Jonah Star had been dreaming of playing lead for Les Miserable and now her time had come, though it was only High School it meant the world to Jonah.
This was going to be the best and worst day of a brand new beginning.
Production started at 7:00 p.m. The only prop Jonah was concerned with was an old London Fog grandpa had given her. It was 5:00 p.m. Jonah felt a wrenching in her stomach, "Where is the coat" she thought frantically to herself. "Mom it's after 5:00 and I can't find grandpa's coat". Mom had sent the coat to the resale shop. Jonah knew she had to have that gift from grandpa back you see stage 4 cancer had given him 4 weeks and this soon would be all Jonah Star would have to hold her.
The production had begun
7:00 came.so quickly. Ms.Banister the director rushed to Jonah's side with the news Grandpa was expiring and Mom was with him. Jonah Stars heart dashed as she pulled The grandpa's coat around her.
The curtain opened. As Jonah Star opened her mouth to sing the cracking of her voice set the audience on their seats edge emotionally caught up. Then at the final stanza her pocket began to chime.
Grandpa's pocket watch. Jonah Star knew Grandpa was gone. The tears ran like waves and the audience roared in thunderous applause. Captured.
From here Jonah Star would be the first dark skinned young woman to win the heart of Broadway's production as the lead performance for
Les Miserable. As Grandpa's time was up; it was her time.
