"The sea...
That blue huge water is my life.
It is something that I admire and it dangerously loves me back.
You can't let go of something you love, even if it is something that can drag you to your perdition" The old man walked slowly towards the rock ahead of him, he sat down and took his hook throwing it out to the sea, it seemed like he had thrown his heart with that metallic stuff waiting for someone to get him.
Let's stop reading right at that dot and wonder what those lines are trying to tell us. Why does he want someone to get his heart? Does he feel lonely? Does he want to manipulate them as he does while catching fish? Or was he talking about the sea instead of a real someone?
The old man looked at the huge salty water pool in front of him, he always loved that view, he loved the peaceful feeling that breeze sent all the way down his spine, he loved that sound of the waves hitting the surface.
However, he knew that behind this peaceful and positive mask, exists a dangerous beast behind it. To be honest, he hated that part of the sea because he had known exactly what happens when the ocean becomes mad, he was afraid of the sea raging at him so he decided to stay out of the blue playground for the rest of his life, that's what he thought.
"The sea is like a human being, it is difficult to understand, filled with emotions, always moody, is mostly peaceful, is frequently dangerous.
They are both full of surprises that nobody could expect. But they both have the same thing in common which is they both have two faces" the old man mumbled.
As the common says 'never trust the ocean'. Who said that must have been through a lot during their life sailing from a part of the sea to another. No doubts why people feel afraid of the see, no matter how much it looks peaceful and not harmful, they wouldn't trust it. But at the same time, they like to be around this untrustworthy salty water.
Without forgetting, the sea has also a side of emotions like a mother to her child. How many creatures live under that water? Hundreds? Thousands? Millions? Or even Billions? He doesn't know, but he was sure that this huge blue place was their home, their oxygen, their place, and they definitely belong to that dangerous beautiful place, it gave them love, food and care, it also wants to keep them safe just like what a mother wants to her little child. So no surprise that those under-sea creatures want to go back to where they born.
His eyes focused on the far distance of the ocean, he wondered if the sea was mad again at somebody somewhere on this planet, he didn't like the idea so he decided to move his eyes to the sky, there were some seagulls fluttering their wings smoothly above the blue ground, the old man watched as they danced here and there. Suddenly, he noticed one of them flying lower and lower towards the water, he watched as the bird kept searching for something, or to be specific, for food.
In a blink of eye, its beak splashed the water before it went back flying to follow its kind but not without the dying fish in its mouth. The old man watched as the swarm flew away towards the distance he was afraid of going back to, he then kept thinking about the previous two minutes he watched, just as like he wants the food this sea offers, some other creatures feel the same, he thought that humans and these creatures have the same thing in common which was risking their lives for the sake of living.
So risks are worth it.
The old man finally stood up and closed his eyes letting, the once again, peaceful breeze hit his skin sending a refreshing feeling, but this time instead of enjoying the peace surrounding the weather around him, he decided he would go back to where he was meant to be, no more fears, no more doubts, no more lies.
He certainly loved the ocean but couldn't deny his own fear of the beast that sleeps within. However despite his worries and fears, he found confidence and determination inside his heart, so he slowly left the place he once had always admired to come to, he left his hook hanging in the rock as if he let go of everything he had at that time but he was sure that this day was the day he was born.
"The day he was born" I finished reading the last words a bit louder, I could feel that my own book changed my life, psychologically made me think about my fears and dreams again and see how ridiculous my fears would seem in front of what could this old man have faced during his career in the center of the sea, I smiled at myself and hoped if my first book would of helped others the same way it did to its own writer. Suddenly my phone rang so I picked it up and answered the call.
"Hello?"
"Are you Miss Sofia?" the voice from the other line asked.
"Yes" I nodded though they couldn't see me which I silently face palmed for.
"We are the publishing company that you sent your book to and we want to inform you that your first book has made a successful influence so we want to help you publish your book as wide as possible"
Speechless was how I felt. In disbelief I continued the conversation and hung up the phone, I couldn't help the small tears from dropping down my face as a wide smile found its way towards my face. Thanks to that old man, I was able to overcome my main fear and this day was indeed
The day I was born.
