My story is entitled Another day in a heatwave, that tells about the experience and effects of heatwave in other countries. The heatwave is a period of excessively hot weather which may be accompanied by high humidity especially in oceanic climate countries. Also heatwave is usually measured relative to normal temperatures for the season. Again temperatures that people from a hotter climate consider normal can be called a heatwave in a cooler area if they are outside the normal climate pattern for that area. Also in the story of Another day of heatwave is a term applied to both hot weather variations and to some extraordinary spells of. hot ,which occurs once in a century. In the story of Another day of heatwave, there are severe heatwave which caused catastrophic crop failures and thousands of death from hyperthermia. Heatwave also caused widespread of power outages due to increase in the use of Air-condition. Again heatwave is also considered as an extreme weather that can be a natural disaster and a danger because both heat and sunlight may seem to overheat the body. In the story of Another day of heatwave,it is noted that heatwave can usually be detected using forecasting instrument so that warning call can be issued entirely. In the definition based on Frichetal's Heatwave duration index is a Heatwave occurs when the daily maximum temperature of more than five consecutive days exceeds the average maximum temperature of five degree Celsius or nine degree Celsius. Again heatwave is also a period of abnormally and uncomfortably hot and usually humid weather conditions. In the story of Another day of heatwave it is noted that it lasts for several days and weeks. Also A.T. Burrows in 1900 defined heatwave as a spell of three or more days on which the maximum shade temperature reaches or exceeds 90 degree Fahrenheit or 32.20 degree Celsius. The World Meteorological Organization defines a heatwave as five or more consecutive days of prolonged heat in which the daily maximum is higher than the average maximum temperature of five degree Celsius or nine degree Fahrenheit. However in the USA , Another day of heatwave is a period of at least two or more days of excessively hot weather conditions. During periods of extended heatwave that occurs in California ,USA a heat storm also occurs. The Heat storm occurs when temperature reaches 100F (37.8C) for a period of three or more consecutive days over a wide area. Also in the story of Another day of heatwave it can be observed that there is a high pressure in the upper atmosphere that traps heat near the ground forming heat wave. The period of global warming in Another day in a heatwave boosts the probability of some extreme weather conditions like heatwaves. Also Hyperthermia known as heat stroke because a common place during periods of sustained high temperature and humidity. Again the chronically and the elderly often take prescription medications for illness such as diuretics, antipsychotics and antihypertensives that occurs due to the body's inability to dissipate heat during periods of heatwave. In the story of Another day of heatwave in the Eastern United States of America ,an instance of a heatwave seem to have occurred when a high pressure system originates in the Gulf of Mexico and becomes Stationary just off the Atlantic Seaboard typically known as Bermuda high. As in the story of Another day of heatwave,it is noted that in South Africa heatwave occurs when a low pressure offshore and high pressure inland air combines to form a Bergwind. There humidities which are usually very low and the temperature can be over 40c fourty degree Celsius in summer. The highest official temperature recorded in South Africa is 51.50C which was a heatwave in summer during the Bergwind. Also global warming boosts the probability of extreme weather conditions like heatwaves. Again Hyperthermia also heat stroke becomes a common during periods of sustained high temperature and humidity. Also Heat edema that occurs during heatwave causes the swelling of hands, feet and ankles that is generally Secondary to increased aldosterone secretion. Again heat edema usually resolves within several days after the patient becomes acclimated to warmer environment. Again Heat rash known as prickly heat is a maculopapular rash accompanied by acute inflammation and sweat ducts. The prevention is always the best therapy. Heat cramps are painful often severe and involuntary spasms of large muscle group used in strenuous exercise. In addition Heat cramps tend to occur after intense exertion. During heatwave there is intense Heat syncope which is believed to result from intense sweating , which leads to dehydration during heatwave. Also people who experience heat syncope during heatwave should avoid standing in the heat for longer periods of time. In order to prevent heat syncope they must move to a cooler environment and lie down when they recognize the initial symptoms of heat syncope. Again Heat exhaust ion is the forerunner of heat stroke, that is hyperthermia. Other symptoms of heat stroke may include diarrhea, headache, nausea and vomiting , dizziness, tachycardia and malaise . During heatwaves , public health measures are taken in setting up of Air conditioned public coating centers. In addition it can be noted that heatwave is the most lethal type of weather phenomenon in the United States of America. However between the period of 1992 and 2001 deaths from excessive heat in the USA numbered a record of 2,190 people as compared to 880 deaths from floods. Over a period of five days , Chicago in the USA recorded an instance of heatwave which was the worst in USA history leading to 739 heated related deaths in the year 1995. However in the United States of America, the loss of human life in hot spells in summer exceeds that caused by all other weather conditions. Also according to the Agency for Health care Research and Quality about 6,200 Americans are hospitalised each summer due to some excessive heat and those at highest risk are poor. Again more than 2000 people died in Karachi , Pakistan in June 2015 due to a severe heatwave with temperatures as high as 49c or 120F. In addition our concern is to always focus on predicting the future likelihood of heatwave and it's severity to our society. Heatwave is also a health risk. The excessive heat causes psychological stress to a degree which affects performance and is also associated with an increase in conflict. Another effect of heatwave is that it leads to electricity spikes due to increased Airconditioning use which can create power outages, exacerbating the problem. Also heatwave caused the city of Melbourne Australia to experience some major power disruptions which left over a half million people without power as the heat wave blew transformers and overloaded a power grid. Again heatwave occurs during drought which dries out vegetation ,it can help to contribute to bushfires and all sorts of wild fires in our community. Heatwaves can cause roads and highways to buckle and melt , water lines to burst and power transformers to detonate causing fires. As noted North American heatwave causes physical damage in our community. Heatwaves can also damage rail roads such as buckling and kinking rails which can lead to slower traffic delays and even cancellations of service when rails are too dangerous to traverse by trains. In addition Sun kinking occurs when certain types of rail design like short section rails welded together or fish plate rails expand and push on other sections of rail causing them to warp and kink. Also Sun kinking can be a serious problem in places of hotter climates in the Southern USA, parts of Canada ,the Middle East. Another effect is the aspect of global warming. Also climate models reveals future heatwaves that will have a more geographic pattern. There are instances of severe heatwaves that occurs in Chicago in the year 1995 , likewise the same heatwave occurs in Paris in the year 2003. There is an experience of more intense , frequent and linger lasting heatwaves. Also heatwaves in Europe and North America happens parallel to the conditions of atmospheric circulation. Other activities due to increased greenhouse gas emissions shows that heatwaves is more severe in our community especially in the Tropics or other Tropical countries like West Africa. As noted earlier on heatwaves and droughts as a result minimizes the ecosystem carbon uptake. The carbon uptake is also known as Carbon sequestration. Other extreme heatwave conditions are predicted to happen with an increase in global warming which puts stress on the entire ecosystem. Also stress on the ecosystem due to future intensified heatwaves will reduce the biological productivity in our Community. This will cause changes in the ecosystem carbon cycle feedback because there will be less vegetation to hold carbon from the atmosphere which will only contribute more to the atmosphere. Lastly I will conclude that another instance of Heat wave is caused by an increase in wild fires in places like Spain, a country where heatwaves can be attributed to entirely.
