Drama Fiction Suspense

“I just love the new flat. The view is really amazing. Thank you Mr. Spencer.” Jenny exclaimed.

“Its my duty to reach your satisfaction level Ms. Smith. I’m glad you liked it. Is there anything else, I can help you with.” Mr. Spencer replied.

“No, thanks. I shall make a call if I need anything.”

“I shall be happy to work for you again. I shall take a leave then. See you.”

Mr. Spencer left.

Mr. Spencer works as a broker, who helps immigrants to find places to live in, as per their affordability.

Jenny is new to the town. She is the daughter of a well-known businessman, from a small town. She shifted here to start her higher studies in the school here in the big cities, since, hostels are not yet available, she chose to rent an apartment in the city.

Jenny was ambitious, dreamer & self-confident. She was too tired with the journey & shifting that she just went to bed as soon as Mr. Spencer left.

Around 12am……..

A deep sensual, melodious music broke Jenny’s sleep. Her ears were disturbed by the music; she woke up & sat on the bed for some time.

After coming to proper senses, she stood up, washed her face & then again listened to the music very carefully. At first, she enjoyed it then, she tried to find out, from where the melodious music is coming.

Observing for some time, she found the place of the music; there was a broken window, from where the music was coming out. She walked out of her apartment, went to the corridor & followed the rhythm. Slowly the volume increased.

She stopped near the broken window. She peeped inside to find the musician. She noticed 4-5 persons, sitting in the dinning having their dinner & a cute little girl around 7-8years playing the tune in a piano, which was placed near the broken window. The window was blurrily visible to her flat. She came back to her room & slept back.

It became a daily routine for her. Every midnight, she used to wake up, listen to the music, walk near their corridor, view the girl playing the same tune, walk back & sleep again.

A 3months later,

She was about to have her assignments done, so, she didn’t sleep that night & preparing her work. She didn’t hear the music that night. She ignored. This continued for a couple of days.

One night, the music played for a short time & stopped. It played again & stopped. She noticed it. Then, she realized that the music was not being played for some days. And, again this paused version. She thought something is fishy.

She walked to their doors again. She found it weird, the door was locked from outside & the paused music was tuning. Even the room was dark. She felt weird & afraid off course. But, then realized, maybe, the music is paused & playing due to the wind blowing through the broken window.

She went back to her room, wrapped herself with the blanket, but, she was not able to sleep that night properly.

Next day…….

She came back from school & heard the tune again.

It was afternoon, the tune was low. She stood near the window. The tune was melodious, and heartwarming. As if, a person gone through a broken heart is playing it.

She wanted to befriend with the family staying in the flat. Before that, she went to one of her neighbor, introduced herself as the new tenant in the society, had a cup of coffee with them, then, she enquired about the family with the piano tune.

The neighbors, didn’t say anything to her, rather, they asked her to leave.

It was completely weird for her.

She then, rang the bell of the flat, D-1107, the flat, from where, she enjoyed the tune. No one opened the door. Then, she found, it was locked from outside & the tune has also stopped tuning.

She was on her way back to her room, when, she met Mr. & Mrs. Marker, the oldest couple in the society. The couple knew her very well. They invited Jenny for dinner with them.

“Would you like to have some Wine, dear?” Asked Mr. Marker.

“No, I don’t drink. Well, I would love to have these nuggets. They are very tasty.” Jenny smiled & replied.

“Okay kid, whatever you like, you’re like a daughter to us. Anytime any help, just ring us, we are always there for you.” Marker replied.

“Can I ask you something, uncle?” Jenny asked.

“Yes, my child. Is there anything that is bothering you?”

“Uncle, I hear a piano tuning regularly at midnight. I followed the tune, and found out; it comes from a broken window. I walked to their doorstep one day & found, it was played by a cute little girl while the entire family had their dinner.”

“But, the thing which bothers me is, the tune is so heart touching, as if, someone from a broken heart is crying her sorrow out. Is there anything wrong with the little one. I f you have the answer, please tell me. I want to know, what’s the story behind the tune?” She asked.

The old couple sat stun for a while.

“Please, tell me, I even asked my neighbor about the D-1107 family, they asked me to leave. There must be something fishy. Please tell me.” She requested them with tears in her eyes.

“I don’t know, why I get pulled towards the tune when it is played. I see no one else other than me, listening to it, outside their door. I see the girl sitting near that broken window. Why is the window broken? It seems broken since, ages, why isn’t repaired? What’s the matter with the people there?” She continued.

Everyone remained silent.

Yes, Mr. Marker had the answer to all her answers. The answers to the questions, she has asked & the answers to the questions, she didn’t ask.

He started the secret behind, the answers to Jenny’s questions.

30years ago………

“Hello, Mr. Smith, I handover the flat no. D-1107 to you and your family.” The builder told him, handing them the documents of the flat.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith, along with their twin daughters- Mia & Ria, entered the apartment, the flat D-1107, with happiness.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith after shifting to this big city, this was their achievement or the dreams come true. Their home, where they don’t have to pay rent & use it as the way they want.

Mia loved to dance while Ria loved to play music. She loved to play piano.

It was their 8th birthday, when, Mr. Smith, hosted a party, where he invited his partner Mr. Francis & his family which included, Mr. & Mrs. Parker & his sister Ms. Suzan Parker.

They gifted Ria a huge piano & Mia was gifted with latin dance CDs. They placed piano near the  window, as it was Ria’s favorite place in the entire house.

The party was going on, where, everyone sat on the dinning area, and Ria placed the tune she had learnt from her music teacher.

Suddenly, the house caught fire, and, the main door was jammed because of the heavy wind. The window where the piano was placed, was broken. But, it was too late. The entire flat had caught fire, all the people inside the flat turned into ashes in the fire.

When the fire person came, they broke the main door, which was jammed earlier. They brought out all the burnt bodies but, Suzan’s body was missing.

Some days later, she was found alive, in the medical. The fact was, she managed to escape from the broken window and even saved Mia from the fire. Ria tried to jump from the window but couldn’t make it, her neck got stuck in the window glasses, she got caught & cut her neck. She was no more. The survivor broken window, killed her & the fire turned her into ashes.

But, this accident made Mia, loose her memory forever. Suzan adopted here. She left the city with the kid.

Two years later, she married your grand-father, Mr. Smith. Mia is non other than your mother. Since, Mr. Smith & his family is related to you, you are the only person who heard there heart breaking tune and noticed the broken window.

Since, the day, this incident had taken place, nobody had been able to stay in that flat. It is also said, Mr. Smith & his family still lives there & they don’t even allow anyone to enter or modify their accommodation. That’s why, the broken window has not been repaired yet.

Jenny was shocked with the story. She still couldn’t believe her eyes nor her ears. She had heard & seen the souls who are not alive now. The same tune played in her mind. Tears rolled down her eyes.

She left without saying a word.
