I walked up to the plane. The best feeling came to me as I my seat, it was like I was going home! When I was 8 my parents took me to an Island in Canada, we sailed there on a rented boat, and hiked to the very top of the little island. My parents told me before hand that there was no reception or electricity, so it would be good time to take a break and spend time in nature. That is the exact I am going back now 30 years later, I'm all about work on my laptop at home, this trip will help me remember to take a break. I would take the plane to the city closest to the lake the island was on, then go to the man who will rent me the boat. My seat is nice and comfy so I take out my headphones, put on some music and rest.
The next thing I know the airline pilot is making the announcement that we have started our landing. I race to the street and get Uber to take me to the renters house. "Thank you!" I say as I sail away to the Island. About an hour later I see something in the dissidence, "The Island!" I shout. A nice family helps me get a spot on deck and they teach me how to tie up.
As I get off the boat I realize there are more people who sail over here now, about 10 other boats, while when I came here there was only about 3 families. I introduce myself and make some small talk with the boat next to me. My neighbors and I are talking when a 12 year old boy comes over and asks the women, his mom, for a phone charger. What! I was so surprised when the mother told him where it was! I held back telling him to play outside because it was such a beautiful day out, but I knew other families think different.
I went for a hike the next day, at one point my phone started blowing up with text messages, emails, and notifications. Oh, this must be the only place there is reception. I tried to hold back from answering any of them, it was my tech free weekend. But I just had to, and for the rest of the weekend I went there just to respond to emails and texts.
I realized that it was too hard to not go on my phone now that I wasn't a kid in the 1980s. I'll definitely come back with my children and help them not be attracted to their phones'. Thomson Island will always be my home away from home, but a challenge like that will be too hard.
Note from the author:
This is a made up story but Thomson Island is a very fun place to visit in Canada, you diffidently want to bring your phone though because pictures of the view is a must! I hope this short story helped with anyone who has a phone addiction, you don't have to set a hard goal like never going on it, limit your time on it.
Thank You!

I did visit Thomson Island 2 years ago with my family. We buried the ashes of the Grandpa I never met at the top of the hill because he was a sailor and that was one of his favorite place to sail. Love you Grandpa Chris ❤
