Fantasy Fiction Friendship

One wouldn't suspect a dice set to hold any power. However, over the years, certain sets have been rumored to house the souls of those of another world. I was skeptical of such things until a dice set just like that was given to me.

See, when I was given that set. I was a DND player and wanted a new set since I saved up money from doing chores. I went to the game. I looked around at the various dice sets. Even contemplating getting a cup full of random dice. Until the manager of the store asked me what I was looking for. I said that I wanted a new dice set. He looked at me with a pleasant smile on his face and said and I quote "I know just the thing." he walked around the glass counter which was filled with rare and large-scale DND figures and their various figures from other TTRPGs. Within a couple of minutes, he came back with a simple black box. He opened and in it were several hexagonal boxes. He laid them out and opened them revealing the most beautiful metal dice sets I've ever seen. There was a silver set with gold numbers, a copper set with black numbers, a gold set with white numbers, and the one I eventually chose was a dark blue set with gray numbers. I chose them because I thought the set was calling my name. Whispering it in the faintest tone. I know I wasn't imagining it because my thoughts are never like that. When I said I wanted to buy the dark blue set the manager smiled again, and packed up the ones I didn't choose. He put the box up and rang it up. The price was $300. I said, "Wow, wow, wow, I didn't realize they were that expensive." the manager chuckled and said, "I didn't put in the discounts yet." I was very confused. Why didn't he say that they were on sale? Why weren't there any advertisements? Heck, why weren't there any price tags on the boxes? It didn't make sense to me. Then what's weirder was that he said "That'll be $29.67" which may not seem weird but I only had $30 on me, that I planned on spending. So after I got my change back, I got in my car and started driving back home.

While waiting at a red light the faint whispering I heard before was becoming louder. As I got closer to home the noise became much clearer. "Free me, free me," was the phrase that was repeated in my head. Again I knew I wasn't hallucinating. Anyways I get back home. I sit on the couch and I open the dice. The whispering was much louder and much clearer. As I picked up the dice and examined them I saw that the blue metal had a glossy finish, the edges finely cut with extreme precision. Then something caught my eye. I looked down at the box near the top a white sliver of something poked out from behind the black velvet that snuggled the dice. I managed to pull it out and some instructions said the following: Put half the dice set in one hand, half in the other, close your eyes, take deep breaths, and listen to the dice until you see a figure walking towards you. Slow your breathing. And mentally reach out to the figure. I proceeded to follow the instructions and the last thing I knew I wasn't in my body.

I woke up to see that my clothes changed to some sort of medieval outfit. I couldn't move my arms or legs. I was not in control. All of sudden I heard a loud "I am FREE!" scream from what used to be my body. After a bit, the person looked around my house. They were very confused as to what everything was, and where they were, and messed around trying to figure out what everything was. They eventually stagged to the bathroom and looked into the mirror. They were a pale-skinned person with pointy ears, the blondest hair I had ever seen, and silver armor with plant vines sprouting leaves that covered it. Under the armor was some sort of white gown. I later found out it was Gambeson but it wasn't as thick as what I researched. Anyway. When he looked into the mirror he was astonished. I think it was the first time he truly saw himself, and was amazed at how clear he could see. Then in a short while, I was back to normal.

Over the next several days I managed to talk with the person and found out the guy who now lives in my head is Yaleben SIlverVine, an aristocrat's son. He grew tired of politics and originally wanted to join the military to fight mermaids only to find out that his magical potential wasn't strong enough to handle the type of power they wielded, so instead he switched to becoming an adventurer to see the world and to claim big kills in his family honor. During one such quest, he was fighting a group of wizards who cast a spell on him and became trapped within this set of dice. I told him how I was put into the Child Protection Services because of the abusive family was I in. I was then put into the foster system and after a couple of years was adopted by the family I still live with. He felt sorry for me but understood that just like him he was pulled away from his original family only to find a new one.

In terms of personality, he is very vocal about his opinions. Especially when it comes to gender roles and attitudes. He's not an incel by any means, however, it would seem his culture doesn't seem to view women nearly the same way as we do here. For instance, he said that a woman who can give birth but refuses is selfish unless she works herself to the bone to help society as a whole. He also stated that those who sleep around are some of the, how do I put this nicely, worst scum in the world. However, his views on what men should do are somehow even harsher. He says that any man who drinks to escape his pain is a weak pathic fool. He also stated that if a guy can't kill another guy he is useless to society, another hot take of his is that men must rule their households and those who let their wives run it are either idiots or weak. As well as a bunch of other stuff that I rather not say. Also, another big thing about him is that he is really good at talking to people and understanding them.

