Fiction Teens & Young Adult Bedtime

Years rolled and time-lapsed. People say everything in this world is temporary and just a passing cloud, but in my life, there was one permanent, time-tested thing- our relationship and the footprints of the pain we survived to lead a peaceful life. I and my husband met when we were 14 years old and we were best friends for years but we both know very little that our relationship will turn from friendship to love, a true and deep one.

This is our story. We realised our bond in the middle of an infamous riot-The India’s partition. Then we lived a poor life in a refuge camp, drowning ourself in the sorrow of the lives we lost. My parents went to Pakistan while my husband’s parent came to the south of India. After a lot of struggles, we started a company and now we are one of the top 10 rich people in India.

Even after archiving all this, there is still some pain and burden in our heart.Somedays I used to think about what could have happened if I had chosen Pakistan rather than India.Somedays I could think of an imaginary conversation between me and my parents or my younger brother who was everything to me.Even more than my parents.I miss the little chuckles of him and his glowing, smiling face and the unforgettable unconditional love he has for me. We used to play for hours in our backyard; the weather doesn’t matter for us it’s always playtime.I still remember the aroma of Sheer khurma that my mom used to make for Ramadan.

That doesn’t mean I am not happy now.I chose this life with love and that took us here. Even though life became a peaceful and cheerful couple of years after partition the struggle we experienced to come stays in our heart. It’s true that once we cause damage we can’t completely cure the scare of the damage will always stay.

Today is our 30th Wedding anniversary and we both are nearly 55 years old. Yes, time runs faster than we can ever think of. Even though we celebrated our anniversary with both our children, we have party tonight just for namesake calling all our business clients and office staffs.

“Is this the dress Arjun and brought you for your last birthday?”Kushal asked.

“Yup u know I love silk sarees that too light blue, I won’t say no at all” Aisha replied.

“So all ready,” He asked.

“Decorations-done, food- ordered and dancers are on the way ”she replied.

“Are dancers necessary for today’s party?”Kushal asked.

“Listen to me this party is not for us it’s an occasion where we can get a better bond with our clients”She replied.

“Hmm,” Kushal sighed.

“Now stop making all those sounds and get ready for the party” Aisha ordered.

“I am ready” He replied.

“Hmm… suit looks good, but you didn’t tie properly” she unravelled his tie and tied it again.

“I did so you will tie it for me”He said. Aisha gave him a known glance.

“You will never change” Aisha replied.

“What’s wrong with you you look a bit distracted,”He asked.

“Nope, all good” she replied.

“I know you better than you so stop lying”he replied.

“Ok, don’t get angry but… I was thinking about my brother” Aisha said.

“The family who left you” he said.

“I left and not them”vshe replied.

“Okay, you know anything about Pradeep”she asked.

“I am trying honey, but who thought he will leave the house just because I asked him to be responsible”

“Maybe you were a bit rude”she replied.

“So in this house I can’t even scold my own son, come on support me at least during our anniversary”Kushal said.

“okok I will try”she laughed.

“You know he should learn something from Arjun and Priya, Aryan is taking care our company while Priya is just going to complete her higher studies but she got a high position in ISRO”he said.

“Priya’s interest in physics is something rare and yeah I get it Arjun is talking care of the company really well giving us some time to breathe but Pradeep is special in his one way. Why are you not realising that”Aisha asked.

“Ok let’s not fight now everyone is waiting for us downstairs”he said. They both went down together and Priya came running towards Kushal and gave him a big bear hug. Kushal and Aisha together gave a welcoming speech thanking everyone for coming and then a group of dancers performed an amazing dance and during dinner time,

“Hello Mr Kushal Prashant, I think you remember me” Darsh Upptal said.

“Of course sir I am really honoured to have a person like you to my party. I am still waiting for your reply”Kushal replied.

“Yeah, before coming to that I want to give a speech,”He replied.

“It could be our honour sir”Kushal replied.

“Hello, ladies and gentleman I could like to to use this opportunity to wish the couple happy anniversary and also break news to everyone present here.We all know that this couple is trying to have a partner with our company. The no. 1 company in India Upptal Multinational Company and in this beautiful occasion I would like to give my reply to this wonderful couple and the reply is yes. From tomorrow onwards both the companies is going to be in partnership with each other”Darsh said to everyone.

Everyone gave a huge round of applause and wished the couple a further happy life. After the party, the family spent some quality time together celebrating the success of their company.

“It’s going to a huge thing to have a partnership with a company like that”Arjun said.

“It would have been even better if Pradeep was there”Aisha said.

“Mom he left us without even informing us”Priya yelled.

“Even I did”Aisha replied.

“That’s different you left home to begin a new life”Kushal said.

“Even he left for the same thing”She replied.

“But..” Before he could finish the sentence, someone interrupted him.

“Hi Amma, hi Appa”Pradeep said.Aisha ran to him and slapped him multiple times.

“How could you leave us like that”Aisha yelled.

“Mom I am so sorry, I know travelling and writing books about it is not a very good job but I love it and I want to do what I like in life”Praddep said.

“No one is going to stop you from being happy but you could have informed us about this right, you just left us and went ”Kushal yelled at him.

“I know I know I made a mistake, and I did something to make up for that”Praddep replied.

“What did you did”Aisha asked.

“Uncle come”he said and there he was my brother, my protector, my best friend and the only person who can replace my parents, there he was smiling with his as always glowing face. He looked at me and it went straight to my soul-satisfying the thirst I had for all these years.I always wanted to meet my family and there he was. He came straight to me and gave me a hug.The love I had towards him poured out as cry and then I realized love is not only between lovers or couples but it’s between everyone it’s the prime source of humanity. If we really care for someone even after losing contact with them then it’s love which keeps us together. Love exists from the day one when our Mother held us to eternity. Even death can’t erase it and the moment I saw him I realised love is suffice for the world’s existence and no boundaries can divide it.

Great job on your story! I loved the couple's banter as they were getting ready for their anniversary party. I also really liked that their son showed up to surprise them with his uncle. It was a really great message about the power of love. Excellent work!
