Adventure

Len always loved surfing. Since he had been a boy he had been out on the waves almost every weekend, competing where possible. When he was old enough to travel his own, he packed his board and made to Hawaii where the surf was seriously up and all of the world’s best were there starting with the Hawaiian Pro. He surprised himself by winning that one and then one other of the big three.  Back home in Australia he set himself another to surf the longest wave starting off quite a long way off the south coast of the mainland which, by the time they got there felt like half way to Tasmania. After getting off the boat and into the sea, Len had to wait before a surfable wave came along.Almost immediately he was up on his board and along with all the others heading north back towards where they had come from. After an hour or so he could see what looked like land in the distance. He kept going strongly until without any warning a large cruise ship appeared in front of him. Not wanting to appear foolish Len steered his board around the back of the ship, slowed down a bit, avoided the propellers, did a 180 degree in front of the few people watching, got a round of applause and kept going all the way back to the Mornington Peninsular.
