~ The Great Cleansing ~

After breakfast Jimmy stood and addressed his “family.” Freshly baked sugar cookies on sheets of wax paper covered all the flat areas in the kitchen and the rich aroma hung thick in the air like a blanket of warm, sweet butter. Jimmy said, “Everybody is invited, which means expected, to help decorate and ice the Christmas cookies because there are a shitload of them. There are blue, yellow, and white icings. We have sprinkles and those little silver balls. What are they called, Cuz?”

“Little silver balls,” Corrine answered.

“Of course. So your inner artists are welcome to express themselves. Now I’m not saying that you have to help decorate the cookies. Only if you want to eat them.”

“Why don’t we just do it now?” asked Shewuma. There was a murmur of agreement all around.

Daniel spoke up. “Corrine and I are going hunting for a buck today. Anyone else interested?”

Shewuma jumped up in her seat. “I haven’t been hunting for so long. Yes. Please.”

Debbie, David E., and Dermott declined for their own reasons. Jimmy looked interested but backed off after a pointedly restraining glance from Corrine. “How about 11:00?” said Daniel.

“I’ll be ready,” said Shewuma.

Looking curiously at his first cousin, Jimmy offered, “I’ll make you guys some sandwiches with the leftover ham to take with you.” Perhaps sharing Shewuma’s personal history with his cousin was too much, too soon. Since Jimmy’s earliest life memories Corrine was always there. His best friend, compadre, more of a sister than a cousin. What was it the New-Age books called it? Twin Flames. Two halves of the same soul. If not for being first cousins, they would probably have been lovers. That’s why he was relatively sure Corrine had ulterior motives.

“Thanks Cuz,” she replied, oblivious to his questioning leer.

The cookie decorating went extraordinarily well, partly due to the two joints that were circulating during the project. They ended up with four large Tupperware containers full of cookies. Enough even for a household that included perpetually hungry Alien/Human Hybrids.

At 10:50, Jimmy stopped Corrine heading out the back door for their hunting safari and gave her a bag of lunch goodies. “I’m always on your side, Baby Doll.”

“I know,” said Corrine, looking puzzled.

“Don’t start something you’ll regret. I don’t think she would sleep with you and Daniel anyway,” he said, concerned.

“No, Jimmy,” she laughed. “It’s nothing nefarious. Daniel saw her practicing with her bow. We both shoot well, but she is crazy good. He just wants to see if she shoots that well with it in the real world.”

“Okay. I just know how competitive and carnally curious you are. And just for the record, you will be stunned by what she can do.” She left him feeling better but still holding onto a touch of disbelief. He should have never told her about Shewuma’s penchant for three ways.

Daniel led the women through the woods for more than two hours. They climbed a small hill and were nearly to the top when he suggested they rest and eat a ham sandwich. Corrine was in but Shewuma held her hand up for silence and inhaled deeply. She whispered to the other two, “There’s a buck over that ridge, maybe three hundred yards.”

Daniel looked at her like she was crazy. “How…?” He started to speak but Corinne quieted him with a finger to her lips. Apparently Shewuma could smell it, just like Jimmy had smelled that gang boy hiding in the duck blind. It was a Hybrid thing. They gently crept up to the top of the hill and peered over the edge.

“There,” pointed Wu. A huge twelve-point buck, maybe three hundred pounds. Easily three hundred yards away in a field in the valley. Ears up, he was moving forward slowly and intermittently. “He’s wary,” whispered Wu.

“We’ll never get down there without him spotting us,” said Daniel.

“I’ll take him now,” said Shewuma.

“You’re not serious?” Daniel whispered. “I couldn’t hit him from here with my 30-06. You have a bow.”

Shewuma went to one knee. She nocked her arrow and drew it. Aiming directly at the slowly moving buck, she raised her bow a touch and led the target. Looking at Corrine, Daniel shook his head, mouthing the words, “No way.” With a woosh the arrow soared. About three seconds later the buck fell. Not moving, it looked dead. They followed Wu down the hill as best they could. She moved over the rocks and brush with a speed and grace they’d never witnessed before.

When Daniel and Corrine reached the kill, Wu was already twisting and removing the arrow. Daniel was beside himself. “That was fucking amazing, Shewuma. I couldn’t have hit that with my rifle. A perfect shot to the heart.”

“Unbelievable shot, Shewuma,” said Corrine. “You want to dress him yourself?”

“Of course,” said Wu.

“Can you teach me to shoot like that?” asked Daniel.

Corrine said, “Me too.”

Wu smiled, “I don’t see why not.” Then she lay her hands on the buck’s neck and said a prayer of thanks in her native tongue to the buck and to the Earth Mother. Not knowing the language but understanding what was happening, Corrine and Daniel both bowed their heads in respect. It was the first time they had ever witnessed a moment like that hunting and it touched them deeply. Shewuma pulled her Hopi bone knife and dressed the deer faster than they thought possible. Within two minutes, the carcass was empty and ready to go. The innards lay on the ground in a pile.

