Adventure Contemporary Holiday

Cayden's father laughed like a hoon, saying loudly, "Twits on tour!" The family car left the driveway, as Cayden did roll his eyes, as he yelled, "Plant the foot, Dad."

His Dad zoomed away from home, this was a boys' own adventure approaching. Cayden had already switched on his digitally enhanced phone, while his two best mates, Cuz and Jaz, were listening to their music.

The three boys in the back seat all grinned and gave his Dad the thumbs up. They were off! Summer holidays were here again. It was time for summer shorts, swimmers, T-shirts. Yes, the twits on tour were going to the beach for a holiday. Great, a beach house right on the bay. The males had agreed that Cayden's Mum could come along with them, she could sort their washing and food. That was very kind of them.

"Are we there yet?..... When is the beach?" Two and half hours later, even Cayden's Dad was over this long drive.

"Can we stop for a drink?" Cayden asked, "I'm thirsty.

"Never mind," his Mum told them, she did not want the boys to drink too much in the car. Finally, they arrived, after driving past the sparkling, shining sea at the bay. Cayden and his mates could barely wait until the car pulled up in the driveway of the seaside holiday house. They were supposed to be unpacking the car for Cayden's Dad, but so much for that.

Eagerly, the three boys ran across the hot golden sand, pausing only to take off their joggers and socks. It was a race to head straight into the inviting water for a swim. Cayden's parents were left to do all the work. But the boys did not care. They pretended not to hear when his Mum started calling them to return,

"I am sure their ears are sold separately!" she sounded very hot and cross.

Cayden, Cuz and Jaz swam races as best they could. Then they paddled, splashed, laughed, and dived down to the seabed, to discover shells and all sorts of seaweed. Jaz tried to catch some crabs, but the little creatures were too nippy and fast for him.

Some time later, Cayden's Mum and Dad appeared in their shorts on the beach.

"You can stop hiding in the water now. Lovely beach house, come and check your bedroom. Plus there's fish and fries for dinner."

Cayden and his pals were always starving, "Yah!" "Cool!"

"Best fish and chips forever," Cuz sighed, patting his now fat stomach. Jaz burped, too tired to comment. Cayden had picked up his phone again. He was working on making a secret weapon, bit hush hush.

"What are we doing tomorrow?" he asked his Dad.

"Look, okay. I found some canoes under the porch. Okay, you boys want to try canoeing in the bay?"

"Yeah!" they all said.

The next morning was another beautiful, blue skied perfect day. The sun was beaming smiles at them, the sea was calm and peaceful. The three boys ate their breakfast, already in their swimmers, chattering about canoe races they were planning.

"Now, don't forget your sunscreen. Don't get too sunburnt," his mother warned the lads.

"Any chance of you wearing your shirts?" his Daad asked, bit unrealistic.

"Maybe," Cayden replied with a cheeky grin. His mates smiled and gave each other a thumbs up. It was all okay. After breakfast, they sorted who had each canoe. There was red, yellow, and bright blue. Cayden ended up with the blue one. Cool.

Cayden, Cuz and Jaz discovered that there were a few other early swimmers, and some other kids paddling in canoes and kayaks. The three dudes splashed away, to where there was some space for a race. It was a lot deeper here, but there were no large waves.

"Ready, set, go!" Cayden was leading in the race, when Jaz suddenly yelled in fright, "Shark attack! Look out!" Cayden gulped. Instantly a great white pointer shark lifted its giant jaws, then tried to bite his canoe in half!

Cayden did not hesitate. He grabbed his waterproof phone, new inventive design. "Hurry!" he told himself .He clicked on his secret weapon.

"Pow! Bam!" '

"Got ya!" Yes, Cayden had got the shark, right between the eyes. He raised his paddle and whacked the shark on its head.

"Boom!" the shark exploded instantly into a zillion pieces. Shark guts splattered into muck everywhere. Cayden was drenched, but safe. "YUK!"

Cayden heard sudden loud cheering and applause from everyone on the holiday bay, all the swimmers and paddlers.

Cuz paddled over to Cayden asking in his shocked voice, "What was that? Are you sure you're okay?"

"It's my secret weapon."

"Cool, so cool. Man, you blew up a shark, "Jaz said, " I took photos on my phone."

Later that day, Cayden was the local hero. Jaz sent those photos everywhere. Cayden's Dad was astonished when, at 4 pm, the Water Police came cruising along the shore. The captain called all the lifeguards over. There were even photographers from all the newspapers.

Cayden was the centre of an impromptu presentation. He was awarded a special bronze plaque, and his own engraved bravery medal. It was inscribed with his name and date, the very day Cayden had saved all the kids on the holiday bay from the very terrifying Great White Shark.

The holiday makers all gathered around. The teenage girls clapped and said, "You're so cute, Cayden. You're our man!"

His mother felt a bit concerned, he was still only ten years old. Cayden was thrilled, he felt so good that his secret weapon was such a blast. He was not into girls. His dream was to work for undercover espionage. But not today. For once, he was the hero. 'Cayden, for bravery." This was writtten on his gold medal. Cayden went to bed in the beach house, holding his bronze, glowing plaque. He was still wearing his medal, gold. He did tell Cuz and Jaz how scared he had been. he thought for an instant he was the shark's dinner. After that, exhausted, Cayden nodded off to sleep, saying, "Guys, this is my best holiday ever."

Jaz replied sleepily, " Best holiday hero forever!"
