The strange voice

It was a very important time for the Mc Robbins family. The Mc Robins are a family of four girls and one boy. They have always had this long tradition of hosting a family dinner every year end to bring the family together and talk about their successes and scold those who have been distant.

Everyone was busy grocery shopping, tidying up, cutting vegetables, cooking while the kids were outside playing. Everyone had to prepare a dish of their own. "Vanessa is not going to make it isn't it? She's always so busy for things like this " said Sarah. " I think she's just being an adult just like everyone else I know ,I'll send her a reminder though, she needs to get a man too "

"Get a man? She's a man herself, I mean look at the way she dresses, I just hope she's not on the curvy path" says Michelle .

"Curvy path? What do you mean ? Nobody in our family behaves like that so I'm sure she's just who she is ", Sarah intervenes.

There's an awkward silence that fills the room after that heated discussion about Vanessa and her dress sense. It feels like a ghost stole their voices.

"I'm going to go check on the children", Sarah says to break the silence . She goes outside to check the kids and decides to catch her breath after the serious conversation about her sister.

"I'm sure she's not like that, I'm sure she will bring a man back or I will see to it", Sarah thinks to herself. She goes back in and continues to make the Turkey and other dishes.

It's evening already and everyone was setting up the table and bringing out the various dishes that was prepared. The aroma from the food made the kids excited. Vanessa was nowhere to be found yet.

Vanessa is always busy, she plays football in the evenings and is a police officer in the day time. She never makes time for family neither does she have time for herself.

Sarah rings her phone one more time to see if she would pick up but she doesn't pick up at all. "You really should have time for your family before it gets too late " Sarah says in the text she sends to her.

"Let's get on with the dinner, I don't think she's coming, she's probably playing football like some guy she thinks she is " , Sarah concludes.

They say the grace and everyone starts eating their food, in between their food Michael drops an announcement. Ahem, I'd like to make an announcement, I have found a wife and I'll bring her home soon.

"Congrats Mike, that's the kind of news we need right now unlike your sister".

Michael is Vanessa's twin brother and unlike her he is very calm and involved in the family affairs. He smiles at the the happy faces but is sad that he can not share this news with his twin sister.

They continue eating and making jokes till they hear a voice behind them saying " sorry I'm late guys, I had to wait for my girlfriend to get here before we started coming ".

The drop their cutlerys in shock with opened mouths and wide eyes to see Vanessa standing there with a girl who she says is her girlfriend.
