I was so dumbfounded from where I stood that I didn't want to say or do next. Olivia from Ethics, my first friend I made in college, is standing right in front of me all dressed in a strange robe. And she wasn't alone. There had to be nearly a dozen other accomplices judging from what I saw in that dim lighted room.
I could feel many pairs of eyes looking into me, seeing my inner thoughts right there, including my friend Olivia. By whom, was as dumbfounded as much as me. It is not often your secret group of a cult gets an unexpected visitor in their domain after all.
I couldn't blame her or any of them. However, what is this shady business? What were they getting into that it had to be so secretive about it? I needed answers but my mouth felt like it was sealed with a plate welded to it.
Finally, Olivia broke the ice and started: "Yunkina, this is a private meeting with the DnD group that I mentioned once."
I laughed at first before replying: "Yeah, I do remember, but why would you all be dressed up in the same robe attire? Where in DnD, you have people dress up as different roles, races and classes."
"Point taken," Olivia responded. "To be honest, I didn't know how you will feel about me dressing up such as this. It's a little..."
"Off-putting," I added.
"Well, I won't say that, but it's you."
"How else would you describe all of us? Especially considering your robemates are just standing there aimlessly. "
"I would say mysteriously thrilling. And don't mind them, they are all but observing."
"Mysterious, yes but you and I have a different description to the word: thrilling. And that still doesn't make me more anxious nor nervous."
"I see." Olivia then signals them all to dismiss and go around within their hidden chamber as my so-called friend and I remain standing there.
I looked over to the bulletin board where I found not only seven individuals who have different blood disorders, but came across the eighth one being me.
Olivia followed my eyes and gave me a nonchalant face that she does in her Chess Club tournaments. All of which, I have attended by the way. I don't know much about Chess but she was really good at it. She always came first place each and every time I went to them. To say she is a pro could be overstatement.
"Care to explain the bulletin board there?" I asked her directly.
"Yes why, you see, we are in somewhat of a secret society here. One who is seeking out certain individuals."
"That's the clearest day that it is," I noted but that last part was suspicious that I couldn't help but ask: "What did you mean you seek out certain individuals?"
"We are looking for these people who have special abilities to uphold."
I felt swear running down my spine when Olivia mentioned it. I have been keeping these special abilities a secret all this time. A ability to manipulate my blood cells (by which are sickle cell to add) to make solid objects. This however only causes me lightheadedness, but I'm aiming to learn more about it each and every day.
So yeah, this new found development has been keep under wraps since I first got them when I was 18 years old, finishing up high school. I just thought after all this time (6 months), I was able to keep it that way but unfortunately that isn't the case. Someone sought me out and found my biggest secret of all.
Olivia can see the wheels turning in my head. "Don't worry your secret is safe with us."
"Yeah, a secret keep to a bunch of strangers and a friend who I thought I could fully trust," I noted.
"You can trust me, Yukina. Besides our secret society, I haven't once told anyone about your certain condition."
"How can I trust you? Especially considering you are doing all of this by not only getting to me but also those with other unique abilities!
"Secret society aside, how can you be sure that your fellow robemates won't be going around telling other people that such an individual can do such a thing? If you ask me, that's quite bull. Also, why would you call it a condition?"
"I say condition cause we are worried that you all might be mistreating your blood. Time and time again, you all use your blood to make things possible, including your efforts.
"Do you know what happens when the body doesn't have enough blood? It gets weak and you feel lightheaded. Please don't tell me you thought otherwise."
I actually considered what she was saying and I eventually went: "Yeah, I often feel that way anytime I have to make something solid, even if it's small."
"Exactly, we are just seeking you all out for a way to help with those types of conditions."
"How are you all going to help though?"
"It's quite simple. We are going to rehabilitate the eight of you."
"I see, so what does the rehabilitation consist of?"
"Oh, you know the usual, just basic training, some therapy, and a bit blood drawn."
"Why would you need any blood drawn?
"To make sure you don't have any blood diseases of course."
"But we already have those. How is it any different than drawing blood from any of us when you already know what conditions we have."
"I mean to look out for any sexual transmittd diseases, Yukina."
"Why must we concern ourselves with that when we can simply go to a doctor. By which, I'm positive you are all not doctorate in the first place, especially considering you are old as I."
"Oh, but YuYu, I ain't 18 years old."
"What do you mean? Clearly you are," I said as I remember the interior from before.
There, still above the fireplace was the Dracula portrait along with the bats surrounding it. I looked around the room and noticed that the chamber had a Gothic Victorian feel and setting to it. Anything you can think of Dracula, bats and vampires, it was all right there. I was then I realized what the predicament I was in.
Once I pieced everything together, Olivia's robemates came forth with glowing red eyes, and their skin went pale. I turned to Olivia and found out that she too acquired the same features, by which, took me aback.
She smiled at me with her fangs right there as she responded: "I'm over 200 years old, darling, and we are the Blood Hunters."
Now, I read enough Dracula adaptations and Twilight to know a thing or two about these types of monsters. How silly can I be not to figure that out in the first place. I have a 4.5 GPA for crying out loud, and I just walked in a den of vampires.
