Fiction

I don't know how long it's been, years, decades, centuries? My mind is a little foggy at this point, I have been here for so long. My stomach aches with hunger pains and my mouth is dry like sand. My muscles ached in pain. I try to wiggle my toes but to no avail. I am stuck in place like a prisoner, like a statue. As much as I would like to leave this place, I am tethered here. As the days go by monotonously, nothing changes. I have nothing except the power of my mind. I am taunted by the dull color of this grey stone. Being stuck in place can really stifle your creativity.

Throughout the years, I had learned to occupy my mind with grand stories to keep me entertained. My imagination would carry me to the realm of mythologies of ancient deities are imprisoned under rubble who are discovered by a curious mortal and their adventures. They sail the seas and fly through the air, they climb the tallest mountains and explore the deepest caves. Tales of heroism, tales of heroes defeating dragons and kings who lived lavish lives. Ancient stories of princesses battling beasts. Words upon words flowed out of my mouth building up worlds and stories.

I wish I could be free, I wish I could tell my own story, but alas, I am stuck, unable to do anything but wait and be patient for the right moment. One of these days I will be free, and I will be able to create my own fantastical story, my own romance. I will finally be free to pursue my ambitions and not be held back by this ghastly prison. I could be free to be a hero or a villain, maybe I’d have a secret lair and wreak havoc on the earth. Or maybe I’d be the one saving it. No matter what I did I would be happy because it was finally my choice. I would finally have a choice after all these years. But till then I had to be patient. Good things come to those who wait right?

Suddenly I heard a sound, like rubble being moved, accompanied by a scraping sound. I held my breath as I awaited the outcome. Did I finally have a chance to be free? Suddenly, the scraping noise got louder and louder until I heard a gasp. A part of my hand had been freed. As I wiggled my fingers, I grasped at the taste of freedom. I was being freed from my prison. In a matter of seconds, the rubble around my arm was thrown to the side and moved quickly. As soon as I saw it, I knew what it was.

Sunlight. My prison, under the heat of the sun, was bathed in a golden light. Oh, how I missed the sun, and the warm light it cast over the whole earth. There were many things that I missed. The water, the food, the feeling of a bath, and the people. It was amazing to hear people, their nonsensical babbling, and their tangents. the rubble around my head was moved and I gasped for air. I felt a cool breeze brush against my skin and my face broke into a smile as the cool air touched it. Suddenly I saw a woman looking down at me, her long, blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail. " Oh my gods, what are you doing there?". She had golden-brown skin and beautiful green eyes. Her eyes were like peridot, and her skin shone in the sunlight like a golden ray of light.

She grasped at the rubble left around me and I crawled out. My golden adornments hung loosely from my frail emaciated body the golden bangles clanking around but I didn’t care I was finally free. The golden light hit my body, My mouth stretched into a wide smile and I broke out in laughter. I was finally free this woman doesn’t know what she did. I was in that prison for a reason. No good deed goes unpunished and she was in for a hell of a punishment. The whole world was going to feel my wrath. Locking a deity away is not a crime that can go unpunished.

As I turned my attention back to the woman, she took a step back cautiously. Her body slumped to the ground, drained of all life, as I grasped her by the throat, squeezing her with all the strength my frail body could muster. As long as I was going to survive in this world, I needed clothes. I stripped the woman of her clothes and dressed. I took her hair tie and pulled back my long black hair into a ponytail. Taking her bag, I scanned the surrounding area with my eyes. All that was left was rubble and broken-down houses. As I looked out into the horizon, all I could see were trees. Clearly, human life cannot be that far out of reach if this woman were to be here.

Then I decided which direction I would walk in, and I began to explore the forest. It was a beautiful day and the trees were tall and reaching for the sun. The vegetation in the area was full of wildflowers of all colors. The earth, oh, how I have missed it! The Freedom was finally mine and I was not going to let it be taken away from me again. I was going to make everyone pay for what they did.

Suddenly, there were voices, talking. As soon as I heard the voices, I ran toward them. The trees thinned and the vegetation turned to concrete. The only thing I could see when I looked up were big concrete buildings. The sky was lit up with artificial light and people were walking to and fro. So this is what happened to the earth while I was gone. I rather like it, I am going to make it all mine.
