“Are you coming tonight?”
“But- your not real”
It was 8:00 am. I was having breakfast, my usual oatmeal with bananas. I was getting ready for school when I heard my Mom yell that the bus was here. I enjoyed the peacefulness on the bus, it made me feel as if I was on some high. This bus ride was different. There were only 4 other people on the bus when usually it is empty because my house was the first stop. I minded my business and sat in the very back where no one else was at. The bus started on its path to collect the other students. We finally got to the school where I got off the bus, but I was the only one to get off the bus. When I got inside of the school I went to my first class, math. This class was the worst because it had Chad Wrichents, my old childhood love, and all his friends. After math class, I finished off the rest of school which was decently pleasant. We did a couple of experiments in chemistry. My Mom came and got me at the end of the school day. We went home and I passed out on my bed.
When I woke up I checked my phone and went through social media. I saw off Chad Wrichents Twitter page he was having a pool party at his house tonight. I knew that I wasn’t going to go. The last party Chad had was a night no one would forget. Some time had passed, so I went downstairs to help prepare dinner. When I got downstairs my Mom gave me some money and said that she was going out tonight, so I was on my own for dinner.
She told me, “I heard Chad was having a party, maybe you should go and make new friends. Just give them another shot.”
I glanced at her and firmly told her, “No never again.” My mom has always loved Chad and deep down I think she wanted me to marry him.
Her body tensed and she sadly said, “Alice it's been a year, you need to move on now.”
“No, she was the love of my life. I will never move on and I will never forgive them for what they have done.”
“Alright,” she agreed and left the house.
I ordered out Chinese food, my favorite. I heard a knock on the door, so I assumed it was the delivery guy. When I opened the door it was her; it was Grace. I looked in disbelief.
“Grace-, is that you”
“Yes, my sweet Alice, it's me.”
“That-that’s not possible, you're dead I saw you in the pool.”
“No, I had to fake being dead to get away from my father. I came back for you my love.”
“I saw you jump from the roof, I know you're dead. I should’ve stopped them. I thought they were just joking when they said they were going to push you. I’m sorry my love. I swore to never talk to them again.”
“Oh Alice, you were always so loving. It’s not your fault, forgive yourself. Chad’s having a party, let's go to it together.”
We went on our way to Chad’s house. It still looked the same. The house was in the woods, the house is grey with black edging. We walked into the house and it was as if nothing had changed; it was still the same house from a year ago. Grace went to the bathroom while I went and got us drinks. She said to meet her outside by the fire. I got our drinks and was waiting by the fire pit when I saw her. Grace was standing at the balcony. Chad and his friends were behind her. Then it happened again. They pushed her, and she landed in the pool. I rushed over to her to get her out of the pool. She was dead, it happened all over again. I watched the love of my life die twice. I ran into the house and upstairs to meet Chad and all his friends. I started throwing punches at Chad. I was much weaker and shorter than Chad, so my punches did nothing.
“Alice, look at me,” Chad tried to calm me down, “just lay down did you take something?”
“No, get off of me. You pushed her-you pushed her again.”
“Alice, what are you talking about? Who’s her?”
“Grace-Grace she was here. We came together and you pushed her again-not again.”
“Grace has been gone for a year, Alice. She fell into the pool. She was trying to escape from her dad and he pushed into the pool.”
“No, you did, you pushed her into the pool. It was here at your house.”
“She used to live here, Alice. She threw the party last year and her dad came home. He was upset about the party and started yelling at her; they eventually got to the balcony and he pushed her into the pool.”
“No-I thought it was you. I need to lay down.”
I layed in Chad’s bed and passed out. I woke up in the morning to find Chad next to me. I couldn’t remember anything that happened last night. I tried to find my clothes and leave before he woke up. I got down the stairs when I was greeted by his family.
“You must be Alice,” his mother politely asked.
“Yes, I am. I must be going before my mother gets worried.”
“Nonsense. I already told her that we would take you home. Come now, eat some breakfast.”
We had pancakes and eggs for breakfast that morning. Finally, Chad woke up and took me home.
We were driving down the road when next thing I knew we hit another car. I woke up in the hospital.
“What happened?” I saw my mom next to me crying.
“Sweetie you’ve been in a coma.”
“Where’s Grace and Chad?”
“Grace has been dead honey, and Chad is probably at his house. Why?”
“No, I was with them. Then Chad pushed Grace off the balcony or I think so. “
“You were drugged from the Chinese food. I came home and found you unconscious.”
“No, that can’t be, I was with them.”
The doctor came in and told everyone to leave that I needed space, but honestly the last thing I wanted. Then, I saw a nurse. She turned around and it was Grace.
“But- how they said you weren’t real, that I was just drugged.”
“I am very real Alice, I’m having a party at my old house. So are you coming tonight?”
