Adventure Drama Friendship

Ruby was scared and nervous. She entered the ladies’ room and had no idea what to do. This guy she met, the one that was so damn cute, started sending up red flags and flares. She needed to get out of there.

She was standing at the sink, looking in a mirror at herself. Pretty upset at the fact she let it go this far. But he was just so cute!

She did not notice someone come in and go into a stall. A minute or two later, the woman used the sink. They made eye contact.

“What’s wrong, girl? You look scared to death and all mad at the same time.”

Ruby looked at her, intending not to say a word about what was happening, “There’s a guy at my table, a really cute guy, but he red-flagged by the things he said. I have no idea how to get out of here. I hoped the window was large enough for me to slide through,” She looked at the window, as did the other woman. It was tall but too thin to be used as an escape, “I have no idea what to do.”

The new woman said, “OK. First off, calm down. My name is Darleene, and this can easily be fixed. Stay right here, and I will be right back.”

“Darleene?” But she spoke too slowly. Darleene was out the door.

Ruby stood there and stared in the mirror. She felt so alone in the universe. Her mind started creating things about this guy: rapist, serial killer, trafficker.

A minute or two later, Darleene came back in with another woman.

“This is Monica. Let’s get you out of here.”

Monica said, “OK, we’re about the same size, and I am so glad you have short hair. How would you like to hide inside my Cousin It,” She removed her hair, revealing a nice crop of short hair that did not look all that bad. It covered Ruby’s dark blond hair perfectly and completely.

Monica is black, Ruby is white, and the hair looks natural. Being of Italian heritage, the dark brown, almost black hair perfectly fit her face and complexion. Ruby realized they were all different races. White, black, and Darleene being Asian.

“By the way, I slowed as I passed the table you came from, and he gave me the creeps, too. He is literally staring at the hallway to the restrooms.”

Ruby hugged them each, long and hard. “Thanks. You are lifesavers.”

They all swapped clothes, and in a few minutes, none looked like themselves. Darleene pulled out makeup, and they gave her a look, “A new look it is!” Darleene tells them, “I apply makeup for a soap opera. Ever heard of Tyler’s Roost?” She said as she worked, “So, to me, making someone look like someone else is what I do!”

Monica added, “Tylers Roost is my secret happy place. I record them and watch them at night.”

In the redressing process, Monica loosened her bra a notch or two, and they grabbed an entire roll of toilet paper and stuffed her front.

The three laughed a little. Ruby said, “I have no idea what a set of these would be like for real. They’re huge!”

The bartender came in and looked at the three of them. She smiled, “I know what’s up. Which of you is Doris?”

Ruby raised her hand.

“I thought your name was Ruby?” Darleene said.

“It is,” She replied. All three women seemed to get the hint at the same time.

“OK?”

Darleene said, “That guy Ruby is talking to is creepy, so we are busting her outta here as someone else.”

The new woman said, “Understood. Let me tell him there was a waiting line in the lady’s room, and Doris will be out shortly. After all, there are only three seats in this theater, and there is no area designated as standing room only!” She laughed to herself.

The others all smiled.

“By the way. He ordered Doris a drink, but it had already sat there for a few minutes. I would tell you to ‘accidentally’ knock it on the ground. If you had gone back there, I would have seen it and brought you a fresh drink. You know, just to be safe. He also gives off a bad vibe to me. He looked a bit too squirrelly to me when I dropped it off. He asked me to check in on you.”

She turned and left.

Ruby looked at her new friends, “I owe you both big. If we get away clean, dinner is on me.”

Monica said, “It’s almost 2 AM. Make it breakfast at the greasy spoon.”

“Deal. Did either of you drive,” Ruby asked.

They both said, “No, they took Lyft.”

Ruby pulled out her phone and ordered a Lyft Lux, and the others saw what she had ordered.

“That’s expensive!” Monica said.

“You two deserve it. Now, what do I need to know,” Ruby said.

Darleene said, “OK. Do not try to hide; that would be like sending up a flare that says you are not you. Walk like a hooker. If he does look at you, it won’t be your face he’s looking at.”

Ruby laughed.

Darleene and Monica put everything back into their bags, and the three walked out. Monica is in the lead, Ruby is in the middle, and Darleene is bringing up the rear.

There were whistles, hey babies, and a couple of marriage proposals when they walked out. Ruby’s phone beeped, and she looked. She said loud enough for the other two to hear that the car was out there.

“Sisters, our chariot awaits!”

They walked out the door, and Darleene turned to look at the guy. He was laser-focused on the lady’s room door and was getting frustrated. She grinned and followed her friends out of the bar.

As they exited, they saw a Cadillac Escalade in front of the door, with that pretty pink LYFT sign in the window. They walked up to the car, and the driver was out of his seat and on the passenger side, opening the door for them, “Ruby?” He asked.

“Damon. Nice to meet you. My new sisters are hungry. We need breakfast. Where would you suggest?”

“Well, you set a Waffle House 8 miles away as your destination, but there is a much nicer place closer. It’s open 24 hours a day, and the food is excellent. That’s my go-to place to eat at Oh-Dark-Thirty.”

“Take us there, please,” Monica said.

All three women handed him a twenty for being an honest gentleman.

“What’s this?” He asked.

“Darleene replied, “A tip!”

“Make that a pre-tip,” Ruby added.

He bowed like a butler and closed the door. Walking around to the driver’s side, he hopped in and put the car in gear, “Is the music OK?” They all nodded. Satellite channel seven, so seventies music. But for ten minutes, it is a perfect end to the night.

Turning to the back seat, “Ladies. We’re off!

Ruby was sitting in the center of a bench seat. She grabbed both of them around the shoulder and pulled them close.

“Sisters, I love you both. You stormed the castle, got me out of the tower, came to my rescue, and slayed the black knight.”

They all had a slight moistness in their eyes.

Darleene said, “You know. That was fun!”

Monica added, “Let’s not do that again, shall we?”
