Today, much like every other day the alarm went off startling me awake. I rubbed my head and sat up, I got up and started walking towards the bathroom when my phone chimed with a new notification. Upon looking at the screen I saw a message from the family business. I didn't want to take it over because I knew the life long commitment and struggle of keeping it going wasn't worth it. It wasn't worth the emotional stress and the nightly visits to the office. Or falling asleep at the desk because the work wasn't done. I chose to ignore it. My phone chimed again and again each new notification being my mother trying to convince me that it would be for my best interest. Day after day I had worked for her, not once wanting to take it over. I wanted to be an musician, not a CEO of some big cooperation. There were new things coming to light of the music area. But my mother didn't like that. She didn't want me to " Fail in the eyes of others" She wanted to " Save me from the thought that i would be rejected by society." Not to mention that I was also attending college full time. So many times I have just BEGGED her to let me lead my life and she said no. I wanted so bad for her to just listen to me and my request, all she saw tho was that her son was rebellious. She never wanted to admit to her friends that I wasn't the son she wanted, however she had no problem bragging about how good I was playing musical instruments and singing. I don't think I am all that good but I still had a dream to sing and play music. Upon walking away from the bathroom and getting dressed I got another notification chime. Looking at it now, shes always been one to get irritated when I don't respond. I went to the office and began my walk to her office. Upon arrival I walked in without knocking and sat in her extra chair. " Don't mind me. Act like I am not here for a while. " My mother continued to talk and I continued to just sit there and listen. Once her meeting was over the others left and I stayed behind. " Wow great speech mom. You left out the part where you needed their help tho. " My mother seemed to just scowl at me and turned away. " I wouldn't dare tell them that I needed their help. However it would be nice if you actually showed up on time. Why is it that you are always so late? Does this business mean nothing to you?" I looked down at the desk and clicked my tongue, " Does it not matter that I don't even want to do this mom? I just want to be my own person. Normal parents would be proud that their kids want to be independent. "She didn't want me to stray away from her. She wanted me to take over the business and stay in her grasps. My dream was far bigger than that. Even then if it didn't work out I would have a fall back to lean on, but she didn't understand that at all. She gazed at me with pain in her eyes. " I want you to succeed, and I know you would here if you just took it over. Stop dreaming about something so silly and be the face of the company. "
I clicked my tongue once more and began to walk towards the door, " Mom.. This isn't something I ever wanted. I just wanted to make you happy. And I was hoping that you would feel the same about me. But this is clearly one sided. I will gladly take over if my music doesn't work out."She slammed her fist into the table, " It is not one sided. You are wasting your life on a silly dream! Why do you disrespect me so much. " I walked out and grabbed my keys from my pocket then to the door. Right as i was about to open the door my steps were halted by the hand that rested upon my shoulder. I looked at the hand then the person connected to the hand and pivoted to the right escaping the grasp. " What is it?" I looked over to the male standing in front of me. " Your mother wishes you well you know, And I know you don't think that she cares about you, but you don't get to see what I do sir. When she sits there texting you day in and day out, with no response. Or when you leave the look of sadness, She is just trying to look out for your best interest sir. " I clicked my tongue several times and nodded then walked out the door. I figured something like that would happen, but it wasn't going to stop me from going where I was headed. I walked down the street to the studio that hired me for part time to sing. I sang to my hearts content when I was there. The days grew long and the weeks longer. Several months had passed each time talking to my mother less and less. I finally reached the place I was meant to be and when I got to the top I had succeeded in making a life in music. I went to check the mail on the way home and there was a Letter in a red envelope. I stopped dead in my tracks unable to blink, unable to move, unable to speak or think. Red Letters are not a good sign where I am from. Red Letters could mean one of 6 things. 1: Symbol of emergency 2: Symbol of death 3:Symbol of bankruptcy 4: Symbol of disowning 5:Symbol of Eviction and 6: Symbol of deconstruction. I was worried as to what this one might be, Could it be that my mothers place went bankrupt. Could it be that someone died. When I finally got back to the realization that i had to open this letter I walked into my house and opened it. When I opened the letter I felt my eyes drop down and began to water.
"Dear Jesper,
I am sorry to inform you, that your mother has passed away due to a serious illness. Considering you are her only son you will inherit her company as well as her assets and many other things as well. Please stop by the office at your earliest convenience to discuss the rest of the terms and conditions.
Sincerely,
Caspien Marks"
I threw the paper and ran to the office as quick as my feet could carry me. I ran inside and slammed through to her office and walked to her chair. The tears streamed down my face, I couldn't believe she was actually gone. I shouldn't have treated her the way I did. I should have talked to her more. So many regrets and I cant even take them back. I should have done more, I should have made her proud. I should have just stuck around her more and been a better son. Her assistant walked in and gripped my shoulder, " I'm sorry for your loss sir. When she passed away she asked me to make sure that you were well taken care of. So I brought her will to you as well as the keys to the house. Ill leave you to this then. " As soon as he left I grabbed the keys and went to her house. I looked around and sat down then began to read her will. Everything she had.... all of it.... it was all left to me even tho I deserved none of it. I was the son that deserved nothing but got it all. This right here.... This is how I became the CEO of a fortune I didn't deserve.

Interesting idea. However, weren’t these stories supposed to be in second person POV? I think the story could have still worked that way!
