Is this Real?!?

I remember the day it all began like it was yesterday! It was a beautiful day! It was the 9th of January 2025. The air was cool and crisp. Evidence was still on the ground from previous snows on the forest floor. From my back porch, I could view the forest that secluded my home perfectly. My home is located at the peak of a hill, allowing me to view the tops of the trees below for miles around me. It was tranquil and very relaxing! I greatly enjoy waking up every morning, brewing my pot of coffee, standing on my back porch with my cup, and relaxing at the start of my day.

This day was much different than all the previous days before! As I was sitting on my back porch swing enjoying nature and my cup of coffee, I suddenly heard a loud noise in the distance! This noise was very unsettling! In the 10 years I have lived in my log cabin, I had never heard anything like this! It sounded like a boom in the distance! However, this was no ordinary boom like the explosion of a bomb going off. No! This was a very loud and sharp boom with what sounded like a screeching noise at the end. This was very peculiar! I immediately stood up, almost dropping my coffee! "What on Earth was that!" I said in a loud, astonished voice!

I looked over towards the direction of the blood-curdling sound and suddenly noticed a glow in the distance. Then, suddenly, I saw flames licking up over the tops of the trees. Within seconds, I watched as this small glow started to spread at an alarming rate! The fire was growing huge! My eyes grew wide with horror at the site before me! Then again, I heard the same noise as before, followed by what appeared to me as the fire spreading even faster and bigger.

I ran inside the house! Fear coursing through my veins! My heart racing faster than I had ever experienced in my entire life! I could feel beads of sweat starting to form on my forehead and under my arms. I ran over and grabbed my binoculars. I immediately headed back outside to my porch. I pulled the binoculars from their case and tried to view the carnage appearing in the distance. I was shaking so much it was hard to even peer through the lenses. As I tried to relax enough to view the glowing area, an image of the affected spot came clear through the binoculars. It was a fire, for sure! Then, I suddenly saw large wings shrouded in smoke and ash breaking through the top of the fire! Then, another loud roar!

At this point, I could no longer hold the binoculars to my face. My arms fell to my side, and my jaw dropped wide open. I witnessed a massive shadowy figure with wings emerge from the treetops. It was now airborne and setting everything ablaze in its path! I could scarcely believe my own eyes! Is what I'm seeing a dragon? An honest, real, living, breathing dragon from storybooks? Impossible! I said to myself. How can this be! Dragons aren't supposed to be real! Tears rolled down my cheeks in awe and despair as I watched this magnificent creature light my world on fire!

I couldn't take my eyes off this massive beast as it did a semicircle behind my house in the distance. It spewed forth a path of destruction and fire in front of it! I watched it fly further and further away, leaving my world in ash! I listened to its ferocious roars long after I lost sight of the creature. It had disappeared over the top of the mountains in the distance. I stood for a minute in disbelief as I allowed everything that I had just witnessed to set in.

Once I had calmed down enough to regain my senses, I turned and went back inside my house. This is unreal, I said to myself. I immediately turned on my T.V. to see if I was the only one to witness these events or if this was happening in other places. As soon as the news station became clear on my television. I saw an all too familiar image take shape in front of me! Fire, smoke, and more dragons! The reporter was in awe and disbelief as he showed videos of these massive creatures worldwide. Apparently, these beasts had been slumbering for hundreds of years right below our feet without anyone knowing! "Oh my God!" I said out loud. This whole time, we thought these creatures were only in stories and myths. They were actually lying dormant underneath us! I watched as the panic and devastation spread in every country across the world.

This is when a ray of hope shined on our world! The military in every country was now taking action! "Yes, get every one of them!" I said aloud. I watched in awe and amazement as the military launched missiles, ammunition, and sonic weapons at these Titans.

However, my heart slowly began to sink as the massive creatures dodged the missiles, were unaffected by the bullets, and countered the sonic weapons with massive roars and bouts of fire. This can't be happening! I thought. Nothing is affecting these dragons! "We are doomed," I said with a heavy heart.

After witnessing the chaos on the television, I turned it off and immediately began to pack all my essential belongings. I no longer had time. The fire set by the dragon in the nearby forest grew and moved ever closer to my house. I had to act quickly and leave my home or be consumed by the ever-approaching fire! Once I had gathered all the items, I thought I would need, I quickly loaded my pickup and tore out of my driveway like a madman! Flying down my dirt roads as fast as I safely could without losing control. I could feel the fear rising in me as the fires grew closer and closer to the road I was on! Navigating the turns like a pro, as my heart raced, I saw the light at the end of the road. Pavement! The highway was now only a couple hundred yards ahead of me. Once I reached the end of the dirt road, I stopped for just a minute to decide what to do. Safety in numbers, I thought to myself. So, I turned my pickup towards the nearest town and drove like a madman to get there as quickly as possible.

As I pulled into town. The scene was like something from a science-fiction book or a horror movie! People were panicking, cars were racing all over franticly, and people were grabbing food from the local grocery store and running. I glanced over to my left and saw a line of cars parked in front of our local bar. This is as good as any place to spend my last hours on earth, I thought to myself. So, I pulled in behind the last car and parked my truck. When I walked inside the bar. I noticed the only sound in the bar was from the T.V. Everyone was sitting quietly, watching the events unfold before them on the news station. I approached the bartender and asked him for a Crown shot and a Budweiser bottle. The bartender scarcely took his eyes off the television as he grabbed my drinks.

"Is this real?" the bartender asked me as he handed me my drinks with tears in his eyes. "It definitely seems to be," I said with a shaky voice. I quickly downed my shot to calm my nerves, and then I held my beer up to the sky. "This is how the world ends. Let's make our last day on Earth the best that we possibly can!" I said as loud as my shaky, cracking voice would allow.
