EUTW: Anonymous Allies (Part 5!)

“Wh-what happened?”

Those words came out of Gale’s mouth before me could stop them, and he regretted it immediately as Flint coughed a little and began, in a harsh voice:

“What happened? WHAT HAPPENED? Did you NOT see what happened? That weird, sarcastic girl just tumbled into a pit, a fricking VINE killing my sister, and a demonic sorcerer lady just- just- UGH!”

Flint buried- RAMMED his head into his arms.

Gale honestly thought he was just angry until he heard him sob a little, then quickly stop and the forest rang with silence.

At that moment, a string of curse words rang out.

“WHO IN THE EVERLOVING HELL ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT?”

The words Hunter just bellowed floated around the room like invisible pixies.

The masked person waved their hands around in alarm, startled by the sudden outburst.

“Uh-uh-uh- I’m not a danger! It’s fine!”

Hazel eyes met yellow ones.

“What do you want?” Galen muttered.

“I-well, I’m- I think that Miss Yvette can explain, can she?”

Yvette nodded.

“Very much so. This is the escort, I believe.”

“I-I would prefer for my name to be private, please.”

“That is fine. This is Hunter. He is the owner of the Dark Ring, and part of the Elementals.”

At the mention of the word “elementals” the messenger shook their head in alarm.

“The ones Mallark- sorry! Bread terminated because of the-well, ahem, passings?”

“Yes, those ones.”

Hunter rolled his neck.

“So you're a messenger, why can’t we just walk to the base?”

“Because er-the base is...over sea?”

“Oh.”

Galen laughed, a short, barky sounding one.

“Anyway, we have to get going. Who knows what Bread will DO to me if I got the Princess lost-or worse, KILLED you guys.”

The hood shook violently as the girl shuddered.

“Come on, Miss Yvette, Mr. Jagger, and Hunter. We could set out before night.”

The figure whipped out a lantern from nowhere, and slowly opened the door.

And then they set out.

The figure held open the door to the boat. Yvette stepped in first, followed very closely by Galen, with Hunter slowly shuffling in. He didn’t really want to go on the boat- he was prone to seasickness- but what other choice does he have?

“Hurry, hurry, hurry!”

The figure shoved him in and started the ship, pulling it quickly out of it’s hazardous hiding spot and putting it on full throttle, speeding into the river, landing, pulling into the forest and turning on the wheels, slamming through trees. After going high speed, they finally threw the ship back into the water.

If Hunter cared, they were now at the ocean, but he had rushed to the wastebasket to throw up.

And they weren’t even starting the trip yet.

He sighed.

A boy slinked out of the hull of the ship, also wearing a cloak but the hood was down. He had teal hair covering his eyes, barely visible glasses, and a dazed sort of expression. 

“D-did we really have to go that fast?”

Hunter stared.

Alright, this boy was cute. But no-he couldn’t focus on that right now!

“What’s your name?”

The boy flinched.

“I-I’m uh-I don’t think I can say-I’m sorry-”

“It’s fine-Don’t worry about it!”

Hunter rushed off to find something to do.

The masked figure shouted at them:

“HEY, CAN YOU GIVE ME THE MANUAL?”

They obliged, tossing it to her.

“THANKS!”

They half-smiled and sat down, fluffing their hair and picking at their fingers.

In the background, Hunter threw up again.

“It’s fine, just a little storm.”

“You’ll see how big of a storm you’ll be in when Bread-”

“We aren’t even lost yet!”

“We could be, for all I care.”

“Calm down, both of you.”

“W-well, um, we are on the right track.”

“It could be wrong.”

“It CouLd bE wRonGGgg. WE ARE FINE.”

“Sit down, the both of you. We need a level head.”

“L-like Frankenstein's monster?-”

“HAHA WHAT?!”

And they all burst into laughter.

Meanwhile Hunter was coughing his guts out.

Lu was reading. He loved the feel of the pages, soft and silky. They way the words moved.

Somebody entered his dorm.

He looked up, a bit shocked and scared, until he realized it was the boy that had asked him for their name.

“H-hello there-Uhm, I never got your name, but it’s also fine if you don’t want to tell me or anything.”

“Oh, that’s fine. I’m Hunter.”

“Nice name.”

The boy-Hunter’s face turned a little pink, but that was probably just the candlelight.

“Thanks. Your’s is too.”

Lukai softly smiled and returned to his book.

“Whatchu reading?”

“O-oh, it’s just Shakespeare.”

“Really? Super advanced you must be.”

“Haha, it’s pretty easy if you get the h-hang of it. Just some funny words.”

“Like?”

“Thou, thy, hath, lede.”

“Wanna give me an example?”

“R-really?”

“Yep!”

“O-okay! Thy sun hath never set on thy world.”

“WOAH.”

“You t-try it out, I guess…”

“Thou hath never seen.”

“Yeah, like that! You got it!”

“Seems like you came out of your shell a little, hm?”

Lu softly laughed and they could feel their ears heat up a little.

“Y-yeah. I guess.”

Lukai slumped on his bed.

“So, are we friends?”

“Y-yes?”

Hunter grinned.

“See you.”

He started to run to his room, then stopped.

“Your voice is nice, by the way.”

It was midnight when they arrived.

Hunter was surprised at how...BIG the place was. It was like a mansion, but way bigger.  Two stone gargoyle hybrids guarded the giant willow doors.

Rain was streaming down the roof, the first rain of the season. 

The wet raindrops felt like tears.

Even the sky is mourning our team. Hunter thought, shaking his head to clear the sudden feeling of wanting to cry.

Then a blonde haired boy popped out of nowhere.

“Ugh, how much longer?”

Be patient.

“Aww, you know I hate that!”

Maybe that’s why I made you wait...

“What’d ya say?”

Nothing. Focus on the girl.

“She was really easy to kill.”

Her brother won’t be.

“You worry too much!~”

Tch. Our work does not need to have bothersome… relationships.

“Awww, where did the cute, sadistic side of you go?”

Go back to your work already.

“Whatever you sAy.”

Hmpf.

“Alright, byeeeeee!”

…

Goodbye.

…
