I pulled up to my boyfriends big house, well his parents house. They were away on a couples vacation because their marriage was on the rock and they were trying to “Fix” it. From a divorced household, that doesn’t sound like it will work out.
I stepped out of my Volkswagen Jetta, a gift from my dad he had sent from vacation in Europe. My shoes Click-clacked up the pavement, Chanel bag in hand. I dinged the bell and waited as my boyfriend opened the door with a smile. I kissed him on the cheek and strutted inside.
“Are you ready to get down to business?” He said playfully.
“Of course,” I gave him an excited smile. “Party planning is my specialty.” I slipped off my sparkly pink high heels from my freshly pedicured feet and started getting to work. Stringing streamers across the lights, lamps, and chandeliers. I brought bowls out for snacks and filled them. I knew they would be gone in an hour or so. I hope the late-comers won’t be too hungry.
~2 hours~
passed in the setting up of his house while Dylan, my boyfriend, played games in his bedroom. I knew I shouldn’t be doing the work to set up his party, but I loved setting up parties and I loved him. I would spend hours of my life setting up the perfect party to see his joy filled eyes smiling at the company in his house, especially in a time like this where his parents are struggling.
He finally left his man cave to see bright lights and food.
“Ah, you always do such a good job setting up these parties for me Amber.” He slipped his arm around my waist and pulled me to the couch. He kissed me tenderly. I wanted this to last forever.
The guests are finally starting to arrive. Each with a bright smile on their faces at the dazzling lights. I greeted each person to wander through the door until my best friend, Alyssa, walked in with her elegant purple and pink dress long blond hair.
“Hay bestie!” She shouted and gave me a hug.
“Hey girl! How's it going!” I asked. She pushed a strand of hair behind her ears and smiled.
“You remember that boy I was talking to?” She giggled and blushed.
“Ya, you won't even give me a name. He’s the mystery boy.” I gave her a playful, yet nasty stare.
“Ah, don't look at me like that!” She squealed. I proceeded to give my best neutral face. The guests continued walking in and Dylan's house slowly filled up with dancing and drinking teenagers.
“Well, he asked me to be his girlfriend!!” She jumped up and down gleefully and I copied.
“That's amazing! Is he here now?” I asked excitedly. She has been talking to this “Mystery boy” for a few weeks over social media. He says he goes to our school, but after days of guessing she won’t give me a name.
Uh, No. He says he has practice.” She glanced at something behind me and instantly blushed. I turned to look and Dylan smiled at me or...was that him smiling at Alyssa?
“Stop flirting with my boyfriend,” I said in a stern tone and quickly followed it with, “You’ve got your own!” I laughed. She had a stiff laugh. I’ve always been worried about Alyssa trying to steal Dylan from me, but I know Dylan is loyal and Alyssa is my best friend. They would never do that to me, right?
~2 hours later~
At this point everyone was drunk or on their way to drunk. The disgusting stench of vomit reeked in the living room, so I spent my time in the backyard with a very much drunk Dylan and Alyssa. I don't drink, for I was looking after everyone. Alyssa and Dylan kept giving each other lovey-dovey looks and I'm getting sick and tired of it. I pulled Alyssa to the side.
“Alyssa, you got to stop giving Dylan those-those,” I thought for a correct word. “Flirtatious looks.” I never thought I would ever have to tell her this. I expected some sort of apology, but I was completely and utterly wrong.
“Just…” Her voice trailed off into silence and her head drooped onto her chest.
“Alyssa!” I shouted and her head perked up, like a dog when its owner calls its name.
“Just chill Amber!” she slurred loudly. The difference is this dog talks back with sas.
“Are you kidding me Alyssa?” My voice slightly raised.
“No I'm not! You need to chill!” She screamed and tried to wobble away. I stopped her in her tracks. “Where the hell do you think you're going-” I could barely manage before her drink completely soaked my new dress. I gasped. Everyone watched.
“Oopsies.” She giggled and then burst out laughing as everyone followed. They laughed and pointed at me, even Dylan. I felt like a caged animal being poked and tormented through the bars by who I thought were my loyal owners. She stepped around me and walked up to Dylan as I watched, still in shock as she got on her tippy-toes and pecked him on the lips.
The fire inside me rose into a gleaming glow of red and orange. She may be a feisty dog, but I was the mighty lion. I didn't have to think about what I was going to do and I just did it. I ran to her and screamed at the top of my lungs, “YOU BITCH!” and pushed her into the pool. Her thin as a stick body in the water with a loud SLAP. Dylan behind me was yelling and screaming profanities that I was bothered to listen to. All the guests laughed and Alyssa's blond head came above the surface. She stared at me with hate filled eyes. I knew that the second i stepped into school monday morning rumors about me would fly.
I turned around to Dylan. Adrenaline was pulsing through my veins giving me strength I didn't know that I had. He was still yelling at me, “What the fuck was that Amber!? Jesus Christ!”
I laughed in disbelief. I couldn't believe he was mad at me. “Who the fuck are you to be mad me about pushing Alyssa into the pool, you let her kiss you!” I raised my finger ans was shoving it on his chest. He had finally realized his mistake.
“It was a prank, I swear-” he tried to kiss me, but I pushed him away. Alyssa had gotten out of the pool and was standing next to Dylan. The pool seemed to have woken up from their drunken state.
“It was not a prank,” she slipped her hand around his waist and pulled him close. “Me and Dylan are in love.” she giggled. I scoffed at them both. I held in the tears to seem as strong as possible and not affected by them. They were easily fooled.
“I hope you 2 fucking love birds have a good time while it lasts before one of you does something stupid while I watch.” I shouted to them directly and then turned to the rest of the party who were watching with their phones pulled out. I knew by morning everyone was going to see the videos from multiple people. “I want everyone to know that Dylan is a cheating dick and Alyssa is a backstabbing whore!” I shouted and grabbed the nearest bottle of whiskey and chugged. I threw the bottle at their feet and glass patterned everywhere.
“So much for your fucking mystery boy!” I started walking towards the door and shouted a few more lines while they stared in shock.
“I can't wait until you get what's coming’ for ya! Karma’s a bitch y’know, just like you Alyssa!” I screamed with my back at them and stuck up the finger.
I raced through the house and took the car. Once inside I let the tears overflow. I drove off into the night.
This party took a twisting turn and I felt horrible, 2 years down the drain, but for some reason there was this feeling inside me. It wasn't sadness or emptiness it was a sense of escape. Like I had been finally let free from my cage, yet I still felt broken...but free.
