Chapter 1

Hello, it’s me again. Ya know, Dawn. I’m writing this time to tell you about how my recent outing with my boyfriend, Lance went. So, here we go.

The day started like how most of my days have started out as, lately. With me going to the swimming hole, nearby and swimming around in my merform. I still can’t believe my family can transform into merpeople. Anyways, I invited Lance over to my house. While I was swimming, I lost track of time and without warning, Lance showed up at said swimming hole.

“Dawn, are you here?” he called out for me as I quickly swam into the cave behind the fall. “Angel said you’d be here.”

Now the panic attack has officially set in. I didn’t know what to do. There’s no way I can just show him the truth. I mean I just recently learned about it, myself.

“Come out or I’m gonna leave.” Lance insisted as he stood his ground.

Shoot I don’t want him to, leave but at the same I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to reveal the truth to him, either.

“Alright.” Lance said as he turned around. “I’m leaving.” He started to walk away.

Before he got too far away, I swam out of the cave behind the waterfall.

He froze in place for a moment. “Dawn, please tell me that was you.”

I sighed in defeat before assuring him that it was me. He turned back to face the water once more as I poked my head out of it. “Hi, Lance.” I finally said.

“Why didn’t you tell me you wanted to go swimming? I could’ve brought my swimsuit.” Lance said.

I shook my head. “I’m not wearing a swimsuit.” I admitted, nervously. He tilted his head in confusion as he stared at me.

Then it happened, I decided to come clean. After all, he’s my boyfriend. “Lance, there’s something I need to tell you. Mainly because I feel you deserve to know. Before I do there’s a question you must answer for me.”

“Of course, Dawn.” Lance assured me. “What is it?”

I took a deep breath before the question spilled out of my mouth. “Can you keep a secret?”

From the look on his face, it was clear that it was thinking about his answer. Then he gave it, “For you, I will.”

I breathed a sigh of relief. ‘Thank you.” I said. “Promise, you won’t freak out?”

He smiled as he nodded. “I promise.”

With that, I slowly crawled out of the water, toward him. The whole time, my eyes stayed focused on the ground not wanting to see the look on his face. Once I was fully out of the water, I adjusted myself to a somewhat sitting position.

He stared at me with wide eyes before sitting down beside me. “So, you’re a mermaid?

I turned to him and nodded. “Everyone on my mom’s side is a merperson.”

He nodded as he said, “Interesting.”

I looked at him in utter confusion. “It doesn’t seem to bother you.”

“You’re right. Cause, it doesn’t.” he admitted in agreement. He then looked like he wanted to ask me, something. “Wanna know why?”

I shrugged. “Um, sure.”

He took a deep breath. “My family also has a secret.”

My eyes went wide as my mind raced. “Please, tell me.”

He giggled a bit. “Alright. Me and my family rule a country not too far from here.”

“What?” I said in utter disbelief. “You’re royalty?”

He nodded. “Sure am. Hope that’s ok?”

“Of course, it’s ok.” I assured him. “Also, I kinda figured you weren’t from around here.”

He raised an eyebrow at me. “Really?”

I nodded in reply. “Yep.”

It was clear from the look on his face that he was thinking about something. So, about your family secret. Um, how long have you known about it?”

I shrugged. “Not long.” I then looked up at the sky before turning my attention back to him. “It’s late. You’d better go.”

He stood up but didn’t leave. “No way, am I letting you walk home in the dark.”

I tried to protest but for some reason was unable to. I changed back into my land form and stood up.

“Ok. That was cool to see.” he commented as he watched.

I giggled a little. “Oh. Um, thanks.”

He held his hand out to mine and without hesitation, I grabbed it. Before I knew it, we were walking away from the swimming hole and towards my family’s house.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few moments later, we arrived. “Don’t worry about your family secret.” he said with a wink. “I’ll keep my lips sealed about it.”
I smiled. “And I’ll keep yours.” He then pulled me into an embrace. An embrace that I missed being pulled into since he and his family were always doing who knows what. Well, I now know why he’s family is always busy.
“Until tomorrow, my lady.” he said before he waved at me as he left.
“Same.” I said as I watched him disappear down the street. Then with a heavy heart I entered my house.
Chapter 2
Once I was inside, my brother Angel approached me. “Hey, sis. How was your date?”
I didn’t answer him. How could I? How could I tell him what I’ve done. I stared at him and shook my head and tears streamed down my face.
He noticed and held me. “Dawn, what’s wrong? Lance better not have dumped you because if he did.”
I looked up at him and shook my head. “It’s not what he did but what I did.”
Angel raised an eyebrow at me as he seemed to be confused. “Did you dump him?”
I shook my head, again. “I did something I knew was a bad idea but did it, anyway. I showed him the truth about our family.”
Angel proceeded to stare at me like I said something truly awful. “You showed him?
I nodded. “He promised to not to tell anyone.”
“Are you sure?” Angel asked, curiously as I nodded, again. “Alright. Just be careful. I know you love him and all. There might be a slight chance that he lied about not telling anyone.”
I sniffled as I wiped my nose on my shirt. “I know, Angel.”
“I mean it, sis.” he said. “Please be careful, alright?”
I took a deep breath. “I will, promise.”
He then breathed a sigh of relief. “Good. Now it’s almost time for dinner.”
“Ok.” I said in reply as I followed him to the dining room where the rest of our family was.
Epilogue
After dinner, we all went off to do our own thing. Angel went to his room to play games on his computer, my twin sister Kela did something. I actually forgot what she did but as for me. I went to my room, sat at my desk and wrote this entry. I thought about telling mom and Kela about the fact that my boyfriend knows what we are but decided not to. At least, not yet. Don’t worry, Angel promised not to tell them. After all, it’s my secret not his. Well, that does it for this entry. Good night.
