There is going to be a wedding party. The supposed Bride is a close friend to Lily. It's going to be a big party with so much to eat and drink. The groom's father is one big businessman well known in town, so it will definitely be a feast. Though Lili, not a party-type, she of course has no choice but to attend this one. She's so excited that her friend is getting married after a long time of dating her soon-to-be husband. So she anticipates it with all her heart, hoping it comes right now. But no, it's still a week away.
One week has passed. Here appears a lady in a short purple gown, well-designed and shining. Her legs are in block heels and her nails are brightly polished. Her hair is let down, just around her head is a scrunchy bound that matches the color of her gown. She carries a clutch bag embroidered in sparkling diamond stones. She's Brown-skinned, slim with an average girl's tallness. Also in makeup, surely a type that brings out the beauty she never knew she possessed.
Walking in through the door of the party hall, she stood out gorgeously different. Yes, it's Lily. She has been preparing and hoping the day comes, good for her it's today! Different from her friends in body-fitted long gowns, a flared gown was her choice. She couldn't imagine anything snatching away her freedom at the party, not even clothing( the reason why she wore a flared gown). The party will be a long one so she is ever ready to give her whole self; feeling and attention.
Her friends go on to find their place at the front side of the hall. But Lily, not wanting to call too much attention to herself, tries to figure out where to sit. Her eyes spot an empty chair just a distance away. She finds her way through the spaces between the tables. Right beside the empty chair is a man, groomed in black suits, a perfect gentleman in look.
" Is the seat reserved for someone?" Lily asked.
"no" answered the man.
Again she asks "can I sit then?" "sure", said the man.
Lili took her seat on the chair after throwing a quick hi to the other people on the table. The table is rectangular in shape with an uneven length and breadth. One chair each at the breadth sides and two chairs each at the long sides. A straight silence breaks in between the man and Lily after she sat down( that's normal).
Ray's POV
When I saw her from afar I never thought she would be heading right to my side. There are many other empty chairs around. Watching her so close to me caught me in amazement. I couldn't help but reply sharply. I did think I could keep the silence alive until I let out the word which is in no way important as far as I'm concerned.
" So are you here for the Bride?"
Written all over her face is a surprise.
"Yes I am," she answered.
I never expected her to be that surprised. Well, who wouldn't be! It's strange, even to me, that I'm speaking to her right now. I suddenly became interested in conversing with her, and I don't know why.
"That's nice. I'm here for the groom. He is my neighbor from home".
"That's good," she said.
" Pardon my manners, I am Ray.. Raymond. May I know your name". " Lily," she answered.
" Wow, that's a beautiful name". " Thank you, "she replied.
" So are you from this town?"
Lily's POV
Seems my determination to give my whole; feeling and attention to this wedding will turn out futile. This man beside me is already diverting my attention to himself and I can't help but give it to him (it'd be rude if I didn't). He looks like a nice person. The way he asks his questions comes with peace and politeness. He just can't be ignored.
" I am not from this town, I journeyed from the city of Ontio". "Hmm that is cool. You won't believe I also came from there" Ray responded.
"Really! What a coincidence. But the groom is not from Ontio, how come then, I thought you said he's your neighbor from home".
" Yeah ….. home, I meant my parent's place. I no longer live at home. I moved to Ontio last year to take up a new job. So now, I'm settled there", Ray said.
He speaks so fluently, my eyes were fixed on his lips as he pronounced each word.
Ray's POV
She was really paying attention to every detail of what I said. How come she is from Ontio of all places. Seems I can't get enough of amazement with her, can I! "Tell me, what do you do at Ontio?"
"My parents stay there and I am also schooling there" Lili answered.
"That's interesting".
Through the period of their conversation, the party has spun right to the time food is being served. Two men in uniform were standing at the table to serve their food and drinks. A plate of Jollof and fried rice with two sauced chicken laps was placed in front of them. One way or the other their eyes met and they both tore into laughter.
" Woah this is big, I mean the chicken", Ray said.
"Same here for me, it's scaring me," Lili added.
Again, they both burst into laughter as they started the eating battle.
Lily's POV
I can't believe we connected so fast. It's starting to look like we've known each other for a long time.
Ray's POV
I watched her with my side-eye as she consumed the food graciously.
"I love fried rice to jollof rice, which do you like more".
"Same as you Ray, I love fried rice more", Lili responded.
They both looked at each other and smiled.
"Yet another coincidence", they both said at once.
Fascinated at that they burst into laughter once again.
The party lasted long as expected and throughout, Lily and Ray dived from one topic to the other.
The party concluded as the Bride eloped (so to speak) with her husband in an SUV car. Friends and families were gathered to wave and see them off. Amongst the people were Lily and Ray. They all waved as the SUV car zoomed off till it was out of sight.
" So what's next?" Ray asked.
Lili standing before him smiles and says "heading back home of course".
Though it's already late, Ontio is a neighboring city that will take just a maximum of 30 minutes drive to reach there.
"Cool then, I came with my car and I'll be heading back to Ontio now. If you don't mind, you may join me in my drive", Ray said. "That's the most perfect offer ever. I don't mind" replied Lily.
Ray's POV
"shall we then".
As I walked with her to my car, all I felt was happy. Today is really a good day. I'm so glad to have met this stranger turned friend. I can't but anticipate the next adventure ahead. I hope she feels the same way.
Lili's POV
This party turned out to be the base of my greatest encounter. I'm so excited to journey back together with him. It's going to be a more thrilling adventure. I hope he feels the same way.
The door of the car was closed shut as Lili and Ray zoomed off into the busy street.
