TSAU: Close and Far

I regret all decisions made up until this point.

One thing that I should mention is that I hate running. Like, a lot of running.

And that’s just what we need to do.

“CAN WE SLOW DOWN?”

“You can’t slow down when you have to save someone!”

I groan, my legs already hurting.

“Gee, for someone with magic powers you seem to have more stamina!”

“I have no clue how you managed to rap all that!”

I stifle a laugh.

“Seriously though, can we take a break?”

She sighs.

In the condition that we’re in now, running pretty fast and the air breezing past us, I almost don’t hear her words.

“You know, I’m only this energetic because I need to save my friend.”

I screech to a halt.

“C-can you tell me more?”

She stops too, and faces me.

“Ah.”

“Ya don’t have to.”

I shrug.

“No, I was just..thinking. It would’ve come to this anyway.”

She brushes her hair out of the way.

“We were friends. Very good friends. We used to play a game. He called it Shadow-and-Seek. I was always the seeker, because we would go in a dark room and he would wrap himself in shadows. It was his power, you know. I would run around the room, trying to find the solid part, and when I bumped into him, we would both laugh, and he would help me up. And then repeat.”

She smiled slightly, remembering this.

“What happened, then?”

She tenses at this.

I wince. Dealing with drama is not my thing.

“Well, long story...kinda short, he craved more power. One day, someone...I don’t know who, came to him with the offer. I’m guessing it was too good for him, and he accepted.”

She took a deep breath.

“I know he isn’t evil. I just know.”

Dang, this Grace sure has gone through some crap.

“So that’s why we’re going to save him?”

“Exactly.”

This just got a whole lot more interesting.

I sit down at the table, ignoring the shocked looks.

What’d you expect, a birthday cake?

AS IF!

“Oi, What’s with the staring?”

They all eyed me. Typical, ain’t it.

“Why are you sitting here? Aren’t you a rookie, eh?”

I laugh.

“Me, a rookie? Speak for yourself.”

The one who told me off flushed angry red.

“We are sitting here because we deserve it, girl. Run off to the farm you came from.”

“Excuse me?”

I glare daggers at him.

“I’m a demon. A very capable one.”

“Oooooh, I’m SOOOO scared.”

“Yeah, I’m shaking in fEaR.”

Another one of the boys at the table snorts.

“I bet you wouldn’t last five minutes in a real battle.”

“Want to find out?”

I angrily shout at him.

He cracks his knuckles.

“Name’s Trace, loser. And I’ll beat you into the ground!”

Regaining my composure, I smirk.

My sister has taught me a few things, even though she’s an angel. A fire angel, but whatever. She did give me my weapon.

I wonder if she would be mad at me now.

Trace has a stereotypical bad guy look, with the dyed neo blue hair, the cut pants, the leather jacket. And by the way he’s laughing right now, he doesn’t think I can beat him.

“Come at me, little ms. Sweetie!”

Slowly, a sword forms on my hands. It has dark blue sapphires on it, with delicate carvings and a silver blade. Quite the opposite of my sister’s sword.

He rushes at me with his fists on fire, what a great tactic.

I sweep his legs and he falls to the floor.

I then hit him with the flat side of my sword. I’m not that mean, even though I am on the evil side.

He makes a rather weird sound.

I cackle in glee- this is the third time I’ve bested someone, boy or girl.

“There! That’ll teach you.”

As I sit down again, I notice a boy from the table with white and blue hair staring at me.

He’s the only one that didn’t make fun of me.

I don’t want to break the only sibling tie I have left.

Lya

A cute girl joined us today.

She said her name is Lilith, and that she won’t be much help and she can’t kill the good people but she’ll try her best to do anything else.

That sounds a lot like me, to be honest. When I first joined, I told the leader that I can’t help them lessen the numbers of the Light but I am good at interrogations.

I’m surprised Dragon accepted her into the team, but also glad. She seems very strong. And the fact that she’s very pretty.

“LYARI! WE NEED YOU FOR ANOTHER STUPID ONE THAT WON’T TALK!”

“OKAY, I’m COMING! GEEZ!”

Ugh, not a moment’s rest.

I run to where Prism is waiting. Galen is busy trying to weasel something out the good one, but they won’t talk.

“Alright boys, outta the way.”

Galen nods.

I bend down to where the victim is lying.

“So you won’t talk, huh?”

The person- a girl, shakes her head.

“I will keep the secrets until I die!”

“Pfft, not likely here.”

“Wh-what do you mean?”

I didn’t answer. My mind was already breaking the weak defenses on her brain, worming into her memories.

She screamed and Galen clapped his hand over her mouth.

“Shut up if you know what’s good for you.”

“What are we looking for?”

“Just a code.”

I looked for a few seconds, then found it easily.

“Alright, found it.”

Prism barely gave a nod.

“What’s it?”

“Nine-zero-nine-seven-three-five-two-zero.”

The prisoner gave a muffled wail.

Galen forcefully pushed her head forward.

She gasped and then fainted.

Prism half smiled.

“Alright, we got it.”

Then he left the room.

Galen slightly shook his head at me then exited too.

I sighed. Boys. Enough said.

Leaving the unconscious girl there, I departed from the room.

Maybe I’ll get to chat with Lilith.

You can’t run. You definitely can’t hide.
