Here's the truth: you are going to die. All humans die, so you are going to. You might be wondering what kind of narrator says that. Well, me, I do. Hi, I'm Death. If you have the chance to be reading this, then you probably don't know me yet. But, let's not focus on that. I'm here to tell you the story of the train.

There were only three people on this specific train, Kathy, Logan, and their mom. Kathy and Logan were being taken to their new foster parents. Their mom couldn't take care of them no more.

About half the way there something terrifying happened. While asleep I was told to take Kathy's life. Let me remind you she is only nine, while her brother is 7. But Kathy woke up and didn't let me take her. So to please my boss I took her brother.

Now, I know what you're thinking, "Why'd you have to kill any of them?" The answer is because it's my job. I have to do what I'm told.

Kathy shook awake her mom and they forced the engineer to come to a halt. Luckily for them, there were broken tracks up ahead. They got off the train, might I remind you it's 26 degrees outside of the train. They both jumped off the train into the snow with poor, dead Logan in their arms.

The people working the train said that we had to go. And that we'd stop in the next town for the burial. They did and after the burial, Kathy saw something in the snow. It was a book with gold lettering. Although Kathy never learned to read or write, she took it.

Then they set on their way to Montana to meet the family of the Garretts. Kathy met the Garretts, there were two. Paula Garrett, a short stubby woman whose face looked "as mean as death." And Jason Garrett, whose face was calm and loving, especially for the tall, slim, mean-looking body he had.

She lived her life in the Garretts' house, waiting for the day she'd wake up and all of this be a dream. But that day never came. She resented Paula, yet loved Jason, probably more than she should have. And all of this because of that stupid wreck of a train ride.

Ever since that day Kathy hated trains and loved books. This is the end of my story. Goodbye,; til the end of yours
