Drama

It was a normal day, or so she thought. Julia got up and checked her phone for any appointments. In the back of her mind, she thought she had a doctors appointment in the afternoon for a check-up; however, her calendar was blank for the day. She was a stickler about appointments and showing up on time. Julia waited until the office opened and called. The receptionist confirmed that she did indeed have an appointment at 1:30 that day. She re-entered it in her phone and thought nothing of it.

While she was in the waiting room, Julia had time to browse Facebook. She noticed that it was showing that she was in Cancun, Mexico. "That's weird", she thought, but Facebook had been known to have glitches like that. Curious now, she checked her calendar and looked for other appointments or events she knew she had coming up and everything was wiped blank. Now she felt like something was really off. Her phone hadn't done any updates so that wasn't the reason. She decided to reboot her phone while she was in her appointment so she turned it off.

After Julia left the office, she remembered her phone was off and turned it back on. She was startled when a white screen and an all black face, with two eyes, appeared on her screen and whispered "Julia" and then in the blink of an eye, it was gone. She thought she must have imagined it. Julia was shaken but turned her phone off and on again. It vibrated oddly but finally turned on and seemed to be working fine and when she checked, all of her appointments were back in her calendar and she wasn't in Cancun, Mexico any longer and everything seemed to be back to normal. "That was the oddest thing ever" she thought. Julia went on about her day and tried to forget about it but kept going back to the face on her screen. That became apparently impossible as every time she looked at her phone, the face appeared. Julia began to think she was losing her mind as it only happened for a split second and then was gone. She even texted her one girl friend to ask her if anything was off with her cell phone and she replied "No" and asked her why but Julia didn't explain.

Julia tried calling her mom and was going to tell her what happened. She dialed her and it started ringing and then for a split second, her mind thought she heard her ex-boyfriend, Jack, answer the phone. She shook her head clear and then hung up the phone.

That night, she set her phone beside her bed and plugged it in so it would be charged for the day. When she plugged in her phone, it started to do the odd vibration again and it started to ring. Julia answered. It was an ex-boyfriend's voice who had passed away. Julia was too stunned to even move. She tried to answer but was frozen. He was whispering her name like the face on her screen did. She finally managed to say "Jack, is that you?" and then the phone went dead. Julia didn't know what to do and obviously couldn't sleep. She tried to read. She put the TV on. Then the phone rang again. She was paralyzed in fear. She looked at it. It was the face again on the screen. She covered her eyes and gulped. "Yes" she said. It was silence on the other end, then heavy breathing ... then the phone started the odd vibrating again. It started shrieking. Then it stopped and a voice said "Julia." She screamed and threw the phone across the room, against the wall, smashing it. She watched in horror as it put itself back together, piece by piece. Then it rang again...

Julia didn't have any other phone to call 9-1-1 and who was going to believe her that her phone, of all things, was haunted by her crazy, psycho ex-boyfriend. "Think", she thought. She grabbed the phone and her jacket and ran out the back door. She stopped in her shed and got a shovel and a hammer. She hammered the phone into a million little pieces, thinking to herself that she would have to get a new phone tomorrow. Then, she dug a grave as deep as she could and buried the phone pieces. "There", she thought. There is no way that can come back to life.

Exhausted, Julia put everything away and went back into the house. She flopped on her bed and finally fell asleep, only to be be awaked by the ring of her phone, laying on her nightstand....

The next day, Julia, looking tired and frazzled, dragged herself off to a Verizon store to get a new phone before work. She was looking at all the options and looking at new phones before the salesman came over to help her. To her shock and dismay, on the display phones, the screen went white and the black face with the eyes appeared. She was stunned and frightened beyond belief. Why was he haunting her? They didn't have a bad break-up. Things ended mutually. What was going on? Was she really losing her mind? So many questions were running through her mind. A salesman finally came over and asked her if he could help her and if she was ok and said that it looked like she had seen a ghost. "How appropriate", Julia thought. Julia asked the salesman if there had been any reported glitches with the service or if anything was going on or off and he reported no and asked why. She didn't bother to explain for fear that he would think she was crazy as it appeared to only be her phone. Julia went through the motions of getting a new phone and getting everything transferred from her account to her new phone.

She decided to take the day off to try to get some rest and settle down since she didn't get any sleep the night before. She got home and plugged in her phone to let it charge fully.

Julia fell asleep and was dreaming of Jake and their time together and her conscious and her dream world became confused. Then, in the back of her mind, her phone rang. "Julia" he whispered .... "I'm coming for you" ....
