The city was covered in a thick layer of pollution and blinded by the lights of the night. The air grew colder every day as winter approached. The sound of the city did very little to distract Alvina from her immense failure tonight at the audition. She had hoped that tonight would be her big breakthrough; however, her voice cracked, and she tripped over her feet more than she liked to admit. She’s seen countless people make it big, from the stage to simple video apps. If she couldn’t make it on the stage, perhaps on an app. She pulled out her phone to check the views on her page, and they set closer to zero than anything she had hoped.
She bundled herself up in her jacket, wrapping her scarf around her neck many times as she hurried down the sidewalk. Hoping to catch the last train, she paid very little attention to her surroundings. She quickly approached the entrance to the subway, but as she turned to head down, she heard a song, or it could have even been an instrument; she couldn’t tell. She often heard people performing on street corners or by the subway, but there was something different about this one. It was almost like a whisper, as if it was only for her ears. She looked around and saw that she was the only one out and about tonight. Even though a night like tonight would typically cause her to be frightened, the song gave her a sense of peace, and she couldn’t help but be drawn to it.
Ignoring the instinct to continue on her way, she decided to follow the song. She turned down a dimly lit street and then into a dark alley, where, just in the distance, she could make out a figure who hummed softly. Alvina walked closer to the figure in the song that captivated her. She could tell that the man was tall and quite slim. As she got closer, she could see that they were also good-looking, as if they were a model. ‘A good voice and a body to match it, what a catch,’ she thought. She was only a couple of feet away when the humming stopped. The tall, slim, handsome man took a step closer to her.
“Hello, my name is Vesper. I assume my song drew you in? Seems like you have excellent taste,” Vesper said in a deep, rich voice. Alvina nodded as she couldn’t find her voice. “Well then, you have quite talent for music. If I’m not mistaken, that stunning performance was you recently on stage, wasn’t it? Remind me what’s your captivating name?” Vesper said, bewitching Alvina with the way he paraded himself as he spoke. Without hesitation, she said, “Alvina Earlse, and yes, that was me. My dream is to be famous.” Vesper was ecstatic at hearing her reply, “Alvina Earlse, I have an irresistible deal just for you. As a seasoned booking agent and manager to some of the biggest stars, I see extraordinary potential in you. It would be my absolute pleasure to help you turn your dreams into reality.” he said ecstatically.
It didn’t take much for Alvina to agree, and before she knew it, she was on her way to the top. She had a new social media account and appearance, which Vesper now oversaw. It only took a week for her to go from being a nobody to one of the most famous performers in the world. Her days were filled with TV interviews, live performances, and promoting her social media account. To her, a one-bedroom flat turned into a penthouse almost overnight. No matter where she went, everyone knew her name and loved her. " Remember, my dear, to indulge in this luxurious cream and enchanting perfume every night. When you dress in your exquisite outfits, don’t forget that perfect accessory—it’s your secret to staying irresistible. And darling, I’ve arranged a special show for you back in my hometown—just a little something to give back to the wonderful people you know. Rest up, sweetheart—we’re leaving in the morning. Good night Alvina Earlse,” Vesper said.
The next morning, she bathed in her perfume and was dressed in the finest outfit she had ever seen. Alvina and Vesper headed down to the ground floor, where they stepped inside a limo. " No need to worry, darling. This will smoothly guide us right to our destination.,” he said. Alvina was not worried at all. After all, she got everything she ever wanted. Never had to want for anything ever again. When she was hungry, there was food; when she was hot, Vesper fanned her himself. She sat back in her seat and let her eyes close as a limo continued to their destination.
When Alvina opened her eyes, she was quite surprised to see the limo driving down a small country road surrounded by greenery. Trees on either side of the road stretched far into the sky, creating an arch. She looked over to Vesper, smiling and humming a song to himself. Within a moment, Alvina felt a strange sensation wash over her, and a bright light blinded her. When her senses returned to normal, she looked around to see their bizarre surroundings. “Vesper? What is going on? This isn’t where we came from?” Alvina said as she stared out the window at the giant trees that resembled buildings and the strange people waving at her. Vesper Set quietly smiled to himself as he looked out the window and back at her.
The limo, now transformed into something resembling a carriage, circled around one of the trees as it stretched far into the sky. Alvina watched as more of the strange people gathered closer to the tree and on the branches. “Vesper?” She said quietly, pleading, “Please, what is going on?” Vesper moved closer to her as he said, “My dear, this is exactly what you wished for. It’s exactly what you agreed to when you gave me your name. Alvina Earlse, you never mentioned where you’d like to be famous, but here in Fairyland with me, your dreams can come true.” Alvina was silent as she couldn’t find the words to express herself. A million different emotions ran through her head that night when she first met Vesper. ‘what did I exactly sign up for?’ She thought. Vesper continued, his voice giving her a sense of calm, “Remember, you had almost nothing before. You were cold, hungry, and alone. But now you can stay with me and you can perform forever and everyone will know your name, you never be alone again, Alvina Earlse.”
