Shattered Dreams: Volume One: Sunless Sunny

May first 2000 12 am The Corridor behind the sheep painting house 666 Devil's street

If I am found dead in the morning it was the demon in the shower.

Chapter One

"Mom this house looks like someone burnt half of it down and then put a crazy person in the other!" Eve Violet Twilight complained "and it's haunted! The address is 666 DEVIL'S STREET FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!"

"It's just a coincidence!" Her mother Zoe Jade Twilight responded getting annoyed.

"Fine where's my room?" Eve grumbled more annoyed than her mother

"Upstairs follow the ." Her mother explained slowly

"I'm not a toddler! you don't need to do that anymore!" Eve shouted then stormed into the house before her mother could retaliate. She followed the instructions but in the first hallway on the right she felt a breeze from behind a painting of a sheep she lifted the corner and the breeze grew stronger blowing her curly red hair and she straightened her purple silver speckled glasses. Behind the painting was a corridor. The corridor reeked of mold and dust mingled with her freckles. She saw a few doors and a light switch she reached for it and her hand touched something leathery she picked up a leather bound book that was intideled Shattered Dreams Volume One Sunless Sunny

Eve was about to open the book when her mother called from the first floor "Did you find it?"

"Find what?" Eve called back afraid her mother knew about the secret corridor.

"your room, silly!" Her mother called back Eve sighed her secret was still safe.

"No." She answered

"first hallway on the right and then turn left and your room is the only room in that hallway." Her mother recited

"Got it!" Eve called back hoping she could find a place to hide her book. She walked down to the room and saw a plethora of hiding places. She found a chest in the back corner with a false bottom and placed the book next to another that said Shattered Dreams Volume Two The Prophecy Of Sunless Sunny but Eve din't have much time for that so she decided to read them later and finished unpacking her stuff. And last but not least she thought I put my books here! as she placed all her books in the chest with the false bottom maybe this house isn't so bad after all.

"HONEY!" Zoe yelled from downstairs "DINNER TIME!" It took Eve a minute to remember the way back to the dining room and thought she felt breezes from behind many paintings but did not bother to check them just yet. When she finally made it back down she saw cereal boxes all over the table.

"So Mom what do you know about the guy who lived here before?"

"He was found dead in his bed on May second 2000. His name was Edwin Ralph Clerk. He was highly superstitious and no one could determine the cause of death the only clue was a note he had in his hand when they examined him."

"What did it say?" Eve asked impatiently

"If i am found dead it was the demon in the shower. It was addressed to this house and it said it was written in "the corridor behind the sheep painting" but they checked all of the paintings in the house and found no corridor."

"But, Mom I did!" Eve spoke so suddenly she even scared herself "There was a diary it was something like Shattered Dreams Volume One Sunless Sunny that was all it said on the cover and I didn't look inside of it. I hid it in my room come on dinner can wait this is important!" Eve hadn't even finished talking when she sprung up from her seat and bolted up the stairs and made the turns but in the doorway of her room she saw a shadowy thing in her doorway. It looked human but not really human. It had three fingers and looked like it was female. All of her color could have been done with a pencil. She appeared to be walking on her three fingers and her neck sprouted from her shoulder

"Hello I am The Demon In The Corridor." The creature said in a raspy voice its grin growing.

Chapter Two

Eve screamed. The creature disappeared. Her mother ran up the stairs and saw a chewed up bird with blood everywhere lying on the floor.

"is that what scared you?" Zoe asked

"No The Demon In The Corridor was right there. She said she was The Demon In The Corridor at least but maybe she was the Demon In The Shower..."

"Do you want to sleep in my room?" Her mother asked gently

"Yes." Eve spoke quickly and without hesitation. They went into Eve's room and realized it probably was a good thing they hadn't eaten yet. The wall was covered in blood the words Leave well you still can mortals was written over and over and over again and again and again.

"Maybe we should do what the demons say?" Eve asked quietly

"Yeah probably. Lets pack and run." Her mother agreed.

"the diarys?" Eve asked

"the authorities." her mother answered

"yep." Eve said throwing her things into her suitcase quickly. Until the last thing was the chest with the false bottom. She shoved her books into the suitcase and pried the bottom up. She removed the diarys when something caught her eye. A note. she unfolded it

you can run but we are the shadows themselves

"Ummm Mom?" Eve spoke in a whisper

"yeah?" her mother spoke in the same hushed tone

"look." she said handing her mother the note

"well...that's.....interesting........"

yeah interesting Eve thought bitterly

"let's give that to the authorities too."

"ok" Eve whispered after Eve's room was empty they moved to her mothers and quickly threw everything into her suitcase.

"where are we going to go?" Eve asked

"a hotel." her mother answered

"ok that works. I mean it's better than living with... DEMONS!" Eve screamed as another shadowy person stepped through the door a knife in hand.

"We were just leaving actually." Zoe spoke to the demon calmly as though it were not about to kill her.

"No. You can stay we are nice I was only making dinner for you!"

"Really?" Eve asked

"OF COURSE NOT YOU CAN'T LEAVE ALIVE! EDWIN THOUGHT HE COULD HELP US SICK PEOPLE WHEN INSTEAD HE FORCED US TO BE THESE UGLY BEASTS!"

"But I don't think you're hideous. I think you're quite pretty actually."

"Really?" the demon spoke softer

"Yes. now can you please let us leave?"

"No. The diary has a spell to free us." He said much calmer

"Here." Eve said handing him the diarys.

he flipped to the second page and recited a spell in a language Eve didn't understand. Then through the only window in the room Eve saw the sun go from sunset to noon. the demon smiled

"gullible humans. Now day will reign forever.
