looking back Sandra have no more courage to stay with Dave and a final goodbye is the last on her mind in the house on the Hillview farm
she gently closes the small old oak door behind her
walking down the street hoping not see Evette the sweet bitter neighbour
helllloooooo!
Sandra pretends not to hear Evette, but the grey headed lady swiftly opens her small blue and yellow wooden gate and stands like a tea pot in the middle of the road
and where are you off to so early in the morning; " not that is any of my business"
oh, hello Evette; I'm off to the shop to buy you a broom to fly..... "almost thinking out loud"
Uhmmm I'm taking a vacation at my aunt's in Port Elizabeth for a week
Oh I haven't seen the poor soul for a while, but send my regards to her
Let me not keep you then dear! Off you go now
Sandra rushes to the bus and hope she is not too late, but as she crosses the street a car from the left lane speed and knocks her from the side
Sandra lands on her back and the car comes to a stop
People rushes to the scene and starts mubling amongst each other
Is she dead Sylvia asks
Raymond step in between the crowd and lift her arm to feel her pulse; she is still alive. Did anyone called an ambulance
At the hospital nurses are over tired and Valne is in duty
Good morning Mr Tall
How is my favourite patient today
The patient looks grumpy this morning and is not in any mood for a chat
Valne checks his pulse and looks on the chart for any changes in medication, but the situation of Mr Andrew condition remains the same
Sister Lateacia comes with a cup of coffee and places it on the side table next to Mr Andrews bed
No changes Valne
Still the same here. He was hit by a car while driving on his bicycle
Emergency coming through!
Sister Merle is rushing to the front and checks the chart of the paramedics
She takes over and runs down the passage with Sandra
Valne, Evette and Merle is examining the patient and the three works like a team before the chart is completed
We have an amnesia patient Evette
Evette looks at the chart and ask Valne to push the patient in ward number two
Weeks later Sandra still don't know who she is or where she comes from. She cannot remember the accident at all
She gently place her left foot on the cold floor and then the right foot. Slowly she slips her feet into soft silky blue morning slippers the nurse gave her days ago
She walks down the passage to the garden where she sits in a bench for a while trying to remember her name or at least a family member or a phone number, but none of that comes to her head
I see you are making a habit to come to this bench
Oh it's you again, what do you want
Mr Tall smiles at her and observes her hazel eyes and long blond hair
She is so beautiful
So go find yourself a bench and leave me alone
If you can tell me your name then I will go away
Sandra looks at him with big hazel eyes, hoping it would scare him away, but little in life scares this attractive tall and handsome man
Sandra stares over the green grass and feels a drop falling on her face
It's beginning to rain; come let's hurry in
Tall and Sandra jumps up and runs to the door, but in the process slips and falls with her head against the glass door
The reception sees the accident and rushes to the couple
Nurse! Nurse! Help!
Valne who is on her way to the cafeteria hears the screaming and runs to the door
What happened Macy
I think they were trying to run because of the rain, but she slipped on the slippery tiles bumping her head
After a thourough examination they are taken back to their beds
Sandra feels her head and stops for a second before she gets on her bed
"I'm Sandra" Sandra Bower
I'm Sandra Bower! I remember who I am
A car knocked me in the main street on Fourth Avenue and I left Dave to stay with Cecelia in Port Elizabeth
What is wrong with you; get on the bed
You just had another bad bump to the head
Mind your own business "Mr think he is handsome"
Oh just shut up and get on your bed
Merle brings their afternoon snack and a cup of tea
How do you feel Miss Blonde as she is called in the hospital
I'm feeling a bit dizzy but I'm okay nurse
Good. Just take it easy and watch your steps next time;
Should I tell the nurse that I remember who I am
No I am not telling them yet
Dave comes home and notice a note on the coffee table
"Dave our journey has come to an end. I am no longer inlove with you and therefore I am hoping you can forgive me. The one with you has been an uphill challenge for me. It has taken it's toll on my life. I am start fresh on my own and I hope you can do the same"
Sandra
Dave puts the letter on the table and walks to his bedroom
The house is quiet; so you leaving me
You better not come back to me
Mr Tall how are you feeling today
Tall pretends to be asleep and Valne turns to Sandra and smiles
You are discharged but we do not know whom we can call to fetch you
The doctor says that you are in good health to be discharged
Sandra looks at Mr Tall and he quickly closes his eyes
She smiles at Valne
That is good to hear, but where will I go
I will speak to Evette and see if we can arrange something to assist you
Sandra closes her eyes after Valne left her bed
She needs to think of a plan, because she don't feel the visit to Cecelia anylonger
Mr Tall is sleeping and a strange dream awakes him
What is wrong?
