                                       The Boy Who Cried Vampire

There once was a 10 year-old boy named John.  He lived happily at his parent’s house since he loved both of them.  He also loved his 2 sisters and his 1 brother very much.  His friends in the Cub Scouts were always letting him know when anything was about to come up with his pack.  Plus, he also was doing quite well in school since he was a straight A student who had an incredibly high i. q..  So it was safe to say his lifestyle couldn’t have gotten much better.  Yet in spite of his great life, he still had a bad history of telling falsehoods.  Therefore, none of his friends and family members could trust him to tell the truth on a consistent basis.  Because of that, it was quite hard to believe him when he told them anything that needed to be reported, that’s in spite of people constantly telling him that God didn’t approve of lying, he constantly continued doing it about things that happened to him, or anything else, for that matter.  In fact, all the adults in his life warned him about lying, but they fell on deaf ears.

Then one day his parents introduced him to a man named Dave, visiting from out of town.  John thought that man looked sort of suspicious right from the start.  Since he was only 10 years-old, every-body dismissed all charges he had made about anything else he would say, although most people thought he was strange.  Then his parents took him to visit his Uncle Dave.  He thought that he looked rather suspicious because he wouldn’t come to visit the family, and yet he was willing to accept the fact that everybody had their own little problems and figured that happened to be one of Dave’s hang-ups and besides, his mom, who he trusted quite a bit, had told him he wanted to know him more.  That caused John to accept his stranger’s so-called, “weirdness.”  Besides, it was important to the family.

Finally, one day when his parents had to go up to Maine for a conference his father had to attend because he was such a big-weal in the hospital administration department.  The spouses were all required to come.  His mom didn’t think John would enjoy spending so much time alone in the hotel since they knew that they’d be in meetings pretty constantly throughout the whole time they spent on the trip.  They couldn’t find anybody to take care of him during the time they were gone so he was forced to go spend some time with  Dave while they were busy attending all those important meetings.

Then one night John’s father had some really important meetings he had to attend which would each take up about 3 hours of the day and his mom didn’t feel comfortable leaving him in the house all by himself.  So they sent him to spend time with people they had just met at a pool hall since his daddy loved playing that game so much and he wanted to get in lots of practice so he could be the best player in the upcoming tournament.  That irritated John since he didn’t even know how to play pool at all.

The first person they could find who was even willing to have him spend time with John was a man their friends had told them about named Dave.  They decided to give him a chance to watch over their young son while they were attending their meetings.  Dave accepted John into his house with open arms when he arrived at his house about 9:45 p. m. so they went upstairs to Dave’s room to talk with each other.  Although Dave was smiling, John noticed he seldom would ever open his mouth wide when he talked.  So one night after Dave was asleep, he was awakened by the sound of his low creaking bedroom door slowly being opened.  Then he saw that man approaching.  Even though it was quite dark, he noticed him coming closer while he was in bed.  Yet when Dave opened his mouth to smile, John was horror struck to notice that the man who claimed to be his friend, was approaching him with an eerie extremely sinister smile.  It was then that John noticed the man who claimed to be his friend had long,

pointed teeth which were sticking over his lower lip.  That was all he could remember about the terrible incident.  Then he started yelling, “Mom!  Dad!  Help!  It’s Frank!  He’s a vampire!  Do something!  You’ve gotta help me!  Please!  I really need you big-time right now!  Please help me right now!  Please!”

His parents just smiled at such absurd words that had just come out of their own son’s mouth, but  something told them he had indeed seen something that had obviously terrified him beyond any capacity for rational thinking.  Yet since they’d both had such a great time visiting with the man who called himself Dave, they couldn’t believe what their son was so outlandishly screaming about.  The clincher came when John’s neck started itching.  When he reached up to scratch it, suddenly he was filled with such a fear, unlike anything else he’d ever experienced in his whole life.  This new person in their lives whom they’d thought was such a caring, friendly, well-mannered and loving man had just been accused of being a fictional monster that they had only seen in some books and horror movies.

“Aaagh!  It’s him!  Now, it’s Dave!  He’s a vampire!” screamed John with his face completely white like a sheet, “I don’t want to be like him!  Here!  Here!” he yelled, tearing off his shirt to expose his chest, “I don’t want to be like him!  Kill us!  Drive stakes through our hearts!  Please, Mom!  Dad!  You’ve got to believe me!  I’m not making that up!  Please!  Do something right now!  For God’s sake!  Please!”

Uncle Dave just laughed and shook his head in utter disbelief.  Then he looked at John’s parents and shrugged his shoulders.  They returned his laugh with a kind of a snicker which didn’t last too long at all.

John’s face had completely changed with terror.  Still, John was in no condition to accept any kind of love.  When he noticed his parents were smiling and trying their best to keep from laughing, it infuriated him.  Then he ran upstairs to his room and slammed the door.  Then he cried out of utter frustration that even his own parents thought he was lying about the new, kind man he’d just been introduced to.

The next morning when he awoke, he couldn’t get the memories out of his mind about that terrible experience which John that his mom finally called a psychiatrist to come make a house call in their own home.  After talking with John for what seemed like many hours to him, John was finally convinced that he must have had a nightmare and added that the marks on his neck were just scars from where he had fallen out of bed and scratched himself between the frames and his dresser.  He also wouldn’t believe he had actually seen a vampire right there in front of him.  Yet since the psychiatrist was so good at what he’d been trained to do for a living, he finally convinced John that it must have indeed just been a horrible nightmare, although he still had those odd-looking marks on his neck which were just, “scars.”