“Want me to bury those guts?” asked Daniel.

“No,” said Wu. “That’s good eating for a lot of forest folk.”

“Okay,” said Daniel, nodding in agreement. “Do you want to hang it and come back with the three-wheeler? Or we can make a litter and take turns pulling it.”

“It’s okay. I got it,” said Wu. She threw the buck carcass over her shoulders and around her neck like a shawl.

“Alright then,” said Daniel. “Let’s go. You sure you don’t need any help?” It was the first time he had witnessed her Hybrid strength.

“No thanks. I’m good,” Wu assured him.

They were heading back past Choctaw boundaries and onto Corrine’s property when Shewuma stopped and spun to the side. All was quiet but she seemed alarmed. After her experiences with Wu so far, Corrine chambered a bullet automatically. Daniel followed her lead and put his 30-06 in play. “Wait,” said Shewuma. “Whatever happens. Do. Not. Shoot.”

They agreed, but they kept their weapons ready. For several seconds Daniel and Corrine heard nothing and began to wonder. Then, heading their way they heard crashing, crunching sounds through the heavy brush. “Oh, my God!” said Corrine.

“Stay calm,” said Wu.

A giant Sasquatch stepped into view and walked up within a few feet of them. He was easily eight feet tall. Muscular and hairy, with huge feet. The odor from him was revolting. Intelligent eyes but animal vibes. It was a classic Bigfoot encounter. Daniel and Corrine were awestruck.

“Put your guns down,” said Wu and they lowered the rifles. Shewuma slung the deer carcass to the ground and made the symbol of her people, then spoke in her native language. “I am Shewuma. Kachina of the Hopi Nation. Star Child of the Realm of Man. I am honored by your presence.” She lowered her head. Despite their incredulity, Corrine and Daniel did the same.

Bigfoot spoke to their minds telepathically. “I am Custos of the Sasquatch clan. You are known to me, White Bird. I have heard your name from the Errans and the Greys. The lore of your deeds is notable. I knew your Husband Enoch.”

“You knew Enoch?” asked Wu, surprised.

The beast spoke aloud in English. His voice was low and harsh. “We were allies. We slew many Nephilim and Anunnaki together in the time of The Great Cleansing.”

Shewuma picked up the buck and held it toward him. “Custos, I would like to offer you our kill so we may share the bounty of Mother Earth.”

Custos reached down and ripped a hind quarter off the haunches. “You are as generous and handsome as I was told. But your scent and the scent of the humans is off-putting. I have come to warn you of imminent danger and to let you know that I am yours if you need me. You’re hunted by many. NASA II, Men-in-Black, Greys, and the Evil One. They seek the Sanctum and your death. Be on your guard. All is not what it seems.”

Shewuma swung the deer back around her neck. “I am honored by your concern and warnings.” She wondered if she should risk touching him.

As if he knew her thoughts he said, “You wish to feel my soul. I know you have this gift.” And he held out his hand.

Seeing him reach for Wu, Corrine’s reaction was to raise her rifle. Wu pushed it down. “My comrades don’t understand. But they mean you no harm.”

“I know who they are and they are tolerable for humans,” he replied.

Wu touched Custos hand and was filled with his strength, his sorrow and his deep truth. She saw him leave but to the others, he just disappeared.

“Where did he go?” said Daniel. Wu started walking and they followed behind her chattering excitedly about the experience. They still couldn’t believe it. When the trail opened into Corrine’s back yard, the dogs ran to them barking, howling and sniffing them with suspicion. Daniel told Wu if she wanted to put the deer on the table by the barn, he would take care of it. “I figure you want to talk to Debbie right away about the Bigfoot.”

Wu tossed the buck on the table and headed to the house. She spoke to Debbie immediately, who then called everyone telepathically to the great room. When all were there, she stood and turned off the TV and stereo with the Alien Blue Crystal computer chip embedded in her brain. “Shewuma, Corrine, and Daniel had an encounter with a Sasquatch today. Your show, Wu.” And she sat down.

They waited eagerly on the sectional couch for Shewuma to speak. She paced slowly as she described the beast and told them everything that was said, word for word.

“He knew Enoch?” said Debbie in awe. Wu nodded.

“And why are the Greys looking for you?” asked Jimmy.

“I don’t know. I’ve been around a while,” was the best she could offer.

Daniel asked, “What was The Great Cleansing?”

“My question as well,” said Dermott.

“That’s what Aliens call The Great Flood,” said David E.

“You don’t mean the flood from the Bible?” said Corrine.

David E. felt skepticism rise from the humans like a fog and he passed on the question. “Debbie, do you want to take this?”

“Y’all probably wouldn’t believe it,” she said.

“No, come on,” encouraged Corrine. Daniel and Dermott nodded eagerly.

