Contemporary Fiction Speculative

In the Kingdom of Cazoo, nothing was fair and there was no justice. Merchants from other places would come here to sell illegal things and exorbitant stuff that would only cost a few dimes and nickels in other places. The priests would trick devoted people to donate a lot of money for the Church, but that money was never actually used for the expenditure on the repairs of the Church. Rich arrogant guys would convince pretty innocent gals to come with them, only to have sex and then dumping those gals. And those cases were not even a quarter of how many cases that happened in this kingdom.

As unfair and unjust this kingdom was, no one dared to speak out and disagree with the King and his advisors. They were also doing awful stuff that no one could think of, but if any information leaked out, they would immediately silenced the information holder. They were too proud, greedy and blindfolded and they suppressed any opposing views to keep their statuses.

In such a terrible situation, a “hero” would often appear to defeat the “monster”. However, the heroes were always defeated by themonster in this battle. No one could stand up to the king and look directly into his eyes without their legs shaking and teeth clattering. No man in the kingdom dare defy the laws and orders of the king. This kingdom was doomed as soon as this king was chosen. Alas, there was no hope to improve or change the future of this kingdom.

On this particular sunny day, a teenager came out of a house on the street. He was tall but skinny, and he had bright blue eyes. Sam was just a normal teenager and he was living with his family. He had just left the house when he saw a large crowd at the palace. He was wearing a yellow t-shirt and baggy shorts, as he hurrily ran to the palace.

At the palace, people were waiting before the front door and they were patiently waiting for the king to come out. There was not a sound emitted by the crowd, and some people looked at each other nervously. None of them were excited or hopeful of what the king was about to say.

Just then, Sam arrived and blended into the crowd. He murmured “hello” to some people that he knew and directed his eyes to the balcony above the front door. This was where the king would announce news and address the people of the kingdom .

A few moments later, the people heard some whispers behind the balcony and then silence. The king came out grandly, wearing custom-tailored royal clothes and a shiny, wonderful crown was on his head. He raised his hands to the air and everyone clapped. He raised his hands even higher in the air, until everyone was cheering and clapping furiously for him, except Sam. The king looked through the crowd and locked eyes directly with Sam, who was smiling calmly with clenched hands.

The king then put his hands down, cleared his throat and addressed the people coldly, “Thank you. But the next time when you are applauding, if I find someone not clapping, he will be killed instantly. Now, let me inform you the news and the information I have.” For the next ten minutes, the king talked about all the news and decisions that he was going to make. The people were getting more disappointed and unhappy throughout the assembly, since the king did not bring attention to the issues and problems happening in the whole kingdom. He avoided those problems and only focus on the little improvements. He did not make any decision to improve the quality of life of the normal peasants and people of the kingdom. In fact, he only encouraged more taxes and supported the illegal actions and stuff.

After finishing his announcement, the king waved his hands as to end the assembly, but a voice rang out and stopping everyone’s movement. Everyone looked at the speaker, and it was none other than Sam. He said to the king, “There are a few issues that I want your majesty to look at.” The king was as black as thunder and he literally snarled at Sam, “Go away, peasant! One more word from you and I shall chop your head off!” Sam sighed deeply and quietly said, “Your majesty, you are making a big mistake if you decide to kill me. Also, I am only going to speak for a few minutes.” The king thought for awhile, then spat at him and hissed, “Fine, I will let you speak,” he narrowed his eyes, “but if you make any sudden movements or say anything that threatens us, you will immediately find yourself in jail.” The crowd gathered around Sam to hear him speak. Sam bowed politely and started speaking,

“Your majesty, over the course of twenty years, our kingdom has been facing a lot of problems. There are a lot of illegal products selling on the streets and illegal events happening everywhere. Also, there are people committing crime and only few of them were caught. However, it seems to me no one has ever taken action to stop or prevent this stuff from happening. For example, the merchants were never banned from selling illegal stuff or restricted from selling overpriced stuff. A normal comb from them would cost 20 quarters, while buying the same comb from other kingdoms only requires 25 dimes, which is half of the original price.”

“Another problem is that people often get away with crimes. You see, there are a lot of crimes happening in our kingdom, even in this moment. Someone could rape an innocent teen and get away with it by bribing the police or convincing the teen not to speak who he was. Another example would be robbing. The robbers always target different people and they have successfully robbed the victims for a long time. They would threaten to kill the victims if they tried to report or share some money with the police as a promise not to report the robbers. The victims are often too scared to report them, and the police often turn a blind eye to these crimes.”

“As you can see, there is no justice in our kingdom and no one to punish the people responsible of the crimes. No one could live peacefully in this kingdom and no one can rest easily under their roofs.”

“Your majesty, you are the only one who has the highest authority of the whole kingdom, but you encourage the wrong actions and do the same as the wrongdoers do. I think it’s not a secret that we know your highness, that you have been sleeping with ‘a few’ women and you have killed more than 100 innocent people and committed several crimes. Under this impression, how can we believe in you and trust you? You manipulated us, lied to us, used us as a tool and ignored the people’s cries. Not only did you let your sons and daughters commit crimes, you even cover them up without a trace of guilt or hesitation. You let those were wrong roam free, yet punish people that were innocent.”

“Your majesty, the reason that we are weaker than other kingdoms and no improvements have been made is that you, King George the Third, have been ignoring everything in the kingdom and only cared about yourself. You are a selfish, cold blooded king, and you do not deserve being king. The power that you seek and have only made you more alert of people that may pose a threat to it. When you got the power, you threw away everything that the previous king taught you and warned you. You let people faked money and let your advisors to keep their slaves. I don’t think this is exactly what the previous king wants.”

“Without a doubt, your majesty, you are ruining the kingdom and being selfish. You let evil things to continue. I think we need you to step down at once and let someone more suitable and sensible to rule the kingdom.”

After Sam said that, there were a few cheers coming from the crowd and the king was so pissed and fuming. Everyone that were surrounding Sam immediately stepped back and lowered their heads. They could see Sam trembling, but he still stood tall and looked at the king. The king screamed, “Guards! Seize this teen at once and bring him to jail!” The guards seized Sam at once and marched towards the jail. Sam did not try to resist, but only smiled nervously as he was arrested and pulled away.

Later, as the king discussed with his advisors and advisors, they suggested that the king should just kill Sam with excuse “Attempt To Divide the Kingdom”. Although the king was greedy and inclined on doing this, he knew if he did this, the people would only mistrust him more, so he secretly gave orders to a guard for killing Sam without others knowing it.

At midnight, the guard take Sam out of the jail silently and gave him some food and directions. He was moved by what Sam had spoken before and he wanted to help him. He let Sam ride a horse to go on his journey and told him not to return here as the king might recognise him and murder him. Sam nodded and shook hands with the guard. As the guard watched Sam riding further into the distance, he gave a little salute and whispered, “Good luck, Sam.”