"Oh mind your own business blonde"
You look like you saw a ghost
Yes you are the ghost
Evette is on duty and is busy with her rounds
I have some good news Mr Andrews
You are going home on Friday
Should I call anyone to cone fetch you
No nurse; I can manage on my own
Sandra is worried as she lost all her belongings in the accident
She has nobody to turn to for a bus ticket and clothing
She get off from her bed and walks down the passage
Andrews follows her to her favourite bench
Do you have a place to go to when you leave the hospital
She looks at him and a warm feeling suddenly appears through her veins; what is happening to me
Uhmm not sure yet
She rubs the back of her hands against her cheeks and suddenly realizes that she have feelings for this handsome tall man standing over her
Go find yourself a bench please
You are blocking the sun
He takes a seat next to her
You can come and stay with me until you remembers who you are
I can place an article with your picture in the paper and see the response
Oh you must be joking to think I will go with you "Mr don't know you"
Oh well, then stay here and let the staff place you in a hostel
He gets up and slowly walks to the pond to watch the gold fishes instead
She finally gets up and walks back to her ward
She get on he bed and stares through the window where she sees Andrews
I have fallen inlove!
I want to go with him!
Sandra finally forgotten about Dave
Andrews walks back to his bed and plans to take a warm shower before supper is served
If only she knows how I'm feeling
I have never felt so strong about someone since Liz died four years ago
Cancer was not expected and her passing was too soon
How do I tell her that I'm inlove with her mother?
Stephanie laughs;
"Oh you are like your father; always late for everything, even your own funeral" Just do not rush my son
It's Friday and Andrews is ready to go home
Finally I'm going home!
Sandra sits in the lounge and pretends to read a book, but the words printed is Andrews Andrews Andrews Andrews
He stops in the passage and smiles at her
Oh please leave now!
First say that you are going to miss me
I'm your dreams!
He laughs at her as he places his left hand at his forehead; saluting her on his way out
She stares at him as he walks through the doorway
"A fine young single man I'd say" Merle whispers as shd walks pass Sandra
.....days pass and Andrews cannot stop thinking of blonde
He gets dressed and stops at a flower stall on his way to hospital
She has nobody who visits her and I'm hoping she would come home with me for a while
Sandra sits on "her" bench as Andrews walks towards her from behind
Good afternoon blonde
Still no name?
What are you doing here?
Visiting you of course
Listen I am here to ask you nicely to come and stay with me and my mother for a while
My mother is a retired nurse and good company
You really think that I will stay with a stranger?
I am certainly not!
"We stayed together for a short while" he laughs as he waits for a nefative respond
Sandra looks at him and smiles at him
I don't know who am I, so yes I am a stranger just as much as you are a stranger
So you will come with me?
Okay, but only for a while
The rain sets in as Andrews drives home
His mother anxious to meet the girl of his dreams
She waits for them on the step
Sandra walks up to the old lady what seems to be in her sixties
Please come in and have a seat at the fireplace
Andrews please as Matilda to bring us some tea
......weeks passes and Sandra feels guilty about her lie
She is getting dressed to accompany Andrews; Oscar Andrews as she has come to know him to a night out
They sits quietly enjoying their got chocolate and carrot cake
A family well take care of financially
Eventually she must tell Oscar the truth and move on with her life
Oscar takes her hand and kisses it gently
She smiles at him and their eyes meets for the first time; eyes that speaks a thousand words that only people inlove understands
That night became a moment of a new beginning, yet unknown to them
......months passes and as Sandra takes her morning shower the soap went in her eye
Reaching for the towel she slips in the bath
He head bumps against the towel railing
Andrews hears the noise and rushes to the room, but realizes the noise came from the bathroom
He forced the door open and finds Sandra lying half in the water
Blonde! Are you okay?
Mother call the doctor immediately
He pulls her from the shower and wraps the towel around her body running to the bedroom where he puts her down gently
The doctor knocks on the door and ask if he can examine her alone
Stephanie and Oscar waits in the living room hoping for a miracle after Sandra's accident in the shower
She will be okay Oscar. The bump was luckily not that serious
Does she remember anything of her past doctor?
Oh, she did not mentioned anything of that sort Oscar, I'm sorry
I will check on her tomorrow afternoon; for now she must rest
See you tomorrow and congratulations on the pregnancy!
Pregnancy?
Yes she is four months pregnant Oscar
Oscar runs to Sandra's room
He opens the door and there she is lying asleep
She is going to have my child!
His mother stands next to him and puts her arms around his waists
We going to have a baby in the house
This must be Godsend!
Come let us give her time to rest. We can talk about the pregnancy when she wakes up
Sandra walks down the passage to Oscar and Stephanie
She watches them for a few seconds before she enters the room
Oscar, I have something to tell you
Yes please come sit next to be blonde
We going to have a baby?
Yes we are, but I have more news for you
He takes both her hands and waits for her to speak
I remember who I am
"My name is Sandra Bower"
I know who I am Oscar
That is wonderful news!
But wait, are you leaving me, us?
Not anytime soon; she smiles at his mother whom sits quietly with her cup of tea
Oscar takes her in his arms and kiss her softly on her warm lips
........fivr months later a healthy boy was born and Oscar named his son Oscar Junior Andrews
Sandra and Stephanie is happy with the chosen name and laughs as Oscar sits comfortably, while he sings to his little hero
