“That was epic!!”
“Exactly, we should go again!”
“I need to have ice-cream first, my taste buds are screaming.”
“Fiiine.” The brown-haired girl said getting off the rollercoaster ride pulling her best friend by her arm and going in search of an ice cream stand, “but we head to the Ferris wheel right after.”
“Heck yes!” Her best friend, Laura, replies with enthusiasm.
A couple of steps later and they both have ice cream cones in their hands.
Laura takes a huge bite of hers almost eating the whole scoop.
“Laura! Take it easy!” her friend scolds licking her scoop.
Laura never gives a damn about anything, she does whatever she wants, however she wants.
“No, it’s more satisfying this way, and not getting a brain freeze is the cherry on top.” She said eating the ice cream cone.
Technology had advanced so much to the point where was possible. Humans could be upgraded and ridden of flaws. It wasn’t cheap, so only the upper-class people could afford it which included Laura’s family.
“That must be so cool.” Her friend said finishing up her ice cream.
“It is,” Laura replies and they get up from their spots on the bench they had earlier sat on. She takes her friend’s hand in hers and they head for the Ferris wheel.
All of a sudden, she pulls her hand out of Laura’s and grasps her stomach as a sharp feeling shoots through.
“Are you okay?” Laura asks wrapping her arms around her shoulders.
“Code Red.” She replies and Laura’s features morph into one of realization. “Just help me help to the toilet, I came prepared.” And Laura complied.
They get to one in record time. She goes in to clean herself up while Laura waits outside.
As she exits the stall she went into, backpack in her hands, she’s met by two men, one with a metal eye and the other with his pinnacle replaced by a metal looking gadget.
“Come with us.” The two burly men in grey suits say grabbing her by her arm and then handcuffing her, “You know what you did.” One of them tells her but she has no idea.
A piece of cloth is placed over her nose and despite her struggles, she falls limp in their hands.
_____
The walls of the room are grey and dull.
In the middle of the room sits a metal table and chair to which she’s chained to.
A single bulb hangs from a long wire in the middle of the ceiling directly above her.
The door opens with a sharp screeching sound and one of the men that grabbed her earlier, the one with the metal eye, walks in with a file in his hands.
He gets to the table and places the file on it then he goes to loosen the piece of cloth tied around her eyes which slowly flutter open immediately after.
“Where am I?” she asks, her eyes slowly taking note of her surroundings.
“Let’s just get down to business.” He says going to the side of the table opposite her and he places a picture in front of her.
“Do you recognize this man?” he asks and she takes a look at the picture.
The man is holding a baby in his arms with a huge smile on his face in a hospital room. His brown hair is packed in a ponytail and there’s a metal ring at the tip of his brows. His white short-sleeved T-shirt exposes his arm littered with black ink.
She frowns, she had never seen this man in her whole seventeen years of existence and she hadn’t even bumped into him ever, why was she being questioned about him?
“No,” she says.
“Be honest, we’ll know if you lie.”
“I haven’t, I promise.”
“How about this woman?” He asks placing another picture on the last one.
The woman had one arm wrapped around the waist of the man in the other photo while he had his arms around her neck. The smile on her face was blinding and genuine. They seemed to be on a yacht in the photo with palm trees behind them.
“No, never.” She says.
He picks up both photos then stares off into space. “All clear.” He said and said and the walls fall to reveal a room with medical equipment and a fleet of doctors hovering around a bed a few feet from her.
“Wh-what’s going on?” she asks looking around frantically.
“Say Hi to your parents for me.” He tells her then goes to break the chains bounding her limbs.
Parents? Her parents were alive? As long as she knew, she was an orphan.
As soon as her limbs are free, he picks her up and she doesn’t put much of a struggle as she’s deep in thought then he places her on the bed.
“My parents are alive?” she asks in a small voice as the doctors make her lay down. “Where are they?” She asks staring at him.
“You’ll know soon.” Was the last thing she heard before everything went black.
_____
She was on the roof of a huge mansion looking down the glass ceiling into a room.
Her blood was boiling with anger and her eyes were glowing red, literally.
The room below her harbours the ones who got her parents killed. She could remember as though it was yesterday. She’d make them feel exactly what her parents had felt before their souls left the world along with the place she called home.
A woman was seated on a huge bed with her head in her palms and a man rubbing her back softly.
She could taste the revenge. She couldn’t wait any longer.
Taking off her backpack, she pulls out a round object with a suction cup underneath it placing it on a panel of glass across from her then tapping a button.
Immediately, the glass shatters and she jumps into the room, landing on her feet.
This causes the couple to be startled and they jump to their feet, the man using his body to shield his wife, pushing her behind him with his tattooed arm.
She stands straight dusting off tiny pieces of glass from her black leather outfit.
“Who are you?” He asks moving backwards slowly. She takes off the mask covering her face and his eyes widen in surprise.
“Amelia.” He whispers and the woman pushes him out of the way and goes to hug her daughter but she forcefully pushes her back causing her to fall unceremoniously to her feet.
Her husband rushes to her side to help her out and they look at their daughter in confusion.
“Amelia? Child?” The woman asks confused.
“Surely you must have the decency to remember the couple you killed leaving being two of their kids, but going ahead to call me your daughter, that’s a stretch.”
“What do you mean? We are your parents-” She’s cut off from talking as Amelia whips out a gun from her suit and hits her head strongly with its grip then hitting the man after.
Silence falls upon the room.
“Much better.” She says cuffing both their wrists together.
She pulls out a small bag from her backpack and she opens it pouring the content of it around them and then placing small black boxes around them.
She takes a seat on a couch opposite them crossing her legs and clicking the button of a small remote in her palm causing an electric barrier to surround them.
A while later, the man sits up all of a sudden and his gaze meets his daughters already watching him intently with her red irises glowing intensely.
“Please, I don’t know what they did to you but believe me, we are your parents-”
Her eyes squint even more glaring harder at him and he shuts up immediately only to begin again.
“We spent months looking for you after they took you. Don’t do this please, at least for your mum.” But his pleas fall on deaf eyes.
She stands up from the couch, walking tentatively slow towards him, her stare not breaking.
As she gets to the barrier, she lights a matchstick then looks him dead in his eyes. “This is for my parents.” She whispers clicking a button causing the barrier before her to dissipate then she lets go of the matchstick and flames follow the trail of gunpowder she had put towards the bodies in the middle.
“Emily! Emily! Wake up!” He yells moving his body to try to get her to wake up but she doesn’t budge.
The silence was broken by a piercing scream from the woman as the flames engulfed her, that of the man following after.
Her mission had been accomplished.
_____
“Boss the Hemmingways have been eliminated.”
A sinister smile dons her lips, she had finally gotten rid of her rivals.
“The girl did it?” she asked.
“Yes.” Was the reply she got and dopamine flooded her brain.
What better way to kill someone than by the hands of their child?
“You’ve done well Laura.” She says and Laura bows. “Now see to it that they get the Nanites out of her and that her memory is wiped. After that, keep her in The Room, she’ll be a good asset to have for future purposes.
