I live in a world, where only I exist. Time is nonexistent. No one else is here. Only me and a vast area of land. I think I am alone. Oh wait. There is an old lady. She seems to have bad eyesight, bad hearing, and walks with a limp in her right foot. Her hair is thin, and pale. I don’t like her. Not one bit.
Every day, she follows me around. It is annoying. Irritating. I wish she will go away. But she doesn’t. The old woman is trying to tell me something. But I don’t listen to her. Not that crazy old lady.
She keeps making a weird sound. I ignore her as best as I can. She makes a wild gesture. This is creeping me out. I walk away as fast as I can. She comes up to me with lightning speed, and grabs my arm. I tear it away, and sprint toward the horizon. I don’t know where I am going. I just want to get away from that old lady.
Days go by. The old lady keeps following me. I yell at her, glare at her, try to make her retreat. Finally, she seems to give up, and doesn’t follow me around as much. Today, she stops talking to me. And that’s when I start to lose my hearing. Perhaps it is because she has ceased to make any sound, and there is nothing else to form sound around here. Maybe my ears are out of practice. I try to hum a bit, but for some reason, my voice sounds a bit hoarse. Weird.
I am trying to make noise. Anything, to help my ears get better. I stomp on the ground. I keep stomping. Harder, HARDER. Crack.
Pain. Pain is all I feel now. It is like a fire, coming from my right ankle, and engulfing me. There is no way to escape from this. I must get away, away from all this. I try to walk. I trip. I hop on my left foot. But I am afraid of injuring it too. I slowly put down my right foot, and one foot after the other, I limp towards home.
I do not know how to cure my right ankle. The pain has lessened, but if I put too much pressure on it, it starts hurting again. I closely examine my swollen ankle. It starts to get a bit hazy. I look around. Everything is a bit unclear to me. I scribble a frog on the ground. I can’t make it out. My eyes. What is happening to my eyes? I scratch my head, and suddenly stop. I grab a handful of my hair, and closely examine it. I cannot make much of it, except it is now white and thin. Slowly, I put the pieces together. The girl. I must find the girl. I go outside to look for her.
I search for days and days. Nothing. I go back to my home, and there, sitting on the ground, is me. I can tell, even though my eyesight has gotten worse. All of a sudden, I realize something. I had treated that old lady unkindly, and this is the consequence. I must go tell her, must go tell her to not take the same path as I did. I go up to her. She looks at me. I try to talk, but it sounds inhuman. She stares at me, and gets up. She walks away. I follow her, and try to talk to her. She is ignoring me.
Every day, I follow her, try to warn her to stop, to not do what I had done. She keeps ignoring me. I can’t take it anymore. If I don’t do something soon, I might lose my eyesight, and won’t be able to find her. I run towards the girl, and grab her arm. I try to say, “Please,” but she tears her arm away, and starts running.
I keep following her, each day. I see her now. She is very far away from me. This seems crazy to me. How can I see so far? I look around. Everything’s a bit clearer. I laugh. I can hear too! Just a bit better, but it’s an improvement. I stop following her. Over time, she gets more distant. I get more distant. What use is warning her, if I’m getting better?
Each day, my hearing and eyesight improves. I can walk too. My ankle is getting better. My hair gradually gets its color back. But one thing is getting worse. My memory. Each day I wake up, it takes a little longer to remember things. What if I wake up one day, and forget everything? I go to bed. I hope and pray that I’ll remember tomorrow. Then. I close my eyes.

Deja vu. I would have continued on if I didn’t think, “I feel like this has happened.” I am not sure if it has. Perhaps it really has happened, I just forgot. I must try to break out of this loop. What would I have done if I hadn’t felt that deja vu? I would have probably ignored her and cherish my health. But no. I mustn’t do that. Hmm. First, I can pay her a visit. I get up, and start looking for her. A while later, I find her. She is stomping on the ground. Oh no! She will break her ankle. I am sure of it. I hurry over, and put a hand on her shoulder. She whips around to face me. Her eyes are wild, her hair is graying, but her foot is not injured. Yet. My voice is a bit better, my hearing too.
“Don’t stomp on the ground- you’ll injure yourself,” I say. She cocks her head. I don’t think she can hear me well.
“Don’t stomp on the ground- you’ll injure yourself,” I repeat, raising my voice. She nods. She stops stomping. She smiles at me. We look about the same, but as the days go by, she gets older, and I get younger. At least she isn’t limping anymore.
Funny. My memory is fading. What if I lose my memory completely, and forget about this? I mustn’t forget. I can’t. But, one day, as I go to sleep…

I am trying to make noise. Anything, to help my ears get better. I stomp on the ground. I keep stomping. Harder, HARDER. Thud. A hand lands on my shoulder. I turn around, and there, the old lady stands. Except she looks different. Her hair is less pale and thin, and she looks younger. The woman says something, but I don’t understand it. She speaks, a little louder, “Don’t stomp on the ground- you’ll injure yourself.” I nod. I stop stomping. And, besides, I had only wanted to make some noise, but now she did the job for me.
Later on, I realize that everything is starting to become a bit hazy. I scribble a frog on the ground. I can’t make it out. My eyes. What is happening to my eyes? I go and put a hand on her shoulder. She turns towards me, and at first she can’t hear what I say, but when I say it a bit louder, she understands. I walk back with her to her home, and over the next few days, we become friends. I watch as she gets older, comfort her when her eyesight becomes bad. She is there as I get younger, as my memory gets worse, but one day we part. I must go back to my home to rest, and she must go rest too. I go to bed, and then fall asleep.
