The Peculiar Adventures of a Tribe of Spiders

Written in response to: "Write a story involving a character who cannot return home."

Suspense Adventure Friendship

Spinsel Walter sat comfortably in his little dirt house and as a matter of fact, so did the other spiders. They were neighbours, who hardly interacted with each other and mostly kept to themselves. Every now and then however, if the situation called for it they would all gather around a small dank wooden platform located in a garden and discuss how they would work together to solve whatever predicament bothered them.

This month however, was the most chaotic month ever to have occurred, and no organised planning could help prepare the spiders for what they were about to encounter.

Spinsel Walter (as mentioned before) sat comfortably in his little dirt house. All the other spiders also sat quite comfortably inviting the other spiders for mosquito legs and a nice cup of wasps blood. Spinsel was the only one who sat alone in his home enjoying his own hoard of food which he had worked hard to collect for quite some time.

This quiet atmosphere would soon be interrupted as an enormous splash of water rained down on their houses destroying and causing the roofing (which was made out of fine dirt) to collapse into their homes. Quickly, the spiders whose homes were destroyed managed to escape just in the nick of time as all their mosquito legs and cups of wasps blood were buried under mounds of dirt.

Looking up they saw an enormous green snake with a gaping hole protruding from its head. It vomited powerful projectiles of splashing cold water onto all their homes as they screamed and ran on their tiny little legs. Quickly the spiders looked for a temporary home and found one. The only dirt house which was not destroyed by the monstrous snake thing, Spinsel's home.

Spinsel was sitting quietly, doing nothing in particular except pondering the weather, when suddenly, several spiders barged into his home. Quite upset that his door had been run over and in its place remained a giant gaping hole, Spinsel scolded them.

"Woah there, what's all this ruckus for?" asked Spinsel.

"Well, to put it briefly, there is a giant snake monster with a gaping hole in its face projectile vomiting copious amounts of cold water onto our homes and we're taking shelter in your home for the time being while we wait for it to stop." Replied one of the spiders.

"Oh. Well in that case feel free to have some of my food."

Slowly the spiders began crawling over his food chewing greedily at whatever they could get their sticky little hands on. After all the food was done they let out little belches and fell asleep. Right after that, the roof began to collapse and the spiders awoke with a start.

"It's back," yelled one of the spiders "run!"

Quickly they all barged outside the gaping hole just as the house collapsed and ran under (what seemed to them) a colossal tree.

"Well," said one of the spiders "this is very awkward."

"Indeed it is." replied another.

"What are we going to do now?" Asked Spinsel.

"Look over there." Said one of the spiders.

Far out into the distance they saw an enormous box made of wood (also known as a house) and two glass panes (also known as a window) with light emitting out of it. And so, after the giant green snake monster stopped spitting out cold water they traversed and made their journey to the box.

"Look" said one of the spiders pointing with one of his limbs.

A cockorach lay upright on a piece of paper wriggling it's legs in broad daylight almost mocking the spiders.

"So, which one of us is going to get that cockroach?"

"I think it should be Spinsel."

"Why me?" Asked Spinsel.

"Because," replied a spider "you gave us hope for food and shelter and then... umm... well, then there was no food and shelter, so you owe it to use to get us some food."

Spinsel begrudignly agreed and went under the window through a small gap. After he made it through he was about to wrap up the cockroach in a web for the other spiders when suddenly he realised he couldn't get his other limbs off the paper. Then out of nowhere a huge glass encapsulated Spinsel and the cockroach.

"Haha, you silly old fool. He's got you too." Mocked the cockroach.

"Oh, shut up." Replied Spinsel.

Slowly they both felt a light floating sensation as an enormous human hand picked the both of them up and moved them into a glass box. The other spiders watched in horror as they saw their brave friend being captured. Quickly they too went through the small gap underneath the window to help their comrade.

"Where is he taking us?" Asked Spinsel.

"What you don't know? Well, aren't you in for a surprise?" Replied the cockaroach.

For a moment, time seemed to stop as they were both placed in a glass cage and then gently a gloved hand quickly pulled the spider off the sticky paper so that he was free to roam around. Before he could do anything with the cockroach the hand pulled the paper back up and he watched as his one shot of freedom in the form of a gaping hole above him shut closed as a glass lid covered it.

"Okay, science experiment test subject five." Said the god-like voice. "Let's see, we have a tarantula and ummm... what's the other one called? Oh yes, a generic lizard of unknown species. Well, this will be fun."

The rest of the spiders looked around the colossal room. They couldn't help but talk all at once.

"Very toasty."

"I've seen bigger."

"Where's the food?"

"I'm tired."

"God this happens every Sunday."

"What time is it?"

And so on and so forth.

They looked around and found a enormous god-like creature towering over them. Luckily for the spiders the enormous creature failed to notice them whilst it emptied what appeared to be a small glass cylinder into an enormous glass cage.

The lizard fell with a thump.

"Ouch." said the lizard as it landed on it's feet.

Spinsel kept very still. He heard about lizards before, and they were the worst. They always ate spiders, acted like they owned the place and even worse, when they were at the shops they would have multiple food samples and would then leave said shop without bothering to pay. Slowly the lizard gathered it's surroundings before finally noticing the spider trapped inside of the enclosure with him.

The rest of the spiders were looking around and discussed what the collosal god-like creature might be.

"What is it?"

"I think it's a humon."

"What's a humon?"

"I don't know... I think (and this is from what I've heard) they have fake arguments in their head and sometimes wear the same clothes two days in a row... oh, also they like crosswords."

The other spiders were quite impressed as having fake arguments in your head probably meant you were prepared for any situation.

"Well, should we attack him?"

"Look at the size of him."

"I just want to go home."

"Let's just leave."

The other spiders agreed with this last statement, but as they turned around the god-like noticed them.

Spinsel and the lizard both stared at each other.

"Well, what are you looking at?" Said Spinsel.

"What are you looking at?" Replied the lizard.

"What are you looking a-" Suddenly an enormous elbow from the god-like creature pushed the glass cage off the table and they both fell for what seemed like a very long time.

The human upon seeing the tarantulas roaming freely in his house fainted out of fear and knocked his head onto a corner of the table before falling over onto the floor and knocking the cage onto the ground.

"What" Said the first spider.

"Just" Said the second spider.

"Happened?" Asked the third spider.

After reuniting the spiders all gathered around Spinsel and checked to see if he was okay. Fortunately, to the other spiders relief the only damage that had been done to Spinsel were three broken legs. The lizard however, had died from a heart attack.

*

Before the god-like creature could get up, the spiders had decided (under Spinsel's command) that they were to hide in a place where according to them no humon would every think to check, an enormous gap behind a large book titled "The History of Taxes."

*

It was now December and the spiders gathered around the cookies and milk.

While the spiders could never go back to their homes they didn't complain. All was good, and it almost felt like an adventure everytime the god-like creature left it's house as they scavenged through slightly opened cupboards looking for food. They were careful to only ever take a little bit at a time.

And so, the spiders lived happily ever after eating food and going on adventurous and they were never attacked or captured by a giant green snake monster or a god-like creature, ever again.
