My Friend, An Angel

Matt Baker was a writer who felt lost at the moment. He didn’t have much to hope for as he struggled to write new novels and was wondering if it was time for him to finally get a new job. Suddenly, something happened that wouldn’t have happened in Matt’s wildest imagination, an angel appeared and introduced himself as Moonglare.

“Hello, my name is Moonglare,” the angel introduced himself

“Am I already dead,” asked Matt.

“Haha, no you aren’t,” replied Moonglare.

“Then why are you here,” asked Matt who could hardly believe what he was seeing.

“I come to the human world once in a while to visit the inhabitants,” responded Moonglare, “to be honest, I do this on a random basis.”

“Are you here to tell me to not give up on writing,” asked Matt excitedly.

“I actually didn’t know that you were a writer until now,” replied Moonglare.

“Then why are you here,” asked Matt annoyedly, “if you aren’t here to help me, then can you leave.”

“This is weirdly interesting,” stated Moonglare to himself, “most of the time humans are amazed that I appeared to them, and would start worshipping me almost immediately.”

“Well, do you have anything to offer me,” asked Matt with increased annoyance.

“We can talk about your writer’s block,” responded Moonglare, “if you need something to talk about.”

“Well, I wrote a few good novels in the past,” replied Matt, “I understand that they didn’t sell very well.’’

“It could just be the market,” responded Moonglare, “niche books aren’t always easy to sell.”

“No, they were meant to be mainstream books,” replied Matt, “I was able to write multiple romance books, and I did a good job at it to.”

“Can I read them,” asked Moonglare. Matt then gave him copies of his latest novels. “These aren’t very good,” Moonglare stated to himself as he read the books, “these look like he is trying to chase trends and trying to capitalize on more popular work.” Moonglare was too polite to tell Matt that his work was very generic and boring. “Well, have you tried to write something else,” stated Moonglare to matt, “it could help your career if you branched out to other genres if one of your books doesn’t sell very well.”

“No,” responded Matt, “I think that my career is meant to be writing romance novels.”

“It could just be oversaturation of the market,” replied Moonglare, “what do you think.”

“There are a lot of romance novels in the market, and they constantly sell well,” replied Matt, “so I don’t think that it is that.”

“Well then, can you tell me about your writing process,” asked Moonglare who was trying to help Matt.

“Well, it is a romance novel isn’t it,” asked Matt, “what more do you need other than two people fall in love in attractive locations.”

“I think you will need to add more detail to it,” replied Moonglare, “and honestly, I am only trying to help you.”

“So, you think you can do better than me,” asked Matt.

Moonglare was annoyed that Matt became upset when he was only trying to help the struggling writer, but Moonglare will continue to try to help Matt even if the writer came off as ungrateful. “I am only trying to help you Matt,” replied Moonglare, “have you tried reading other romance books.”

“Well, I have read a few other books,” replied Matt, “but not a lot of them.

“Then maybe you can find inspiration from them,” recommended Moonglare, “that is how a lot of writers created their work, by finding inspiration in other writers.”

“Well, I read a few romance novels, and I don’t think I will need to do more than that,” responded Matt rudely, “I think that if other writers can be successful in how generic their work is, than I can be successful as well.”

“Entitled little prick,” stated Moonglare, “I am beginning to think that trying to help you is a pointless endeavor.” “Are you sure you want to pursue your writing career this way,” asked Moongalre who was trying to help Matt, “it is neither healthy or good long-term.”

“Yes,” replied Matt, “I want to be famous, and writing romance novels is an easy way to get there.”

Moonglare was visibly starting to lose his patience but tried to redirect Matt into a healthier direction. “Well then, we can talk about how you would write your characters for your next book,” replied Moonglare, “are you willing to share that.”

“Well, I have written a love interest,” responded Matt.

“Can you describe her to me,” asked Moonglare, “this could be a good place to start.”

“Well, there is a guy named Sam Ronald who is in love with her,” responded Matt, “and he is willing to do whatever it takes to get her to like him.”

“That isn’t a bad start,” replied Moonglare who was happy that they were making progress, “what does he do to convince the woman to like him.”

“Well, Sam goes wherever she goes,” responded Matt, “and he learns everything that she likes in order to learn how to woo her.”

Moonglare was worried when he heard that. “Matt, I think that is stalking,” replied Moonglare concernedly, “and I think that if the woman learns about this, she will file a restraining order against her.” “Also, I don’t think that this character would be either pleasant or interesting for readers to read about,” continued Moonglare.

Matt was visibly annoyed by the criticism. “Well, if you don’t like it, then maybe you have bad taste in literature,” responded matt rudely.

Moonglare was trying his best to restrain himself. “Well, is there anything else that you would enjoy writing about,” asked Moonglare.

“I did write about the woman,” responded Matt.

Moonglare was a little worried when he heard that but decided to go along. “How did you write her then,” asked Moonglare.

“She likes expensive things, including jewelry and Matt plans to become a master thief in order to get the things that she wants,” replied Matt.

“Great,” replied Moonglare to himself, “an offensive portrayal of the man and the woman.” “Well, I have to leave now, and I hope for the best for your career,” responded Moonglare who was trying to be polite.

Matt was anything but. “Don’t come back unless you actually have good ideas,” responded Matt rudely.

“Whatever,” responded Moonglare to himself, “maybe ten years from now, you will learn your lesson, and if not, I don’t know how I can help you.”
