I can't help what happened. I can't help what he did, but the blame was put on me. It wasn't my fault. It was his. He threw her off the bridge hung by her neck. So here I, Scarlett Madison, write in my report, the story of Jane Salem. The young witch of the black lakes.
It was just a month ago, and everything changed. The search for the killers of Jane Salem began. It was unsuccessful for they put me in here and not the witch murderer. Jane was in my coven, but we were more than a coven. We were lovers, friends, sisters by bond, and he killed her. He hung her over the bridge and wrote WITCH on her body in her own blood. She was so young and my only love. I hereby recount the month of her death and the beginning of the search.
She was so happy the day before her death. I had proposed to her. We were going to be married in a month. We spent that night together. She left that morning to tell her parents. They didn't find her body till that afternoon. They had no proof of me doing it. The only thing they had was my history with killing witches. The thing is I never killed a witch. I was framed for all of them. So they framed me for this one.
I speak to me dear Jane. They threw me in here but forgot I was a witch, so I use my necromancy to speak to her spirit. She has told me who did it, but the council does not believe me because the man who did it is no other than Dr. Charles Drew jr. He is one of the most powerful warlocks of the twenty-first century. He himself is the spawn of the famous alchemyst nun other than Nicholas Flamel. No one has been able to prove crimes he has committed, no one dares to defy his requests those who have, haven't been heard from in century’s.
The day after her body was found, the search began for the Killer. They blamed me, knowing she was with me the night before. I can never tell who it was because they will never believe me. They visited me that day, the police. I never knew why they thought I did it, she was my only true love. It was so hard seeing their faces. Knowing they knew her personally they were her closest friends, and they blamed me even though they knew she was my lover. The investigation went on for an entire month before they finally locked me up in this cage. During that time everything changed. Her parents locked me out; they didn't want to hear anything for me. Her friends stopped talking to me. Our coven was broken, our powers fading. I could do nothing except a little bit of magic I knew that required no one else. They investigated him, but had no evidence of him doing it. That's what he does, hides his tracks.
When our coven broke, our powers became weaker. The only thing they had that proved I did it was she was with me the night before her death. This evidence proved existence to the council. They had interrogated all of us, what shook me the most was when Drew was found dead in my apartment a day after Jane was killed. Then it was all put on me. That added to my sentence in jail. I don't have much longer here, only a few weeks and then I will be put in a parol house. And here I end my report. The council will still not believe me with this report but no matter.

“Here” I say as I hand in the report. Joe, one of the guards that i have come to think of as a friend, takes the report. “Thanks Scar, be careful. Only a week left.” I smile at his reminder that I won’t be in caged anymore. This was going to be a long week but it will be fine.
“You're up.” The guard screams signaling my turn for my one phone call I get a week. I always call Natalie, she is the only friend I have left. “Hello?” I smile. “ Hey Natalie.” I can hear her drop the phone. “ Darling what is wrong?” I hear on the other end of the phone. “Nothing Charles.” I stop, he is alive. How could she. Next thing you know the phone goes silent. The operator says “ Your call has ended, have a lovely day.” I drop the phone, I'm innocent. “ I'm innocent!” I scream, the other ladies there cheer me on. Screaming things like “ Yea you are.” and “ You are Innocent” I ran out of there to the courtyard. I knew it. Jenaveve, a woman in the prison with me, follows me out. She whispers in my ear. “Double Jeopardy.” I think about what she said, and I smile. Double jeopardy.
A week later, I'm out. On my way to my parol house. Everyday that week I had pushed my body to its physical limits. I had become the strongest woman in the prison and I was determined to find Charles. He was my target. The day I got to the parol house I dropped out. I ran to the public records office. And broke in. I searched for name changing records and found him. He was two miles away. I grabbed my gun and walked to his house. I found him drunk one the couch the perfect place for him to be. I put the gun to his forehead and shot three times. One shot for every time he betrayed me. He died silently with no mercy. I walked out of there not worrying to leave a trace, free. He deserved his death. I didn't care if I killed him “again”. Double jeopardy protected me. He was already dead. I left the files of name change, and everything he changed to hide what he did, on the coffee table. He was already dead.
Double Jeopardy- If a person is already legally dead, they can't be killed again. The person that murdered them is free of legal charges because that person is already dead.
