, the game has started. Dongpyo dodged the balls thrown at him with ease, sweat starting to trickle down his forehead. Messy black hair, sun kissed skin, and a charming smile. Jisung was almost caught staring until he turned his head and saw a ball flying right to his face. He helped and dodged it by bending to the ground. “Good job on dodging it, you’re pretty good!” Dongpyo exclaimed while he stretched out his hand for a high five. Jisung shyly high fived him back and with that in mind, Jisung did what he had never done before. He played dodgeball without being the first one dying on purpose. The burning passion in him was fueling his moves, he eventually became in the bottom two players left alongside Dongpyo. With teamwork, the pair managed to defeat the last player left and won. The roaring cheers in the gym were getting louder and louder each second. “Hey, wanna get a cup of victory coffee?” Dongpyo asked, running his fingers through his messy wet hair. Jisung nodded happily and smiled at the boy.
2 months later...
Jisung and Dongpyo were now good friends. but Jisung’s feelings still haven’t changed. He still liked Dongpyo, maybe even loved him. They were at the backyard, watching the soccer team auditions and cheerleaders practice. Jisung bit down on his sandwich and said with a full mouth, “Are they actually trying to find more members for the soccer team? There are so many people that already applied!” Dongpyo chuckled and shook his head. “Ah, my naive squirrel. They’re only looking for the best of the best, which is exactly why they chose me as the captain.” He replied smugly. Jisung blushed a bit at he nickname and rolled his eyes. Dongpyo poked Jisung’s cheek and laughed. Jisung decided at that moment, that it was time to tell Dongpyo. He got up from the bench and looked around to see if anyone was around them. Luckily, the cheerleaders and soccer wannabes had left. “What?” Dongpyo asked. The blonde fiddled with his fingers shyly, “W-Well I...”. Dongpyo leaned in a bit closer to listen to what he had to say. “Yes?” “I kinda, sorta um.” Jisung said before stopping himself to fix his words.
“Come on, spit it out Kang.” Dongpyo teased with a smile on his face. Jisung took a deep breath and sighed, attempting to control his heart beat. “Dongpyo, I like you.” Jisung stated clearly. Dongpyo’s smile faded and he slowly went red. The blonde raised an eyebrow at the boy’s unexpected reaction. “What’s going on?” Jisung asked. “W-Well, it’s just that...” The taller boy said, his face turning redder. “Okay guys, you can come out now,” He sighed. Slowly, his friends came out from behind the bushes with letter in their hands and smiled awkwardly. Jisung noticed that the letters they were holding up were forming the sentence, ‘Wanna go out’. Dongpyo covered his face shyly and he slumped onto the bench. Jisung was speechless, he never expected this to happen. “I-I was going t-to ask you out but-” “I ruined it didn’t I?” Jisung said while smiling softly with a hint of regret in his voice. Dongpyo stopped covering his face with his hands and raised an eyebrow. “No, please don’t think like that!” He said, smiling back at him. “It was just unexpected, that’s all.”
“It’s never too late.” Jisung said, pulling Dongpyo up from the bench. He held the boys hand tightly and said,“Ask me out.” Dongpyo raised an eyebrow, he didn’t understand what Jisung was talking about. “I don’t want your efforts go to waste, so go on.” Jisung’s face turned red as he was talking. Dongpyo was going to say something but nothing came out, instead, he nodded and signaled his friends to go back behind the bush. “Kang Jisung, the first day I met you, I was charmed. You were cold at first but you were actually just an awkward and cute boy.” He said with glimmering eyes. Suddenly, all his friends went out from behind the bush once more and they go in formation so that the letters made a sentence. Suddenly, a bouquet of roses fell from out of the sky just in time for Dongpyo to catch them. He threw them at Jisung and the blonde caught them. He looked up in confusion to see a couple of his friends waving from the classroom window upstairs. Jisung couldn’t help but giggle at how thoughtful this was.
Dongpyo quickly took off his hoodie when Jisung wasn’t looking and he turned around to show the letters on the back of his white t-shirt. The whole sentence was now, ‘Wanna go out and be my angel?’. When the blonde looked back, he blushed even harder. “Maybe today didn’t go out as planned but, will you go out with me?” Dongpyo said, looking back at the boy. “Woah, you really planned that out huh?” Jisung teased, crossing his arms. The black haired boy nodded happily and Jisung pinched the boys cheeks. “Yes, I’ll go out with you.” He said while placing a kiss on Dongpyos lips. All his friends cheered from behind the trees, some still behind the bush, and even from the upstairs classroom. Everything was beautiful, beautiful enough to be told about it a thousand times by your dad and you would still ask to hear it again.
