Middle School Sad Suspense

It was quiet. Quiet. I looked at the blanket of snow covering the ground. Piles of snow fell off my house. The rain tickled the trees as the force of wind glided past me, and there I was. Shivering...My nose was bright red. More like a ripe tomato. My feet sunk into the cold, freezing, snow. The snow grew so tall it covered my ankles making it hard to even move. I struggled trying to walk, every step I made I drop right on my knees. Then pitch black darkness.....The afternoon disappeared, and the night made its appearance. I just stood there, waiting, waiting, and waiting, then I took my deep breath. "Time to come in!" Said mother, coming from the kitchen. It took me a while to recover from the snow, then I walked home. Every step I take, takes 2 seconds to make another step. It was like glue sticking to the bottom of my boots. I quickly made it home, and shut the door behind me. It was very tepid in my home, however outside was just very cold. The coldness from outside made my nose and ears numb, I went into my bedroom and layed on top of my bed. My arms and legs were spreaded out, I just looked at the ceiling for hours, and hours until I couldn't look any more. I thought what my mother tells me everyday when I am upset "When it rains look for rainbows, when it is dark, look for stars" , that was my favorite line. My tummy was growly so I got out of bed, and walked out of my room. I quickly sat at the kitchen table, and took big bites of my fried chicken, and took little bites of my mash potatoes, and didn't eat my greens at all. The inside of the chicken was so juicy, and mouth-watering, the mashed potatoes were so fluffy and airy, but the greens were nothing to my liking. I took another bite of my chicken, and wiped my mouth with a cloth.

I took a deep breath. "Mother, I would like to go back outside for a little while" I said with my hand on her shoulder. She wiped her mouth with a cloth. "What do you see?" She said. "Snow? Rain?"

"Exactly, snow and rain. You can get very sick if your not careful"

"Then I will be careful mother, it will only be a few minutes"

"Go"

"thank you mother"

I hurried and grabbed my things, so I can go outside.

I was outside, and I stood while the wind just breezed right by me. The trees sang with laughter. The wind whistled through the night. The snow became deeper, and deeper. Until I felt like I was one with the earth, but my connection broke when I heard rustling sounds in the bushes. I went closer and closer. Until it sprung at me. I took a deep breath, and became calm. It was a snow leopard, but it was a baby one. It had dark blue eyes, it almost looked like two blue sapphires. "Hi little guy" I said, wiping all the snow off me. I wonder where her mamma is. I also wonder what the heck is a leopard kitten doing on my part. I thought on what I should do with it, as I was thinking the kitten just kept playing with the snow. SOOO adorable. It was so tiny I just hid it under my shirt. I don't know what to with her/him. It was fussy was I read it a poem my Grammy used to tell me. Here is goes. "Whose woods these are I think I know.

His house is in the village though;

He will not see me stopping here

To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer

To stop without a farmhouse near

Between the woods and frozen lake

The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake

To ask if there is some mistake.

The only other sound’s the sweep

Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I....sleep" I said rubbing the kitten's belly. "You like that don't you?" I continued. The kitten made the cutest purr.

I decide to tell her/him more poems.

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,

And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,

And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,

And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a gray dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide

Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;

And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,

And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,

To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;

And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,

And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over" I said. That poem was what my mother told me.

I think I will keep this kitten as my pet. I just hope mother wont be mad at me. I took the cute kitten inside, trying not to make mother suspect anything, but she caught me. "WHAT IS THAT THING" Mother cried. "Its just a kitten mother" I said. "Hunny you will be fine, we can keep that kitten in the back yard" Dad said. "That thing better not be in this house. EVER"Mother said furiously. I quickly put the kitten in the backyard. "Bye little guy, Its time for me to go to bed, I will fee you tomorrow" I said giving it a kiss goodbye.
