An American young boy who returns issued book extremely late to library

This is a story about a young American boy, Thomas, who is a teenager. He is a student of grade 8. He is a very bright student and his teachers are always seen admiring his educational efforts. He is very fond of reading different types of books. Because of his hobby of reading books on different topics he is associated with many libraries having different collection of books. He is a responsible young boy and whenever he issues any book from any library everytime he makes sure to return it back in time to the library from where he issues. He does a part time job of a waiter at a restaurant along with his education as he belongs to a middle class family where the only earning member is his father and he has three more younger siblings who study too.

He is the eldest one so has all the responsibilities like looking after his younger siblings, most of the times his mother is not well so he has to take care of her too.

One day he goes to one library and issues a book and makes a commitment to a librarian to return it back in two weeks. He goes home happily as everytime he issues a new book he feels new excitement to read it. When he reaches home he sees that no one is at home except her mother who is not in good health. He increases the speed of his steps to rapidly reach near to her mother to ask her if she is okay. As soon as he reaches near to her, he asks her that mom are you okay? His mom replies that she is not feeling well and she says him to take her to hospital. He immediately calls a taxi, holds his mother's hand, gives her support and helps her to walk to reach the taxi. The doctor after assessment tells that she is severely anemic due to which she gets fatigued and lethargic easily. He prescribes her some multivitamins and also advices a list of foods that make blood in the body. He takes his mother home safely and asks her to take rest. After sometime one of his younger siblings comes and asks him to help in his homework. He starts to help his brother. Then his father comes and he has to give him the report of the whole day. The days become really busy for him and he does not get any extra time in which he can do any other work. He does not get time even to read a single page of a book that he issues from the library for time period of two weeks. In the busy schedule he does not realize that the two weeks have gone and now it's time to return back the book to librarian. As the days pass he gets more and more busier with his basic routine. Now he completely forgets about that book. One day he opens a drawer when he keeps that book. He suddenly remembers that he had issued a book for two weeks and now it's almost 3 months. He goes into deep thinking that how can he be so careless and forgetful. He also thinks that what will he tell a librarian that why didn't I return the book in time. While thinking about such questions, he quickly holds the book and starts his journey to reach the library. As soon as he opens the door and enters the library, he feels very nervous. In such nervousness he goes towards the librarian and says, Hello Ma'am! I hope you are fine. The librarian looks at him and opens her record register to see if he is returning the book back in time. When the librarian starts to find the record following the code number mentioned on the book she discovers that the time period for the book to be returned back is two weeks and he is here after almost three months. She asks him the reason for delay. He feels very embarrassed, tells her the truth that he forgets to return it back because of his hectic routine and also apologizes for the delay. The librarian feels sympathy for him as she finds him already ashamed but also tells him that he has to pay fine for the extra days. He becomes a bit upset after hearing this as he starts to think that most of the part of his savings will go waste in it that he earns doing a part time job as a waiter. At that time he does not have the exact amount so he pays the money he has and promises to bring the rest by tomorrow. The next day he comes and clears his remaining dues. The librarian says to him that the owner of the library gets to know the fact that you issue a book for time period of two weeks but do not return it back in time. He becomes very angry and asks me to never give you any book. The librarian further added that I know you very well. You are a responsible boy. Before whenever you take book you return back in time. It's for the first time and everyone has a right that he should be given at least one chance so I have told the owner about you. Now he agrees that you can take any book. But be cautious in future to return every book in time.

This happening makes him learn one thing that how much one is busy with his routine he should remember the other important things too. Forgetting them can cause a person to pay large penalties that most of the times he is not in a condition to pay but then there is no other option for him. Also the trust of others breaks in yourself. Now he is more responsible and after that day he never forgets to return books back in time to the library.
