LAST DROP

Summer vacation will be start five days from now on. Pauline is excited for the summer because this is the only month that she can spend her time with her beloved Scott. Scott is from the province of La Union. Scott is a man with principle and he is discipline well and Pauline is a party goer person, however when he met Scott 5 years before summer, she changed into well prim and proper lady. Their love story is admirable and everyone’s envious of it but one day everything changed.

“Pau, let’s go” her mother shouted and Pau ran as fast as she could and when she arrived at their van, she immediately sits at the back and open her social media account. She immediately posts her whereabouts and contacted Scott. However, Scott is not answering his phone. Pau ignore it and call him again but there is still no answering the call. She called him many times until she suddenly feels nervous and uncomfortable. “Mom! Scott is not answering his phone” she said to her mother. Her mother shakes her head only and said, “Don’t worry too much, maybe he forgot his phone in his room just like last summer. You know it honey, every summer his family and him is busy entertaining the tourists. So, chill and sleep for now, I’ll wake you up when we got their” Pauline is still uncomfortable however she did what her mother told her. After eight hours, they arrived in La Union. Pauline immediately got out and run towards the house of Scott. However, there is no one in there.

Pauline immediately called Scott again but he is not answering. She’s about to cry when her mother approach her and hug her tight. One of the neighbors of Scott saw them and he bravely approach them. “Madam, Scott and his family is at the hospital right now” he said. Pauline immediately wiped her tears and face him. “Hmm, what happened? Who was hospitalized?” she asks nervously. “Its Scott madam, it’s been two weeks” he answered. Pauline knees turns into jelly and her tears suddenly runs into her face. “What hospital is it?” her mother asks. “RHU, madam” he said. “Thank you” after that, he walked away. While Pauline is still on the ground crying. “Honey, let’s go visit him” her mother said. She’s still sobbing when they are travelling.

When they arrived at the hospital, Pauline immediately goes to information desk and ask the nurse about the room of Scott. “Room 301” the burse said. Pauline run as fast as she could and she didn’t care about those people who are stopping her from running. When she’s at the alley of the room 301, Scott’s mother saw her. Scott’s mother stands up abruptly and her eyes are teary. Pauline walks slowly and when she’s in front of Scott’s mother, they both cried. Scott’s mother hug her tightly while whispering “I’m sorry, Scott don’t want to let you know about his condition” Pauline cried so hard and the passersby are looking at them with pity in their eyes “Scott’s very excited to see you this summer but his condition become worst. He’s always calling your name when he’s sleeping. He really wants to see you” Scott’s mother said to her. Pauline’s mother saw them and she immediately knows what is happening. She walks fast and hug them. “Come on, get up and let’s see him” her mother whispers.

Pauline entered the room while relaxing her breathe. When she saw him lying in the bed, her tears flow in her face again unstoppable. She immediately holds his hand and kiss him in his forehead. Scott wakes up because he feels that someone is caressing his face and when he opens his eyes, he suddenly smiles. “Hey” he said. “Hey! Good Morning” Pauline replied with smile and tears in her eyes. “How are you feeling?” she asked him “I feel nothing but I am glad to see you” he replied. Pauline did not stop herself she hugs him and start to cry again. “I’m sorry, I did not tell you” Scott whispered in her ears. “It’s okay” she replied and wipe her tears and his tears. she holds his hands while staring at him with full of concern in her eyes. “I love you” he said suddenly and it made her cry again. “I love you too” she replied and lowered her head. “Please, stop crying” he said lowly. “Okay, rest up. I’ll be here when you wake up” she replied. “Okay” he said and hold her hand tightly and he sleep again.

When Scott is already asleep, Scott’s mother and her mother entered the room. The room filled with silence. After some minutes, Scott’s mother started to sob. Pauline and her mother immediately approach and hug her tightly while stopping their-selves to cry also. When Scott’s mother calmed down, she started talking “It was last month when his head started throbbing and he said it is just simple headache. I told him to visit a doctor for a check-up but he doesn’t want too. Until one day he lost consciousness and we learned that he has brain tumor and last week the doctor said it’s already stage 4” after hearing it. Pauline and her mother tears flowed into their face. They are all crying when the machine that supporting Scott make a sound. They immediately approach Scott while Pauline Mother’s press the button in the wall. Nurses and Doctor immediately approach Scott and the nurses made them stay away from him. They are all hysterically crying. At the door they are watching Scott fighting for his life and they silently praying for his survival. After 10 minutes, Scott condition turns to normal again. The doctor approach them and said “I’m sorry, I’m afraid he won’t last long anymore” Shocked is visibly written in their faces. Pauline immediately grabbed the arm of the Doctor and beg “Please, do everything. Please! Save him” he pleaded but the doctor shakes head and said “I’m sorry” and walked away. Pauline is still collecting her thoughts when she heard Scott’s voice. He is calling her. she immediately entered the room and entertain him. “What is it?” she asked calmly. “I want to see the sunset now” he whispered. Pauline stiffened and she immediately knows what is happening. She stopped herself crying and relied to him “Alright, let me prepare the paper first” she stared at him and smiled painfully. “Mom, Scott’s wants to see the sunset now. Please prepare the papers” she said lowly. Scott’s mother and her mother picked it up immediately. “Stay here” her mother whispered to Scott’s mother. Pauline’s mother prepared the papers and after some time, everything is set.

They travelled back into the house of Scott and when they arrived, they immediately go to the beach. They set everything there. They are all present, even the neighbors. Scott and Pauline sat at the center and waited for the sunset. They are all quiet but when they heard a little sob, they all stop their selves from crying. Pauline hug Scotts tightly and Scott hold her hand tightly. “I’m blessed that I met you. I love you so much but I need to go. Please look after my mother. Please take good care of yourself. I love you very much” Scott whispered to her lowly and he cried. Everyone heard the sobs of Pauline and they sympathize her. “I love you too” she replied to him. “I love you very muc—” before he could finish what he is saying, he closed his eyes and his hand holding Pauline gave up and the sun set exactly when he stops breathing. Pauline cried loudly and everyone did not stop their selves to cry too. Pauline hugs Scott tightly. The last drop of the voice and breath of his beloved is exactly from the setting of the sun.
