Waiting for Someone to Come

Written in response to: "Write a story from the POV of someone waiting to be rescued."

Adventure Inspirational Mystery

"To wake up one morning, not knowing what will take place or happen, like the weatherman says it will be all day clear skies and the rain comes pouring down."

"You look out for all the things that will make you either change your mind and go back, or you will continue on in the same direction that you were heading, knowing this may turn out worse than originally considered."

"You are seeking approval for that which you start and complete, never sure what those around you, who either stop to admire your work, or the ones who notice yet are not sure how to respond to your work at all."

"It seems this was the case, when after leaving my house at the usual time, around 5 a.m., to get to work before the place of business became busy with deliveries and customers, oh the customers can be a handful." "Don't get me started on the shoplifters caught in the act of stealing or attempting to steal."

"Remember that this time of year, being the holidays between Thanksgiving and Christmas, are the times when most feel the need to lift a few pairs of socks or underclothes." "Or there is a shortage of batteries that had just been restocked two days ago."

"It can be more a headache than originally thought to be." "Where does it say in the hiring manual about doing more than the job you were hired for, and about all the extra duties you are needing to fulfill, since the job is not willing to pay extra for more security?" "Especially around the holidays."

"It makes life harder to handle and more complicated, especially when you are riding out the storm while the upper management bullies are visiting the very store you work at, on a day that is not your best day, with a splitting headache including muscle spasms, to boot."

"The reason I am sharing this with you is because I am trapped in the rear of the warehouse that is part of the business I am employed with." "As if things could not get any worse, first there is a small fire over by the offices, that was after the earthquake that caused the support beams to shake loose." "I know I along with several other people are trapped in the building, because I can hear faint screams and shouting."

"Oh yes, forgot to share with you about the ruptured gas lines and from where I am at, there is a large enough hole in the wall, showing me, some power lines are damaged or are possibly down."

"Like I said, I didn't think things could get any worse than they are at present." "I know I sound like I am angry or mad about this." "Truth is, I am not either, just concerned about those with whom are my co-workers and yes even the bigwigs that came down from corporate too."

"I was over in this area, looking for a forklift, that had not been parked in the designated area, marked for that." "I feel uneasy because of all the many things happening all at once, which makes my life so small compared to anything else." "I want to be able to stick around, to work here, but this is leaving me with a blank thought of how to answer that without seriously considering walking away."

"I know you are wondering, "How does one think about work or anything involving work, at a time like this?" "I too have wondered that very same thing." "I suppose I can find an answer but the more pressing issues at hand are, will I live to tell or die trying to live?"

"I am aware of the helicopters flying over the area, and the shouts of people inside the building and outside also." "I am sure that, even with no lights or lighting of any kind in this part of the warehouse, just complete darkness, that I can only imagine how a blind person may feel, even a little bit."

"I am not able to cope with this, completely anxious or feeling panic as the idea of being crushed to death, have crossed my mind, more than one time." "I struggle with finding my phone, not sure if it is on me or not." "I finally find my phone that is very deep in my pocket, but is hard to retrieve, for it is with fear building, that I feel some steel object both on my left leg and some possibly sticking into my leg as well."

"My phone is not accessible as the object blocks my being able to grab hold of it." "I then turn my sights on the idea of how bad the damage is?" "Will I make it out of here, alive?" "While I am waiting to be rescued, will they get to me in time?"

"Of course, this is just for starters." "Many thoughts have gone through my head, even with the headache and the throbbing pain in my neck, shoulders, and mainly in my back." "I am not sure how to react, as this is my first time experiencing this."

"The daylight I had seen before, that showed me some powerlines either damaged or down, is growing dimmer as the day turns into evening then night." "The growing fear of being in the darkness alone, is becoming more terrifying." "I am unsure what to do, trying to think of anything that would divert my thoughts and my attention away from the scene that is before me, surely not a pretty sight."

"I begin to sweat, as the air becomes chill with the sun going down and the night is filled with a silence that is deafening." "I am not feeling well, and I am trying to fall asleep." "My mind shouts or yells at me to stay awake, the voices are singing me a lullaby to make me want to go to sleep." "I am afraid that if I go to sleep, I will never wake up, at least not in the here and now."
