Fiction

In another galaxy much like our own. On a planet similar to earth, where heroes are in abundance and life is easier, there lived a special boy. He lived in a small town with a few low-key heroes. The big heroes normally stayed near the big cities. On planet Dracor the sun was red, the sky pink, the trees where purple and blue surrounded by a lavender grass

The boy, Cory, was from a normal family with no history of heroes in the family ever. Cory had no illusions of one day becoming a hero as his friends did. Cory in fact hated the heroes. If the heroes lived everywhere his parents would still be alive. Cory's parents died in a burglary gone bad. They had had plans to be out of town for the holidays but they had missed their flight. When the men broke into the house George and Lex had gone to see what was going on and were shot down in their living room. The gun shots had woken Cory up. He had hidden in his room for three days before the police found him there. As he went through counseling to cope with the death of his parents, Cory’s very rich aunt Jean took him in. She lived in very small town but it was extremely exclusive. He lived with his aunt Jean in Saint Marieisville for five years. He lived by a code treating everyone equally and always being there to help if needed. He wasn’t a hero but everywhere he went he spread happiness. Cory grew to be a strong, tall man but he suffered greatly inside always feeling alone, left out, and he felt everything he did was not good enough. No one seemed to understand him. Through his counseling he was found that Cory was a hero, for a long time this did not sit well with him. How could he be a hero now that it was too late to save his parents. One day while Cory was out about in his village, he heard someone call for help. And as a hero does he rush to aid the person but as he came upon the person a large beam fell onto his head. He did manage to throw the person away from the danger before he fell to the ground. The building around him now burning hotly around Cory, as he lays unconscious under the beam. Another hero rushes in to save Cory. She is wearing a red mask and a leotard outfit. She quickly removed the heavy beam and grunting she picked up Cory’s solid frame dragging him outside into the fresh night air. The night air is filled with the screams of Erin, Cory’s lifelong best friend. She runs to Cory, falling on his chest crying. “Please Cory wake up!” she cried shaking him hard as she could. The hero slowly backed away leaving before she could be demasked. Erin's crying attracted the attention of the medical team. Who rushed into action to help Cory. Cory being the only hero in the area that did not hide his identity was a very important and loved figured in the small community. So, of course everyone was going to do their best to save Cory. Almost the whole town was squeezed into the er lobby when the nurse came out to inform everyone that Cory was finally awake. Everyone cheered happy that Cory was going to be okay. The nurse went to Cory’s aunt Jean and pulled her into the corridor “I am very sorry ma’am. I didn’t think you would hear me in the lobby with everyone being loud. Cory is ok he is awake and nothing is wrong except.......” the nurse trailed off looking down at the ground “yes? Except what” Jean pressed the nurse to continue. “he has no memory of who he is.” a tear rolled down the nurses cheek. Aunt Jean gasps shocked “What do you mean he has no memory of who he is?” trying to decide how best to explain she quickly decides “he knows things like how to read and he knows that I am a nurse. He doesn’t however know his name or mine. He asked when his parents would be here to get him.” tears filling her eyes Jean looks at the nurse confused “his parents have been dead for three years now. When can I see him?” she asks feverently pushing past the nurse. Jean runs up and down the corridor calling for Cory. He steps out of his room looking at his aunt Jean “Can I help you ma’am?” he asks her smiling, a look on his face that she had never seen before. “oh Cory,” she cried wrapping her arms around his large frame. She smiled as she hugged him happy that he was safe and not hurt. “I’m here now Cory everything will be alright” she whispered as tears rolled down her face. “Ma’am are you alright?” he asks confused “I will help you if I can but I am not sure what it is you need” Cory says as he holds his aunt Jean not knowing who she is. After a night of observation Cory went home with his Aunt Jean. The doctors had said he was ok and healthy, but no one knew when or even if Cory would ever remember. After a few weeks of trying to help Cory remember Jean realized that him forgetting might have been for the best. He had no sad memories but he was still himself. Kind and helpful to everyone. The facts were nothing had changed about Cory. He was still a big part of the community he just did not remember people’s names. He still acted the same except for one thing. He longer felt sad all the time and it showed on his face when he would smile. When the beam had hit Cory and caused his amensia it seemed all he had forgotten were people’s names and how to be depressed. No longer did he dwell on the small mistakes that he made. Now he could see all the wonder in the world that he helped to keep safe
