The popular cool girls in my school were the ones that ordered everyone in the school around. That was until someone stopped listening to them. I should know that because that person was no other person than me. I was trying to catch up with the group of girls. So I ran, but I tripped over a rock and fell. The girls turned around and laughed at me. Then I saw a little puppy that was muddy and dirty in space between their legs. It stumbled and tried to walk toward us, but fell in a mud puddle. The girls heard that and immediately turned. “OMG that dog is so ugly!” Tiffany the group leader screamed. Bethany and Mary came in front of Tiffany and tried to stop the puppy from moving forward. Still the puppy was determined to keep its pace and move closer. Mary went in front of Bethany and Tiffany and kicked the puppy. The puppy went soaring through the air and landed on the hard cement. “Go Mary! Go Mary!” The other two chanted. Mary ran toward the puppy and grabbed it. She held it tight in her hand that the puppy made loud, whining noises. She looked at it before hurling it through the air and into a bush. I gasped. The girls laughed at the sight of the poor puppy in the bush and left. I managed to get up and search for the puppy. Sure enough there the poor thing was. I cupped it in my hands and ran home. When I got home, I grabbed an alcohol wipe from the closet and began wiping the puppy’s fur. I heard whining from the pup, so I wiped faster to reduce the amount of time the pup would feel pain. After I was finally done, I gave the puppy a little bath in my bucket that I used as a baby. I dropped a dab of conditioner on the puppy’s back. The puppy looked cleaner after. I decided to name the pup even though I didn’t know if the puppy was a female or a male. I decided to name the pup...Darwin! I thought about how in class we were talking about Charles Darwin and just blurted out the name. I felt sorrow for the poor puppy. “What would become of Darwin? Would Darwin get a family? Would Darwin get left outside? Would Mary hurt Darwin?” All of these questions raced through my mind until I knew what I had to do to keep Darwin safe. I had to let him live with me for now. I began to get worried. I didn’t know how to take care of a pup at all! How could I keep Darwin safe then? I couldn’t abandon Darwin. So I made him a part of my family. I searched up on google search, “How to care for a dog.” Within seconds of typing the question tons of results came up. I decided to go with the Howto.org website. I clicked on it and it said all you need to take care of a dog is dog pads, A collar and a leash, some dog food, and two bowls. I understood and got to work. I used up my allowance money for all of these items on Ebay. They were sixty eight dollars in total. I almost died at the sight of that number. I pressed checkout as my hand shook. I was willing to do what I needed to do for Darwin. He slept on a little doll blanket I had stored away in my basement. He looked happy. It warmed my heart to see him that way. I turned back around and used my credit card to pay for it. My allowance that I had worked for had gone away, but it was for the better good. My mother came home at 4:34pm today. She was so tired that she collapsed on the sofa. I took out the cold curry from the fridge and poured some in a bowl of rice. She fell asleep before I could hand it to her. I started to get tired so I cleaned up the table, put everything away, and went to my room. I grabbed Darwin and carried him upstairs. He was like a sleeping baby. I kissed him on his head and we went to bed. The next morning I woke up to a puppy licking my face. I giggled and pulled him off of me. I got my shoes on and checked our porch for any packages. “Yes!! Darwin’s supplies came!” I said in my head in excitement. I couldn’t wait to open it. I didn’t even have to use a scissor. I pulled on the side of the box open with the tape hanging off and took everything out. I carried it up to my room and Darwin followed. “Ready Darwin?” I asked him. He barked as a reply. “Ok!” I poured some water in the shiny water bowl. He dashed over and started drinking fast. “Sorry boy, you must have been so thirsty. I apologised to Darwin. He just kept on drinking. I grabbed the bag of dog food and poured some into the food bowl. He left the water bowl and started eating dog food. He was so cute. “Why would that group of three girls do such a thing?” I said mad. I took the collar out of the box and put it on Darwin. It fit very nicely. I grinned from ear to ear as I pranced outside with Darwin. The best part was that the flowers were flying down from the trees. A couple fell on me and Darwin. He rolled around and jumped. Once we came back inside, I filled up the water bowl and the food bowl and watched as he ate happily. I heard a knock on my door. It was the group of three! Tiffany, Bethany, and Mary! I opened the door. They stood at the bottom of the stairs and threw eggs at me. I quickly slammed the door shut and locked it. I cried. I had eggs all over me. Just then Darwin came to my side and comforted me by nudging his head against me. I shed my last tear and hugged him. I realized that you the best thing was that if you give others a gift, they have one for you.
