Kids

Lucy Dash was sittin on her couch once again,

Waiting for something fun that never seemed to begin.

“if she only had a pool like Lisa and Joan,

Or A new bike to ride or her very own phone

Everyday just dragged on as she sat in wallow,

Knowing there’d be more boredom tomorrow

Suddenly a scurry went tippity tap outside on the grass

Lucy went out to look, but she’d turn her head and it would pass

“Yoo hoo, yoo hoo, looking for something to do?”

“Well come and find me if you can, before I jump out and say boo”

“Am I across the grass, maybe at the top of the slide?”

“Am I short and tiny? Maybe tall and wide?”

“Maybe I blend in with the tree so you can’t find me”

“Maybe I’m steady as a rock or faster than a bee”

Suddenly Lucy looked up in shock as she heard a call,

A tiny old man with a cane atop a  tree 20 feet tall

HIs skin blue as a berry, but his beard clean and white,

A suit as red as an apple, he slouched tiny and slight

A bizarre sight to see, about that there’s no doubt

To see his cane help him float from the tree when he jumped out

Or seeing him bounce around the yard not like an old man should do,

Not even like a young man, more like a kangaroo

“Why aren’t you playing girl, are you stuck to your seat?”

“Maybe your legs are sleeping, maybe you had a fight with your feet?”

“Maybe this seat is the portal to magic sugar plum land?”

“Where you swim in chocolate milk and lay on the cookie crumb sand”

Lucy looked at this curious, funny old fellow

Nothing to say, not who are you? Not even a hello

“Why so curious? I’m just your average old, blue man”

“Allow me to introduce myself,” he began

“Mr. Egger Phin from the land  Benaneyjo,

“Why are you here?” Lucy asked, as he bounced to and fro

“I’ve come to find the adventure that lays in this land”

“Would you like to help me search, give me a hand?”

Lucy said “I don’t know who sent you, or where this person lives”

“But if they sent you here for fun, they don’t know what fun is?”

“This is not a land of adventure, danger or mystery”

“If it was then I’m afraid that is ancient history”

I’m sure there’s fun to be had, we just have to peruse

I’ve made this bet before, and I never lose

There’s fun to be had in every world, every day

A swing to be swung or a game you can play

My friend you should continue to look elsewhere

Go to Emily’s house, she’s got everything there

Go bounce with your cane into her exotic yard,

Then you’ll see that understanding my point is not hard

Look at these outdoors, no point in going out and playing

Take look around, you must see what I’m saying

Look at the emptiness, you don’t seem a fool

Do you see a diving board to splash into a pool?

No tennis court to run on, no horse to ride

Just one creaky old swing, and the world’s slowest slide

But Egger kept bouncing, as he was on a mission,

There’s a bottle of fun here somewhere, this girl was missing

Sir, I’m telling you, this place is just a bore,

Nothing exciting to come, no surprises in store,

Like a plant with no sun I’ll sit here and rot

So if you want me to cheer up, sir I will not

“Hm, I must say young lady, that it does concern me,”

“And I feel as though you may need a little journey”

“Hop along with me, if you feel you can take it,”

“And you can learn that fun doesn’t happen, you make it”

“See I have journeyed from here to there,”

“From Ladelville to Shacoodfair”

I’ve played boopaball with the hoopas, what a wild game

You haven’t tried to wrestle a boopa from a hoopa? What a shame

I’ve been to Bershiver, a giant ice cube, sounds like a stink

till you get to sled to work everyday, and your bedroom’s an ice rink

“Still a doubter? Come on a trip to be a believer”

“Feel like walking there? No? Good, me neither”

“Grab a hold of my cane, hold on tight don’t let go”

“Or you’ll miss all the amazing things I have to show”

Their first stop was Lolliluck, dark as can be

No ground to stand on, just a bunch of floating trees

“Think these Lolluckers mind they can’t walk on the ground?

“No, all day they can jump tree to tree and swing around”

“Look at Louie Lolluck, to him this problem isn’t dire”

“Today he’ll try and jump further, and tomorrow he’ll climb higher”

“Or the roundaroos, their world rolls all day like a ball”

“They hold onto the side till they get to the top and fall”

“No, maybe its not the world they would have planned”

“But they love to fall and see who has the craziest ways to land”

“Or the Dizzertons, their ground spins 100 times every third minute”

“This making you feel dizzy? Happens to everyone in it”

“But no they don’t cry, they don’t huff puff and whine”

“When it stops spinning they see who can run furthest in a straight line”

“How bout hoopdavile? Not like any town you know

“Where the roads go in loopdiloops everywhere you go”

They used to wish their world was like yours, or at least closer

Till they decided to turn their cars into rollercoasters

No boring car rides for them, every trip is a thrill,

Starting to see my point? Don’t worry you will

How about the people of Dogville, seem peculiar?

Yes, what you see is right, not some silly humor

The dogs are bigger than the people, 10 times their size

Tiny Joseph doesn’t mind, cause he just won the fetch playing prize

Or the people of saucero where it rains ketchup and mustard,

Is there a crazier thing you have ever heard of?

But what a place to live, and before you start your laughter,

Have you ever been in a rainstorm that you could eat after?

He took her to all different lands, some big and some small,

But he showed her that she could find smiles in all,

Then with a snap of his finger and wave of his cane,

They were back in her yard, to see if she’d still complain.

“Here we are little lady, back in your home safe and sound”

“If you’d like you can put back that angry frown”

“Go back to stomping around like you’re squashing a bug”

“Or fold your arms tight like you’re giving yourself an angry hug”

But this excited little man, as out there as he may seem,

Did open her eyes, like she had just had a dream

“You may be zany and cooky but I think I know what you meant,

And it got clearer and clearer the more places they went

No place is without flaw, no life is all joy

Nobody has it perfect,  no girl or boy

No Dizzerton no lolluck, no loopdillo or Benanyjo

Nobody has it perfect, no matter how far you go