For instance, while I was at school, someone was trying to debate me about some controversial topic. During the debate, Yaleben was giving pointers, tips, and other stuff which allowed me to appear way smarter than I actually am. This caught the attention of some kid who apparently had noticed that I changed weirdly. I didn't pay much attention until he asked if I had a set of metal dice. This piqued my interest because I thought I was the only person in my area to have a dice set like mine. Eventually, I befriended my classmate whose name is Jack. He even invited me to his dad's church, and I said yes. Oh boy if only I realized what mess I would walk into.

The first thing was the fact that the church was a multi-story office building. The lobby area was very nice, and each floor seemed to correlate with the power and wisdom of each follower. After taking a few tests. Yaleben and I were placed in 3rd from the bottom. We were the strongest of the weakest, but within a year of training and going there I managed to work my way up a couple of floors. Jack though, was on a whole different level. His Kamoss character doesn't only dish out impressive hits, he can tank impressive hits too. Then that fate full day came.

I was at school. During one of my classes, I realized Jack wasn't there. I found it strange but never looked into it. That was until I went to lunch where on the TVs was the news covering some fighting happening in the church. They saw weird energy blast through windows. Explosions could be heard. Bodies fell from the building. My heart sank. I knew some of the people there. I knew I was watching my friends die in front of me and there was nothing I couldn't do. The rest of that day was a blur. The school closed for the day and my family tried to comfort me when I told them some of my friends had died in an accident. I never had the courage to tell them about Yaleben or the church I was going to. They were not fond of religion, nor did they seem to care about what I was doing. Not to mention they probably would've paid a psychologist or asked for pills to calm my "delusions." Back to the story, after that, I stopped training. I never felt so helpless, so weak, so pathetic. Yaleben felt my pain and tried to help me work through it. I'm still traumatized by what I saw on the screen that day. I didn't see Jack for months and thought he died during the attack. Until one day I was told he left the school and transferred to another. Hearing that did bring my hopes down, but knowing Jack survived gave me hope that one day I'll meet him again.

That day came when I was running to the store and was looking for something when I heard Jack's voice. I turned to him and his demeanor had changed. Instead of just being a religious zealot he seemed more calm and moderate. He smiled when he surprised me. Which I'm not accustomed to. He seemed like a totally different person. He then summarized the attack on the church and how his dad was going to summon a powerful demon but luckily was stopped by a group called the Dice Changers. He then told me that he was training with an angel at a game store and that his power grew even more. None of what he was saying made any sense then it struck me that I'm a a former cult member who has a guy stuck in a dice set, so yeah nothing should be crazier than that. Anyway, after Jack and I caught up, we exchanged phone numbers and went our separate ways.

After that encounter I continued my training, this time I made it more personal and more power-building focus. I grew stronger, but it was hard trying to hide this from my parents. Luckily we have a home gym with some decent equipment and enough weights to move around and do various exercises with. A couple of months later, I got a text from Jack saying to meet him at a city block. Of course, I go there and there are some former members there. Some were survivors of the attack while others were nowhere near it. He was told that one of Jack's friends in the Dice Changers had been kidnapped and was being held hostage by some sex traffickers. He then drew up a plan on how to save him as well as the taking out the criminals. After giving out the plan we attack the compound. We stormed into every room, killing so many evil people. Bullets whizzed by my head and the sounds rang in my head for hours. I still remember the screams, cries, spells, faces, and death around me. Yaleben killed his first bad guy with his sword and a few more with his magic. Most of the time he was giving buffs or healing since. The entire time he was a Warlock. We saved hundreds of women and children that day. The Dice Changers killed the leader of the group and the rest were arrested. However, during the chaos, the police did kill a few of our people by mistake. Which almost lead to the cult fighting the police, sex traffickers, and for some reason the Dice Changers.

So in short I'm now a senior in high school. Yaleben and I are now members of the Dice Changers. My family still doesn't know that I am one. I also am planning on going to some Christian college so that I learn about the truths that were hidden from me, and so that I'm close to home. So yeah that's my story so far.