The next evening, with the help of Dave’s parents and the psychiatrist, they eventually convinced him that there was no such thing as humans turning into vampires and sucking the blood out of their victims.  He even had John go to Dave’s house to prove that he was not the vicious blood-sucking monster he had seen in his so-called, “nightmare.”  Rather, they had become really close friends.  Then one night when John was spending time with Dave, he apologized for what he thought had happened on that night in his bedroom between them.  Dave smiled, but the smile quickly turned sinister.  He hissed at him saying, “Oh, you didn’t dream all the stuff you told your parents.  Now we’re both vampires weather you like it or not, my young John!  So you need to accept that fact!  Nothing can be done to change all that now!”

“I knew it!  I knew it!” yelled John, pointing his poor, trembling finger toward the new man in his life. “You really are a vampire!  Leave me alone!  Stay away from me!  I’ll tell!  Leave me alone or I’ll tell!”

Uncle Dave grinned a sinister grin.  Fear shot through every inch of John’s body.  The strange man gleamed at him then hissed, “Yeah, right!  So who’s going to believe you now, dear boy?”

                                       The Veendavosha

Back at U. N. C. in 1986, the students were constantly thinking up new clubs for each other to join.  There was one in particular which was just for guys.  To join it, the students had to do some type of crazy stunts that the frat. brothers had thought up.  One was swallowing so many goldfish.  Another one was to dress up like a girl and get into the Sorority Dorm to take pictures of the girls doing certain types of embarrassing things.  Then one kid named Fred, who supposedly had no fears and who had earned the cool nickname, “Fearless-Fred,” also wanted to join the club.  That wouldn’t be too easy because the other club-members were just about out of stunts for the attempting newest members to accomplish.

A few days later, the frat-brothers ran out of ideas for the traditional stunts.  Then Fearless-Frank wanted to join the fraternity club.  He supposedly wasn’t scared of anything.  Since he’d earned the nickname, “Fearless-Frank.”  A few days after he’d been excepted into the club, he got a right scary assignment, it was to spend one Friday night in an old abandoned house that had been deserted for many years.  All the townspeople from the Triangle had considered it full of ghosts, monsters and other paranormal things.  Then Fearless-Frank heard his assignment from his frat. brothers, he was ecstatic because he didn’t believe in paranormal things such as ghosts and haunted houses.  The other guys knew they had to come up with something extra crazy for this new character in order to challenge this new freshman who had such a weird-sounding name to those kids.  The problem was all the best ideas had already been used and one of the rules was no repeating tasks.  Eventually somebody thought up a perfect one for somebody with that name, the test was to see if he could spend a night in a spooky old supposedly, “haunted house” which was near the campus.  Then the night finally came for Fearless-Frank to have his initiation so the kids gave him a small refrigerator, some food, school books to do his homework, notebook, several pens, his change of clothes, a cell phone, a cigarette lighter and some food in a cooler.  When the kids dropped him off there, they wished him luck then drove away from the strange and frightening house.  Everybody but Fearless-Frank was eager to get away from the place.

Frank, who didn’t believe in ghosts or haunted houses, figured he had it made.  So after the others had bid him Farewell, they left quickly to get away from the old spooky-looking house.  Little did they suspect, the house really was haunted.  It had just been waiting for some fool to come stay in it.

Frank spent the first night there working on his homework for one of his classes.  When he glanced at the clock and saw it was getting quite late, he unrolled his sleeping bag and decided to just call it a day.  He couldn’t help laughing out loud at the ridiculously simple stunt that had been assigned to him.  He laughed as he got in his sleeping bag to catch a few winks before getting up in order to take his morning jog.  After he’d said his evening prayers, which were mostly saying thank You to God for giving him such a ridiculously simple task to get into one of the best clubs on campus, he fell asleep with happy visions of what was ahead for him after the guys allowed him to join them and make him one of the gang.

About midnight, Frank was awakened by the sound of something attempting to open up the front door which was securely locked and bolted shut.  The jiggling noise scared him.  Then he heard an eerie, moaning voice say, “The Veeda- Voasha is coming  Oh, the Veenda Voasha is coming

Frank ran around the house, locking all the doors and windows securely, but the voice still continued closer and closer moaning, “The Veenda-Voasha is coming!  Oh, the Veenda Voasha is coming!”

Since he still didn’t believe in paranormal activities, he wasn’t all that worried about the strange and frightening noise that was coming from outside his new temporary house, but just to be on the safe side, he considered it only prudent to barricade the front door, which he did by shoving all his belongings against it, but the voice still kept saying, “The Veenda-Vosha is coming!  Oh, the Veenda-Vosha is coming!”

Poor Frank ran around the house trying desperately to find something big enough to barricade his bedroom door, but the sound of that voice continued drift throughout the whole house saying, “The Veenda Voasha is coming!  Aw, The Veendda Voasha is coming!”

By then Fearless-Frank was about to have a heart attack, even though he was just 19 years-old.  He tried desperately to barricade the bedroom door where he was trapped behind.  He quickly pushed the huge bed to block the door from the monsters who were following him through the house.  Still he heard the voices moaning, “The Veenda Voasha is coming!  Oh, the Veenda-Voasha is coming!”

Th student whom everybody referred to as, “Fearless-Frank,” wanted to have a different nickname by then, opened his mouth to scream but no sound would come out.  He was too scared to make any noise or movements.  Suddenly the sound of every monster commenced to singing in chorus, “The Veenda-Voasha is here!  The Veenda-Voasha is here!” followed by a different sound of strange creatures all making their happy groaning sounds.  Poor Fearless-Frank was about to have a heart-attack by that  time, even though he was only 17 years-old.  Just then the locked front door slowly creaked open.

All of a sudden, a little 4-foot-6 man stepped in through the front door, smiled, and announced quite happily, “Hello!  I am da Veenda-Voasha!  I come to voash your vendas!!!!”
