MARDELIA

The Cordero family is well known for their political influence in the whole region. Imagine the sitting President of the country is a Cordero family member the youngest son of Ricardo Cordero who was a past president. His son Marlon followed his footsteps to enter politics. President Marlon Cordero wanted his son Martin who is a lawyer to meet the daughter of his vice president Warlito Dancel . President Marlon is thinking that if both his family and the vice president will merge together he is feeding his vision about their political life will continue and they will have a stronger influence in holding the political power of their country the Philippines. How long have the Cordero family in power? Maybe five decades, a generation. Looking farther to the next generation President Marlon thought his political power can be handed down to his son Martin but he has to marry so that they can create a political dynasty. If Martin will marry the daughter of Vice President Warlito Dancel there is a possibility that his political ambition will prosper. During his private meeting with Vice President Warlito Dancel he learned that Mardelia is a practicing physican at a large hospital in the city specializing in treating cancer patients. She is a very kind, understanding to her clients and their families. His father being in politics is atuned to her profession to the people in their community. They do not live far from the residence of the president. It was easy to arrange the meeting of Mardelia and Martin. That was during the Christmas holidays on Christmas Eve. Many political allies and incumbents were invited at their well manicured lawn to have a refreshing evening at their outdoor veranda and bar. It is like a casual meeting between the lawyer and the doctor. But they know already where their family belong in the political arena. Martin and Mardelia didn't mention anything about politics but they talk about their interest in sports and entertainment. To know more about each other was the purpose of their going out together which their parents silently agreed and rejoicing in their minds. Their plans of the merging of both families is .likely to happen if time and space allows. Martin is busy with his law practice. He is attending to this case about a farmer against his landlord who wanted to sell the land that he tilled for more than twenty years. Attorney Martin is looking into the possibility that the farmer could get his share with the land but the only obstacle was that he agreed to pay the rent while tilling the land . He lose that part and he must sign the agreement of Deed of Sale to the buyer. The landlord forgave the total amount that he have to pay to him. It is a settlement between the two to close the case. Martin feel sorry for the farmer but not that much because the farmer didn't pay his dues instead he built his house and bought his truck. Martin is thinking about the landlord if he could build his house and truck with the sale of the land. Agrarian reform is something that must be look into if it really benefited the farmers or not. Martin have other cases about the plight of lanorers. When the minimum wage was raised prices of essential commodities went up. People felt being pickpocketed. This is where the promises of politicians clashed with the people who voted them. Feeling cheated but can't do anything. Martin keep silent when he hears what the people say , how the government is being run. He seem to closed his ears and shut his mouth knowing that his parent is a politician. Will he join his father or not? Martin has not decided yet although his parents are grooming him to run for the coming election. Martin and Mardelia talk about it one time and what they thought to each other politics is not a dirty game as long as the politicians has good intentions.. Their professions are both serving the public sector. They didn't see any problem about their families plan. They would be willing to serve the people. The president and the vice president agreed to hold a party to announce the engagement of Martin and Mardelia since they are already at the right age and both are financially stable. During the party Mardelia told Martin that she wanted to get a special course about caring terminally ill patients. Who knows they may be able to expand the services at their hospital.. She will take the course in Europe and this will take a year or two. Martin has no power or authority to prevent Mardelia. Besides they haven't set any wedding date. Their parents didn't object about their plan. Mardelia went to Switzerland and met a few physicians to take the same course. Mardelia met Dr. Irineo Cuenca a Spanish doctor who happened to have visited the Philippines and he is very excited to meet Dr. Mardelia Cordero. He said to Mardelia that he likes her country having roots from Spain his home country. They both click with =each other about their food and going out for relaxation. It didn't come to Mardelia at all that he would fall in love with Irineo since Martin didn't attempt to visit her at all in Switzerland. Dr. Mardella focus on what she has to do after finishing the course whether to stay in Switzerland with Irineo and practice at the same hospital where he is. She didn;t go home after she finished her course. Instead she went with Irineo to Spain to meet his family and go back to Switzerland after their wedding. When President Marlon and Vice President Warlito met privately hearing that Mardelia will not be coming back home but stay in Switzerland they congratulated the couple and told them that Fate has united them together and that it is blessed by God. Chances are it may take another generation to merge families of their political ambitions.
