“I don’t understand.”

“Me neither.”

“What’s going on now?”

“I don’t know.”

“That’s dumb, why?”

“I don’t know.”

“You never know these things.”

“How am I supposed to know if you don’t know either?”

“I don’t know, you should know!”

“Stop it already! I’ve had enough of you and not knowing.”

“Fine, whatever. We should look in the other room.”

“We already looked in there.”

“Well, maybe we should look again. It might be better this time.”

“I doubt it.”

“See what?”

“This is the other room.”

“Yes, I know it’s the other room but it’s the same as the last room.”

“No, it’s not, it’s a completely different room.”

“I liked the other room better.”

“No, you don’t. You just don’t like this room because of the wallpaper.”

“It’s gross! Look at it!”

“Hehe, yeah it’s pretty bad, isn’t it?”

“What color is that even supposed to be?”

“Like vomit green.”

“Ugh, vomit isn’t supposed to be green.”

“No, but if vomit were green it’d be that kind of green.”

“Hahaha. Hey, speaking of green, should we try outside again?”

“Outside? Isn’t it cold outside?”

“It’s cold everywhere here. But it might be green this time.”

“I’d like it if it was green outside.”

“Fingers crossed.”

“Oh! Look!”

“What is that?”

“It’s a dear! It’s grassing on that bush, look at him!”

“He’s gorgeous, look at those antlers. They call those bucks, right?”

“I think so. Wow, he’s so pretty. I’ve never seen one so close to the house before.”

“I love when the dear come to say hello.”

“Should we go back inside?”

“Just a few more minutes, I wanna watch him.”

“I just want to say hi.”

“Careful, don’t reach your hand out like that, you’ll scare him away!”

“No I won’t, not if I’m really, really still. See? He’s coming closer.”

“He probably thinks we have food.”

“Look! Look! He’s coming to say hello! C’mere buddy. Hi!”

“Please be careful!”

“I will! Look, he’s just saying hi. Hello friend! How are you!”

“Oh my god, is this really happening right now?”

“Oh, he’s so sweet.”

“He’s terrifying.”

“He’s a friend. Look.”

“I’m looking.”

“Uh, What’s wrong buddy? Something out there?”

“What’s he doing?”

“I think he heard something out in the woods. Okay, goodbye now friend.”

“Oh my god. Did that really just happen?”

“Holy shit it really did.”

“There he goes.”

“He just wanted to say hi.”

“That’s never happened before, right?”

“I’m pretty sure.”

“I can’t remember anymore.”

“Yeah. Should we go back inside?”

“I don’t know. I like it out here, it’s quieter. Inside just feels so busy.”

“Everything feels fuzzy.”

“Yeah, fuzzy.”

“I like it out here. My thoughts are still cloudy but it’s easier to think.”

“Yeah, but we can’t stay outside forever.”

“Why not?”

“We’d never get anything done.”

“We don’t get anything done inside.”

“But shouldn’t we at least try?”

“Try what? I don’t even understand what we’re doing here.”

“We died, remember?”

“We gotta find a way out of here.”

“Do we?”

“Of course we do, there’s gotta be more than just, this.”

“Does there?”

“Stop it.”

“Stop this attitude all of a sudden, you’re bringing us down!”

“You’re the one that mentioned our death.”

“Yeah, but I was being realistic. You’re just making things harder for us.”

“What? I’m the one trying to be realistic. I mean, think about it, what if this is it? We’ve searched everywhere for something, anything to help us out of here but there’s nothing! Nothing! Maybe this is it, maybe this is what death is!”

“You know that’s not true!”

“Oh, do I!? What makes you think you know everything, huh!? You don’t know shit! You’re just a dumb little farm girl who was stupid enough to get herself killed!”

“Dumb!? I’m the dumb one!? You’re the one that got us killed in the first place! If you had just listened, if you had just tried, maybe, just maybe things would be different! But no! We followed you! We always followed you! Well, look where you got us! You got us killed!”

“Stop it!”

“No! Fuck you! You deserve this! You deserve to suffer like this!”

“Stop it, you’re hurting me!”

“Oh shut up! I’m not hurting you! You’re already dead!”

“Knock it off!”

“No! I won’t knock it off, y’know why? Because he was right!”

“Yes he was, and you know it! You know, deep down, he was right all along. You deserve this! You asked for it! You chose him! You married him! You chose this life, you chose this death!”

“Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!”

“Quit your crying, it’s too late to cry now! You’re already dead! No one will hear you, no one will help you! You’re all alone!”

“Please, please, stop it.”

“Why? So you can crawl back into your little hidey-hole and never come out again? So you can feel sorry for yourself?”

“You like feeling sorry for yourself, don’t you?”

“No. I don’t.”

“I think you do.”

“No! I don’t like feeling sorry for myself!”

“I don’t believe you.”

“What? Wh- why not?”

“Because you haven’t done anything to prove to me you don’t.”

“But...But we look every day! You make me look for something, every day. We’re always looking for something, anything!”

“And yet you still haven’t found anything! Do you have any idea how long it’s been!”

“ you?”

“Too long! We’ve been dead for too long not to have found something!”

“That’s not my fault!”

“Who else is there! There’s no one else keeping you from moving on! He’s gone. They took him away along with our body long ago and yet you still hold on to this rotting hell hole you call a house!”

“It’s our home! We made this a home!”

“Look at it! It’s falling apart! Just like you!”

“Stop yelling at me!”

“...Did you hear that?”

“What was that?”

“It sounded like the front door.”

“It’s a dear! It’s grassing on that bush, look at him!” Deer not dear Grazing not grassing Also, it seemed to be lacking a sense of direction, but alas we are all learning.

Yeah, the idea was that it was directionless. It's sort of an exercise from a bigger story I'm working on. I was trying to convey a sense of limbo because it's a conversation a ghost is having with herself.

Ooh, great last line. I love your dialogue, very naturally conversational (or argumentative in the case of tone). I was a little confused as to who the two ghosts were to one another, but recognize that wasn't the point of the story. The only critique I have is you used 'dear' when you meant "deer." Great story for your first submission.
