My Partner in Crime- My Sister
“Hey there, wait I am coming Riya”, said Trisha, my younger sister rushing out, as I opened the door of our Apartment.
We are twins by the way, just because I came into this world 5 minutes early, I am the elder one. But she is the bolder one. I am an introvert and she is an extrovert. And she is over-protective about me.
Parents died when we were just 14. The outrageous accident still sends shivers down the spine.
Since then we have been on our own.
Apart from both of us, I have a friend named Adarsh who has been with me through thick and thin. We have been with each other since childhood and are best buddies. His parents also died in the same car accident as my Parents.
We were also there in the car (Innova), but somehow both of us survived.
He is not very fond of Trisha, so he doesn’t talk to her or about her.
Trisha knows that he doesn’t like her, so she also stays away from him. She has her own circle and is too busy with them to care about Adarsh.
The only common thing about Trisha and Adarsh is that they both love me a lot.
“Late as usual,” I said shaking my head and shutting the door of my apartment.
Then we both hopped into our car and drove off to college.
We are in graduation 2nd year and by god’s grace Parents have left behind enough money that we can live comfortably for the rest of our lives.
After reaching college, Trisha kissed me goodbye and went to her friends. I as usual walked towards the canteen, where Adarsh was waiting for me.
“Hi Riya, how are you today? You look wonderful in Blue” said Adarsh, as I took a seat beside him.
“Really, thank you” I smiled.
“Did you complete the presentation, that we had to make for Economics? It’s your turn to present it in the class today” said Adarsh.
“Yes, I did. It’s complete. I am just a bit nervous to present it in front of everybody” I said.
“Oh come on Riya, I know you will do it just fine, he said building up my morale.
“Hope so” I smiled,” You mind if I quickly give you a brief-up of the presentation? There is still some time left for the class.
“Sure”, he said.
And then we practised for 15 minutes before heading into the class.
As decided, within minutes I was in front of the class giving my presentation. The whole time I kept my eyes on Adarsh only. His eyes have this amazing tendency to calm my throbbing nerves. I feel relaxed and safe around him.
The presentation went so well that the teacher called for a round of applause.
I was on cloud Nine. This indeed called for a party. I went and sat next to Aadarsh.
“Wel Done” he smiled
“Thanks”, I blushed.”His every word sends tingles down my whole being. I know I love him a lot. Just that I have not confessed that to date.
“Party?” he raised his eyebrows.
“Sure, dinner tonight at Anthony’s. What say”? I said
“Lovely, I have something special to tell you also”, he said.
“Sure then, come to the hotel sharp at 8:00”, my smile was not leaving my face. Was it the day that I had been waiting for?
After college, I went straight to the beauty parlour to get myself dolled up. It was a special day after all.
Had he finally decided to break the silence between us and move a step ahead of friendship?
Thinking of the beautiful night ahead, my happiness knew no bounds.
After the parlour, I went home. It was already 7:00 PM. I changed into a beautiful black dress which went up to my knees. The hairdo and makeup were already set, so it didn’t take much time, for my final ado.
The reflection in the mirror showed a different girl only. A girl much happier, a girl much prettier.
Trisha smiled and wished me all the best. She was very happy for me. She knew I loved Aadarsh a lot. She was happy to see me happy.
With the final look at the mirror, I walked out of my apartment and drove to Anthony’s.
I reached Anthony’s before 8:00 pm. Adarsh had not arrived yet. So I took a seat and ordered a mocktail to kill the time of wait.
After around 12 minutes and 43 seconds, Adarsh walked in, in all his glory.
I stood up to greet him when I noticed that he was not alone. There was a girl who walked beside him, hands in hands.
“Hey Riya, I told you I had something important to tell you. I thought why not make you meet that someone important, rather than tell you about her”. he smiled. “Meet Pihu, the love of my life”.
Shattered.
Emotions, Feelings, Dreams, Desires, Love, Everything shattered into a million pieces with just one blow.
I tried to control the plethora of emotions running inside my heart. The whirlpool was at its peak. Not able to control it any longer, tears first brimmed the surface of my eyes and then left without my consent and without a halt.
I quickly left the place without even turning back to listen to Adarsh. I could not hear him only. Though I knew he was too shocked at my reaction and was worried to the T.
I cried myself to sleep that night.
The next morning, I gathered myself up. Not everything in life goes as planned. Life has to move on. Moreover, I cannot afford to lose a friend like Aadarsh.
I went to college and came to know that Aadarsh had not come. I called him up and he told me that he was in the hospital. Pihu was in a very serious condition.
I kept my phone down and within minutes I was in the hospital.
There Adarsh and Pihu’s Parents were crying like hell.
“What happened Aadarsh?” I asked.
“ I don’t know Riya. After you left the restaurant I was worried about you so I booked Pihu a taxi to drop her home so that I can come and ask you. But you didn’t open the door only. After a few hours, I got a call from the hospital that Pihu was brutally injured,”
He was talking to me when the doctor came and told us that Pihu is no more. We all rushed inside. Only then I saw her face, it was slashed several times. There were injuries all over her body. As if someone had taken some kind of revenge on her.
Then it struck- TRISHA
The police soon arrived and asked Aadarsh who was he to Pihu? He told them he was a friend.
Then they asked me who was I?
Aadarsh on my behalf replied that I was his friend. The Police asked us about our Parents to which he replied that they were no more and that we were single children to our Parents.
After the routine investigation, I went home.
I came face to face with Trisha- the reflection in my mirror.
Trisha had died in the car accident with my parents, but I had kept her alive in my thoughts.
The Knife covered with bloodstains still laid on the Dressing Table.
Today the reflection in the mirror showed a girl much uglier, a girl more hideous.
Is everything fair in Love?

Hey there! Up for some constructive criticism? I assume that "My Partner in Crime- My Sister" is what was supposed to be the title of your story, but you put it in the body of your story! While writing your story in the main box, if you look up there are the topics that I see you've added, and then there's the title box. Put it up there next time! Let's take a look at sentence number one. "“Hey there, wait I am coming Riya”, said Trisha, my younger sister rushing out, as I opened the door of our Apartment." I would have made the dialogue...