Debbie took a pause. Why not. She told them the legend of The Great Cleansing. “The Earth was, let’s say run, by multiple races of Aliens a long time ago. They divided the planet up amongst themselves for its natural resources. Needing laborers, they took the indigenous life on Earth, added some DNA, performed some genetic alterations, and created us.”

“What do you mean us?” said Daniel.

“Humans. As we are now.”

“Wait,” said Daniel. But Corrine stopped him and told him to let Debbie tell the story and ask questions after.

Debbie continued. “Because of its rich and plentiful resources, there was a vicious war between many Alien factions for control of this planet. Earth was nearly obliterated. But cooler heads prevailed and the Alien races formed a treaty to share the planet’s bounty. The electromagnetic ley lines of Earth were used as boundaries to separate their claims. The more prominent races were the Errans, Drachonians, Anunnaki, Nephilim, Greys, and Blue Elbrines. They all needed workers. Cheap labor if you will. With their advanced DNA technology they created many new species all over the Earth. Some for workers like humans, Sasquatches, dwarves, and giants. Some as experiments. Camels, dolphins, werewolves, and dragons. Some just for fun. Ever seen a duck-billed platypus?”

Dermott raised his hand and asked, “Miss Debbie, can I ask what the workers were supposed to be doing?”

“Sure,” said Debbie. “Mining. Gold, silver, mercury, and quartz crystal mostly. Those are elements that Earth is rich with, and the Aliens need them in vast quantities for their Dark Matter technologies to function. But man’s special skill was his ability to adapt. We grew, evolved, began to go our own way. Some of the Aliens decided to recognize us as having a claim to our own destinies. Some didn’t. One of the oldest and most commanding races, the Anunnaki, wanted to reassert their dominance. They were pissed off because their own slave race, the powerful Sasquatch, were in open rebellion. Things were different then. Alien technology had free reign on the Earth. So the Anunnaki concocted a plan with the loathsome Nephilim race to put their Sasquatch, the humans and the other Aliens back in their place.

“Nephilim. Fallen angels from the Bible?” whispered Daniel. Corrine gave him a silencing elbow.

“A strategy of global floods and earthquakes combined with slave genocide and strategic assassinations of the Alien leaders would put the Anunnaki in complete control of Earth as it had once been in the beginning. What they didn’t account for was the Sight of the race called Errans.”

“Shewuma’s dead husband,” said Corinne.

“Yes,” said Debbie. “And the progenitor of my DNA. Many years before the Anunnaki even made their plan, the Errans, known regionally as the Nordic Pleiadians, had seen it coming and prepared. They put in place a system that would interrupt the dominating Annunaki technology and allow humans to create their own world and future. It was the thirteen Blue Quartz Crystal Skull Computers, the Sancti. An assembly of super computers organically programed and telepathically linked to the Errans themselves. Capable of suppressing Dark Matter energy with a dampening field, thus neutralizing Alien technology and the Annunaki weapons of war throughout this solar system. The Anunnaki plan of attack and the Erran countermeasures happened almost simultaneously. The floods and earthquakes couldn’t be stopped and were devastating. But thanks to the Blue Crystal Skulls, the Anunnaki and Nephilim were forced to go to war without their advanced Alien weaponry. They were quickly defeated by a coalition of Errans, Sasquatch and Mantids using a more advanced version of the same technology that we humans use today. The Anunnaki and their allies, were rounded up and executed by the Sancti caretakers and the Sasquatch enforcers. The threat of the Annunaki and the Nephilim was no more. Man could now develop and evolve naturally.”

Daniel bypassed Corrine’s orders, stood up and spoke, “So let’s assume this is true, which I’m inclined to believe since I met a rational, talking, Sasquatch today. What’s the problem?”

David E. answered. “Debbie has the Sanctum. The thirteenth Blue Crystal Skull. It programs the others. Debbie is its Keeper now. There are bad Aliens out there that want it.”

There was silence for a moment. Then Corrine stood up and said, “Well I saw a fucking Sasquatch today, face to face bitches.” Everyone burst into laughter.

“That’s a hell of a story,” Daniel said to Jimmy.

“Yeah,” said Jimmy. “This is the first I’ve heard of a lot of this.”

Shewuma stood and declared, “WHO WANTS COOKIES!”

Jim, this story was wildly entertaining—like a holiday family reunion hosted by X-Files and spiced with weed, sugar cookies, and ancient alien lore. The mix of humor, heart, and high strangeness kept me hooked the whole way through. One line that really stuck with me was: “You wish to feel my soul. I know you have this gift.” That moment was surprisingly touching amidst all the madness, and gave Custos some beautiful depth. I loved how Shewuma held her own from beginning to end—between her supernaturally perfect shot and calm encounter with Sasquatch, she felt like a total legend. And the chaotic, loving energy between the cousins added a ton of charm. Great balance of irreverence and world-building here.

Thanks Mary. You spoil me. Corrine is based on my real cousin. She died 3 years ago from cancer. I still miss her every day.
Hey. COOKIES!
